Quick Update & More Brainstorming Needed!

Greetings fellow #Hivers,

here is a quick update from the Proof of Subscription Initivate I started a few days ago and also a crowd-brainstorming initiative (with upvote incentives) further down below.

100+ Subscriptions

Within 3 days, we've gained over 100 subscriptions on our Youtube Channel. From 198 to 307, as the writing of this post. Pretty amazing if you ask me!

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwM89V7NzVIHizgWT3GxhwA

Reminder: You can find all of the "official" social media profiles for Hive on hive.io

Now, I've read pretty much all of the comments and quite often there was some critique about the content which is currently being hosted or the way it's displayed (thumbnails, etc.), which I can relate to and understand. There were also questions who is managing the channel, has access to it, etc.

AFAIK, most of the Youtube related work is currently being done by @crimsonclad, since she is also streaming the AMAs (props to her! 👏). I've made some suggestions to improve the title, tags, meta, etc, which she is so kind to implement in the coming days.

Besides that, we obviously need more content on there; not everyone is a dev. (those meetings are being uploaded by @howo I think)

So, the obvious question is...

What kind of content would you like to see on there?

Personally, I think we need at least some kind of show on there (could be weekly/biweekly) which describes within 5 to 10 minutes what's been happening on Hive, what's been discussed in the devs-meeting so non-devs understand it, etc.

Comment below and I'll upvote great ideas/suggestions.

Sort:

How about asking each Dapp owners, to prepare some videos and share that with some real data ? It will benefit them as well as the echo system. We can even think of some list of points that they should cover like how they find out hive, why they were interested to build on hive, what challenges they faced, what benefits they got etc.

Would be more efficient to create a weekly show and include interviews with these people, rather than those people creating content from scratch.

That makes sense.

Great idea!

The different HIVE projects & games should Host shows and the HIVE channel can co-platform them. Nothing else is as representative as that.

It would make sense to add the HIVE CI or to wrap content before uploading. The reverse D.Tube Model would make sense, first on HIVE then spread to Big Tech.

What's really missing an archive of free, searchable and HQ/HD Video/Photo Stock. That's what any Content Creator needs as a first step. I really want to stress this:

  • free
  • searchable
  • HQ/HD
    => Graphics /Photos /Clips /Sound as Stock for download

That will enable fast Content creation for professional and semi-professional Hive branded Content.

Some might now think, well all HIVE is full of HIVE Branded Content. Well yeah... but it does not speak the same language.

They use to say,
'Only the Devil speaks in 1000 Tongues.'

But it's true. People need to see, read, hear... the same - exactly the same Identity, again and again, in order to build up trust.

Some folks on Hive started up a local stock images service. More info can be found by going down this rabbit hole.

Ahh nice!

I haven't actually been "in charge" of the YouTube, but I appreciate the shout out~ I've coordinated all our AMAs and created all the streaming overlays and assets and been the one to mediate and facilitate getting them hooked up to YouTube and other streaming media. There's a lot going on but I'm volunteering to get in there and really clean up a lot of what we have and make it more attractive etc. from now and going forward when I have some time this week. I'm also volunteering to create some new streaming assets for the dev meetings and wake up early (they are usually well before my day starts so it has been harder for me to make them for the last while) to handle the streaming of them to multiple platforms at the time they happen so the people uploading recordings now don't have to have so much on their plates.

I agree, some kind of weekly news broadcast of sorts, but how much money is in the production budget? Are we going for something entertainingly informative or mundanely informative? Equipment, research, scripts, a studio if it's live, art if it's animated, time. These things do not come cheap.

Whoever is uploading those meetings needs to cut out all the instances of dead air moving forward. On several occasions I've tuned in only to be met with confusing silence. That part can be recorded but doesn't need to be included in the public offering.

Yea, It would be great to see weekly news updates including major developments and projects. Like we have daily news on news channels.

Interviews, a weekly or bi weekly show would be nice where they can take questions from livechat etc. Really anything TBH, content is content and people just wanna hear what's cooking, and we can serve it to them in a variety of different formats. I like what Ark is doing, everyone on Hive knows about Ark now because of how they went about reaching out to us. Hive could ask other project leaders to come on the show and talk shop which will bring in more eyes from outside Hive.

