LOH #95: My Favorite Snack aka My Happy Food

in Ladies of Hive2 years ago (edited)

The Ladies Of Hive announced their 95th Community Contest, and I was so grateful to read a post about it the other day. Unfortunately, I forgot who the author was that submitted that entry so can't mention her here.

This is my first time joining such a contest, and I'm excited to participate in more like this in the future.

To join the contest, you have two topics to choose from. One is about that "one thing that makes you angry", and the other is about "your favorite snack or snacks"?

I wanted to write the first one, but right now, I'm hungry, and all I can think of is food. Hence, the topic that I'm going to write about is regarding my favorite snack, which is BANANAS. So if you're interested to know more, please, do continue reading. Who knows, you might like my likes too.

I am from the Philippines, by the way, and my country is abundant with such fruit. In fact, we used to grow bananas when my dad was still alive. Bananas are special to me because it reminded me of my dad, who had been a huge factor in why I love this fruit so much.

I love bananas because there are so many ways to eat them. You can eat them when they are ripe or cook them in many ways. Either way, I love them all! Well, enough with the long introduction, and meet my favorite snacks made of bananas:

One of my favorites is the banana cues. Every time I see someone selling banana cues in the street, I always make sure to buy some. Banana cues are deep-fried bananas on a stick, coated in caramelized brown sugar. They are so yummy that I could even finish 2-3 banana cues, depending on how hungry I am, at that time.

Another banana dish that I do love is the so-called Turon. This is another famous Filipino dessert/street food made of banana and jackfruit. Unlike the banana cue, this one is wrapped in an eggroll wrapper and deep fried in caramelized brown sugar.

We also have sweetened bananas, also known as minatamis, which are made with chopped saba bananas cooked with water and brown sugar. We usually add this with a lime peel to add extra taste. Others would add a bit of salt, vanilla extract, or even pandan leaf for extra flavors.

How could I forget about fried bananas, which are made from ripe saba bananas, sliced lengthwise or crosswise, and fried in cooking oil? You can add brown sugar to it to add caramelized texture or sprinkle it with white sugar afterward.

Then we have Ginanggang. It is basically grilled bananas brushed with margarine and sprinkled with white sugar. They are usually sold on a stick. This is also one of my favorites because it reminds me of my grade school days.

Lastly, the nilagang saba. These are just bananas cooked in boiling water. Of all the banana dishes I have mentioned, this one is the easiest and the simplest to cook. This is usually paired with what we call in Bisaya, ginamos, or salted fermented fish.

So these are my super-duper favorite snacks ever since I was a child. I call it my happy food. Unfortunately, since I'm trying to lose weight, I need to limit the number of bananas I eat every day or every week as they are high in sugar. 😞

Closing thoughts

Before I end this entry, I would like to thank @ifarmgirl for this initiative. Her questions are a great way for us, newbies from another platform, to showcase, not only our writing skills but also the things that we can share with the community something about ourselves. This will encourage more newbies to participate and, at the same time, have fun.

I had fun writing my entry. Well, when it comes to food, dogs, and movies, I always have something to share in the community.

@bmjc98, You have received 1.0000 LOH for posting in Ladies of Hive. We believe that you should be rewarded for the time and effort spent in creating articles. The goal is to encourage token holders to accumulate and hodl LOH tokens over a long period of time.

I also love banana cue and turon bmjc98 they are my go to meal especially if there's a time to prepare some snacks.

I seldom eat nilagang saging na saba though because it doesn't sugar haha. Mabilis din pangwala ng gutom kaya solb na solb!

TP, question, ilan ba need na credit to be able to post? Hayst, na ubusan ako kaka upvote habang nagbabasa. Na realized ko me di ako na delete sa article ko yung isang cover photo. Hayst.

To be honest, if normal user 15 HivePower will be enough for a day without reblogging and following. Pero in your case since I saw some follows, deletion done it will not be enough.

I delegated 30 Hivepower for you just manage it well muna and get back at me if incase na kulang parin.

Sorry sa abala ha. Nasa Discord ba article about sa HP? What do you mean deletion? About sa pag edit ng article? I really need to read this para ma budget ko to. But thank you so much TP sa help.

Parang wala atang guides about it. Pero isipin mo nalang na every action na you will do kahit edit the article pa iyan will consume your resource credits. Since walang fees involved si Hive ayan ang nagagamit daily. Pwede mo i check ang iyong RC everytime.

No worries dun sa delegation, I am not using it that much naman so I have some to spare.

Thank you so much, TP. Will observe na lang magkano per activity ang magagamit kong HP. Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Your photos made me really hungry, MJ! And I learned something new, Minatamis and Ginanggang. I honestly have not seen or tried these before.

I can't say no to bananas either, but I love them raw and not cooked :) Although I can indulge with banana cues when my appetite calls it :)

Thank you for your participation, I am glad that these prompts are helpful in a way :)

Cheers to you sis and happy weekend!

Hi MJ! Here too there are a lot of bananas, but we don't eat them in many of the presentations you mention. I would love to try the Banana cue.
Here we eat a lot of fried plantains, baked plantains with grated white cheese on top, and green plantains we also eat them fried but in that case, we call them tostones.

Yeah, try the banana cue. It's just deep-frying and not much ingredients to add. Same goes with the sweetened bananas or the ginanggang. Dang! This topic makes me hungry now. Lol.

Welcome to the Ladies of Hive, @bmjc98 !
I hope you will enjoy your stay with us!
Wow, several ways with bananas!
When I am by an Asian store, I get some bananas... I know that variety is very special and found only in Asian stores.

Yay! You can try any of this when you have the right bananas. Try first the banana cues and turon. They are one of the best!

And I'm looking forward to your new topic. So glad to find this community. And hey, thank you so much for the upvote. Very much appreciated. 🤗

Your article was upvote by @minnowsupport !

You have a good choice of snacks, I always love to eat bananas because of it's sweet taste. I can already imagined how tasty it will be with those combo😋😋

Feel free to try any of these. You can watch youtube if you want. Try the banana cue first. I'm sure you're gonna love it. ☺️

I am salivating already😂seeing this nice food you posted, I wish I can devour it right now😂.

Try these recipes when you have the right bananas. You can make them since they are so easy to make. :) I'm glad you like the post.

Aw. Glad this post has made you reminisce your childhood days. As for the banana biscuits, that sounds interesting. Doubt if I had tried it before. I did try banana chips tho. Anyway, thank you for dropping by and sharing something you had as a kid. Much appreciated.
