A Spring Sunday walk on a farm!

A Bles buck or Bonte buck having a Sunday siesta!

We are surrounded by history here in the Western Cape Province and we visited one of the historic farms today in search of the grave of one of the original owners.
It is a huge farm, some 3000 plus hectares and it was much bigger in it's early years.

Lady Marian here above amongst the early spring season daisies!

A distant view of one of the many cattle stations!

Now how is this above for a picture to warm the heart, as there are daisies all over the place.

Some of the bucks in a large feeding camp!

A slow cruising Jackal Buzzard high up on the thermals scouting for prey!

Ah! We found the grave of Harry Kerr. Governor van der Stel established the farm and when he was recalled to the Netherlands, this Irish man Harry Kerr bought the farm where he, his wife and their eight children lived.

306.JPG

As you can see here Harry Kerr died in 1905, but I don't know the story of the month old twins David and Mary that were "interred" (buried) in a place called Mowbray.

308.JPG

The grave is situated among old oak trees and the capstone shows a peaceful dove motif.

Looked like this little calf said a sad farewell to us as we left the farm!

I have posted about the "Vergelegen" meaning "Far away" farm in the past and the new story today here will be followed up on if I am successful to get the permission to go and film the latest addition to the farm.
They have received 5 Eland bucks and will make an effort to re establish the huge bucks over here again. My aim is to get photos of the bucks that were placed in quarantine in a distant camp.

And That's All Folks!

I leave you with this:

Thank you and it's going to take some negotiations, as the Elands are kept in an exclusive camp, but hopefully the estate manager will allow me to take a few shots of the Eland's.
Always great to be out on the farms here my friend.
Blessings and thank you for the tip!

Now, that looks like Spring - everything gets green, the flowers are blooming and the ladies are smiling 😊

Seems you had a really nice day on this farm my friend. I love the photo where the white clouds are rolling over the mountains most :)
Wish you a great day Zac 🤗

Hahaha, thank you and even the bugs are smiling lol.

I took a video of the clouds rolling over and will post it sometime Hannes.
Hope that you are having a good start to the week.

Btw. I have decided to stay in the EL for another week to see how I am doing.

Cheers and thank you my friend.

😁
It's raining here and I use my lunch time to quickly reply to a few comments. I don't know if I'll be much online in the afternoon or in the evening.

OK, fine, I hope I can help you a bit on your way to the very top 😉

Cheers and !BEER

Good morning Hannes,

I say good morning because you are sleeping now and I only got back here 30 minutes ago at 10pm.
So you will see it in the morning lol.

As our power was switched off from 6pm, I decided to go and get some sunset shots at the ocean. So we took a drive in my form of a Harley, being a small Volkswagen Polo and only got back just now.

As always I appreciate your help, but the top is really not for me. I will like to stay in the top 10 if I can. but even that is not essential. Besides, I enjoy our chats.

Here's an ocean sunset shot for you!

Not as great as your photos, but something to look at!

Cheers and thanks!

Good morning Zac,

it's 6:45am and I enjoy the quiet time in the office before everyone else starts to work, and I take advantage of this time to reply as much as I can ... 😉

I would love to have such a view somewhere nearby and you may believe me that I'd be there every single day in the mornings as well as in the evenings - I love such photos and thank you for showing me beautiful sunshine, because here it is still gray outside 😃

Wish you a wonderful day my friend 🤗

Good morning Hannes,

Glad that the sunlight lifted your mood in the grayness of your morning and I hope by now that the sun has made its appearance. Or maybe you are too busy already to have noticed hahahah.

We are having a clear 27C day and the wind has taken a holiday, so its going to be another beautiful day.
I am going back there tonight during loadshedding to see if I can get some more shots and then I also want to go on a cloudy day to get the colors.

Glad that you enjoyed a bit of warmth my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Good day Zac 😄

Oh yes, I enjoyed the photo and yes, I can see that the clouds are disappearing and make place for the blue sky and the sun 🌞

My day isn't over yet but I might go for a little ride and maybe stay offline tonight, but first I have to try to make all replies 😉

I hope you have a nice day too and get some great shots tonight 🙂

Lovely spot to visit! I love looking at historical sites.
Are those daisies wild or do they cultivate them there? It looked like they were planted in rows in that one photo.
Marion looks very beautiful among them!
Such a cute calf - you have different type of cows then we have here - lovely coloring!

Thank you and they have indeed planted the two long blocks of daisies in the field fronting the mountain look out area of the farm's 5 star restaurant and wine tasting building.
Yeah, I had the idea of seating her there to shoe the beauty of the young daisy plants. Spring is here and soon those plants will all grow into daisy bushes that is going to look even more spectacular.

Yes, we have African bred cattle here, but there are other farms with different breeds of cattle.
That little calf was heat warming lol.

The little calf makes my heart melt! It's so adorable!!!

Oh yeah you are so right and we felt the same way :)
Thank you for popping in Lady Gabriela.

What cool place to visit so much to see with both the buildings and Animals thanks for sharing with us

That farm was established in the 1700s JJ.
A lot of history there and interesting stories about the early days in its history.
Up north my grandfather's farm was about the same size, and they are bigger than some European countries lol.
My pleasure to share.

WOw thats a lot of history for sure I love visiting places like that but I got to experience it through your awesome post

WOW farms bigger than some countries WOW

We share that love my friend and still have many farms to visit here.
Glad that you loved the post and these are not the biggest farms in South Africa, as there are some farms that are double their size.

Blessings!

Always good to have a list of places to visit, we have a list we are building up here of places to see

Yeah, but the way things are going here, we rather stay close to home in our own area currently.

Same here most of our places we want to go are pretty close and places where we do not expect many to be at and plenty of space to keep well away from others

Now look at all those daisies! A flower between flowers! Lovely!

Newly planted in an a field at the front of the restaurant's mountain views my friend.
The plants will grow into low bushes which will create a colorful yellow carpet of flowers.

I will tell Marian that you kindly called her a flower between flowers lol.

Thank you kindly!

Uuu a carpet of flowers😍😍

Yes, beautiful indeed and in spring now here many wide open areas have natural carpets of flowers lol,