I've been doing almost all of this for the better part of 4 years now, but it's been difficult to get signal boosted. I'm pretty passionate about live Q&As and teaching people in a fun show/video setting, but because I often have so much on the go, if I don't write up a huge post about it (even though the end goal is live streams and interactive shows), people inside the ecosystem really don't seem to care, so that's been an interesting dilemma to try to surmount.

I wanted to upvote your latest video (crypto Macro) with 200%. This is impossible.
So instead - I've found this comment ^^^ from you, @theycallmedan, so I can leave my other 100 here

I believe the masses wanted to see who the personalities of Hive. The Faces of this network. Interviews and testimonials would be a great approach.

IMO, a good theme could be...

"How Hive Impacted my Life"

Something like that ;)

Tutorials tutorials tutorials and tutorials.

Every new person that joins hive has a thousand questions. There are always posts and FAQs explaining stuff but a video is 1000 times better.

If it's on the "official" channel it is a million times better.

So please tutorials, for every app, and every possible action. Some important topics.

  • how to create an account.
  • how to post/comment/upvote and join communities.
  • how to create a community and all the options you can choose in terms of moderation etc
  • which wallet to use and how to download them.
  • hive keychain vs hive signer
  • What are HBDs
  • Hive power, how does it work
  • DHF, what it is
  • Witness voting and proposal voting
  • different passwords and keys
  • Choosing a recovery account and what to do if hacked

There are a lot of topics and obviously some videos can cover many of them at once, but the important thing is to have SHORT and SIMPLE videos covering topics separately. This would make it easy for new guys to watch a topic when they need it, without over complicating trying to explain everything.

Great totally agree with you

I think it would be great to have a polished training series with all the info you need to get the best of Hive. I remember when I started out I found it very difficult to find how to videos.
I am not sure if these things are now available from other Youtubers but if they are could they be added to the channel?

The only issue with a polished training series is spending money on something that might be outdated/obsolete within months.

I agree with a weekly news broadcast of sorts and in that could be an included short teaching segment.

This is something that I've found challenging for sure in our space. I've been doing a live Q&A information show every week for the better part of 4 years now, both on Steem and then on Hive. I'm incredibly proud of the show itself, the teaching I've done, and the impact I've had even though it doesn't get the attention of a lot of people around the chain- but if you go thru the historical replays, man, most of them become obsolete pretty quickly, which is why I never uploaded them to chain video services after the fact. I would need to hire a full time editor to really try to slice and dice many of them, and unfortunately I can't afford that in time or costs at the moment. It's a tricky thing, for sure.

The first thing I mentioned while sprinkling a few scattered thoughts around this area was cost. Then efficiency. Maintaining interest requires entertainment value of some kind mixed in with the hard facts, especially when a portion of the targeted audience is intended for an outside audience. There's the scripted approach, then there's the live podcast style approach. Gotta decide. Get a team together, do all the work; then the part about:

it doesn't get the attention of a lot of people around the chain

... which is a huge problem for I'd say majority of the projects around here, so that would need to be addressed for this instance. I rambled on about that issue inside this rabbit hole, throughout the post and comments. A proper news style broadcast with a proper budget would benefit from simple push button access, highly visible in the common area UI most frequent, so this takes an army all on the same page.

On the bright side there's enough capable people around to pull off some stunning material consistently.

Ay-ay-ay they want brainstorming and my head explodes.

Oh! And there's the part about how shining examples double as marketing. Pick a good episode, put some money behind it, convert it into an advertisement, have that shit spreading all over Youtube. Even if they ban crypto ads there's a loophole by simply not mentioning crypto since we're more than just crypto anyway. More bang for the buck there.

I have to admit that I have never fully watched your shows, but from what I have seen in the bits I did watch, you're doing a really great job!

Now the question is, whether those 2-3 hour long shows are the right format to 1.) attract people who are not yet familiar with Hive and want to know more about it or 2.) those who are familiar with it but want to stay up-2-date.

I would need to hire a full time editor to really try to slice and dice many of them, and unfortunately I can't afford that in time or costs at the moment. It's a tricky thing, for sure.

I don't think that's a problem. We can use the DHF to cover your & the editor's costs. The question would be whether we have 1 or more editors with enough experience for high-quality work on Hive?

Hi Crimsonclad, I have fallen upon some of you Videos here and there and love your style. Are you posting to Youtube and if so What is your channel?
I have said in another comment that maybe some sort of WIKI may be needed where Short form video tutorials could be swapped out when needed. As for the videos, I think short infographic style with a narration could work.

holy cow, I somehow completely overlooked this comment and I apologize profusely for leaving it hanging. Yes, I do stream my shows to Youtube at this link. I haven't actually shared that on the chain before but my goals for the new year are to do a bit more personal promotion as part of actually helping the hive ecosystem as a whole.

Yoooooo...just watched your talk at hivefest. best one so far, I had no idea how much excitement NFT showroom was generating. Chipping into the ETH ecosystem is great for us, and artists and their audiences are what I want to see more of, and no reason for anyone to choose between Hive and ETH, they can do both. You would make a great PR voice for the greater HIVE, you are really good at getting the good points across @crimsonclad . My buddy @vincentnijman 's been excited about his NFTs recently, I'll go check out the platform on my New year holiday :-D

where can I find this talk @whatamidoing ? You piqued my curiosity and I am - of course - looking forward to your entry into NFT :<)

Thank you! Unfortunately I had to wing my presentation, but I actually do often do weekly talks about Hive on my livestream (depending on where the day's topic's take us) and am often the one who ends up handling our volunteer community AMAs.

Let me know what you think about NFTSR and thank you for the compliment. I'm very passionate about our ecosystem and how it can be used by anyone who's already in or out of crypto to power the things they want to share <3 If you have feedback about the site, I'd be glad to hear it, as I'm always working on improving the UI~

Thanks for that nad don't worry about delay. I've subscribed and hope to listen in during my workday. I Have not heard your Hivefest speech yet but hope to track that down also.
!ENGAGE15

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

If the HIVE fund will continue maybe this could be a good investment for it. I always feel a bit sad that I have to leave Hive to get the information I need. What I would really like is a section on the homepage with a direct link to all the tutorials needed.
I get what you are saying about things becoming outdated but maybe if they were in the form of a WIKI then they can be swapped out for new ones when needed.

Tutorials in written form that can be updated easily would be the most cost effective method of delivering that material. Weekly updates in video format pointing people to new developments like updated tutorials would be a fine way of pointing folks in the right direction.

Would be interesting to see an official source, paid for by the official source.

Yes! 100% agree. Tutorials is the most important thing, I have outlined some important topic in my comment please add other topics if I have missed something.

Thanks for your reply. After reading through the other replies I can understand the concerns of maybe thing going out of date. Maybe some sort of video WIKI that can be updated with the most timely info could work.

And I want to add, in my opinion, it was/is/will be the worst possible idea to tell people they shall join HIVE in order to earn money. That's a wild card statement for sell all your HIVE, always and immediately.

Come to HIVE to own your content, to stand up for a free world of self government and to have a Homebase in case the big censorship hammer falls on your big tech accounts.

Good afternoon. We need a large number of smart and talented people on Hive, only this metric will increase the credibility and value of the site. And for this you need to learn to appreciate people, a lot of my friends have left this resource. They were good artists and photographers, in a word, a talented creative intelligentsia. This is my independent opinion, maybe I'm wrong. Thank you for the interesting post. I wish you success.

I understand.

The problem is that talented people more than anything want attention, which Steemit hasn't given them and so far also not Hive.Blog or other social platforms on Hive - Peakd, Ecency, etc. (I'm planning on changing that).

Now, what Hive has is a direct monetisation layer without ads. However, many people aren't earning anything, some are earning a few dollars or a bit more but even that isn't enough as an incentive if readers/watchers/listeners are missing.

Thank you for your comment. Have a nice evening and all the best to you.

Good show. Recognizing the lack of dedicated consumers as a main concern. That's something I've been on about for years. Always onboarding talent but insisting the seats remain empty.

Things are looking up!

I agree to a very high degree. Let me add this, Discord & Co are killing HIVE for years now. All engagement has been off-chain, that's terrible! People are great, create nice content then go to discord and wait for feedback, that's NUTS!

You want free Marketing, go mirror some 'Public Discussions' from Discord back to HIVE to showcase the level of engagement inherent in this community.

Thank you very much for responding to my comment. My idea is firm - only good and smart people can change something in any business project. People will leave, and any project will also leave. Thank you again for your attention. Have a good evening.

Public opinion leaders have to emerge, they can't be voted for. We should create an environment that doesn't alienate them as in the past.

Yeah it's brutal that everyone is on discord. It's a pet peeve of mine that so much goes on there instead of on chain or in a product of ours. I've suggested an application like it utilizing the memo key, but I don't know how that would work.

Engagement is the gold nugget of the web.

Smaller Artists get 100s and 1000s of comments on the Big Tech Platform. When they just take a glance at HIVE and it's visible low engagement, they run off as fast as they can.

Exactly! Even the so called influencers are earning way below $100 and <100 comments. If we compare this to mainstream social media apps, these numbers only represent less than 1%.

Not the kind of analytics that we can show off.

We need more users and more engagement to attract attention outside of this network.

Which one of them comes first?

I also would suggest more how-to videos and basic info on how the blockchain works on hive. Also have showcase videos where you show the different apps that are available.

100%

I have made a comment with some suggested topics to be covered, if you have more ideas please add them below my comment

There should a video about hive, what actually it is.If someone will join then how he /she will know that what actually it is ???

And some basic videos how to work here and other basic stuffs and you know better then what they are 😀

I think it’s been said a few times but having people on the channel from the different teams around would be nice.

One thing that could be cool is to host troubleshooting videos, if we could get a dev to do it a little bit I would totally watch that. At my work, we host daily “office hours” troubleshooting sessions where people bring their issues and we all talk about it and what to do to fix it. This would, in my opinion, be really cool to watch. I don’t know if it would reveal too much code of some of the applications but it would certainly help me to understand how things operate. This content could be pre-recorded and uploaded and edited to be a few minutes long so it can be digested easily.

Just my two cents!

promote Hive with it - talk about the pros and usecases, future ideas, achievements etc.; spreading the word is the most important factor in making our chain more successful

Something like Hive investors show? It's kinda easier to relate once you see all those people, regardless of how big of a stake they have. Don't know, we can play around it.

  • Short explain videos " how to use hive" like 3 min long ( not too complex and technical). That covers all first users' questions.
  • benefits for hive content creators ( like nobody can delete the connection between content creator and follower)
  • and so on

IMO more videos that are not for Hive users. Only for Outsite users to inform what hive is. So these videos can be shared on other social media to get the attention of new users.

Like @sanjeevm already mention, videos about dapps would also be very useful.

For Development content, I would prefer to have a "hive dev" youtube channel or use an app on hive.

That the youtube videos need to be uploaded on either 3speak or dtube or both. I have gotten pretty tired of trying to play chase the video down on youtube, ytube demand.png
When you click that it just takes you to youtube and then you need to play youtubes hunt and find game, so with being a very international group of people from all over the world having a link to a site that does not block the video based on country of origin would be nice.

For content maybe expand outside the developer/crypto range a little bit, start introducing some of the social aspects to people. For a short 10-15 minute show maybe a weekly recap on Tuesdays highlighting Asher's Curation and Engagement League, and then a recap of the Weekend-engagement post from @galenkp.
this weekend - - - - - - 623 comments
last weekend - - - - - - 597
the weekend before that - 476
Show people on youtube that yes there is more than just a crypto and development environment on Hive Block Chain.

Thanks for the mention @bashadow. :)

If the purpose is to draw people in, then the non crypto side, non technical side needs to be highlighted some.

Yep, get them up and running, having fun and interacting, and then the rest can come little by little. Sounds legit.

  1. A tutorial series. Something newbies can refer to and it can be updated over time as things change
  2. short weekly clips of the trending posts on the hive network
  3. A monthly new gazette of the various development on the blockchain

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think that a periodic update on the progress of the approved and active proposals will not be a bad idea. People need to know what is going on with the fund and how the proposals have been benefiting the community.

Create tutorial on how to create a dapp on hive,
Tutorial on how to receive data from NODES, Hivemind, HIVESQL
Tutorial on how to post to the blockchain using programming code, how to post a custom_json, normal post...
Create video talking about opportunities on hive, for example, the emergence of a new startup, the possibility of creating a business on hive... that is, something that fuels entrepreneurship and partnership.

Exelente iniciativa, daria buenos resultados, gracias.
