RE: Sunday Funday: November 16th, 2025

in Reflections24 days ago

My Sunday is a Saturday as I have Monday off; and if that makes any sense to you, you're smarter than me. Well, everyone knows you're smarter than me already I guess. I'm sort of like Ruprecht from dirty rotten scoundrels, everyone needs a brother like that.

Not much going on here really, did some shopping, bought our nephew a Casino watch for a gift when I see him in a couple weeks, and some other stuff. Made home made burgers for dinner and am about to throw on a few episodes of Seal Team.

Test driving cars tomorrow.

Anyways, good video chat earlier, @smallsteps is looking cuter by the day.

Sort:

That makes all the sense to me. I don't work Mondays so my Sunday is always a Saturday, a second Saturday!

I fucken knew you'd get it!

Mother fucken titan!

Also, fuck you ya smug cunt and your four day weeks.

I am as smug a big fucksmug McSmugcunt!!

Heh heh 😃😃

I know someone who's exactly the same way.

Becca 🌷

Lol. I bet you do!! 😃😃

🙄

Haha! Fucken cracked me up! 😂

Do you work Saturdays, or are you on one of those "four-day week" experiments?

I do compressed hours so work longer days Tuesday to Thursday for eternal three day weekends.

I could never go back to a two day weekend

Compressed hours or depressed hours?

I could never go back to a two day weekend

You see? This is why people look up to you and hail your name and why you will go down in the annals of human history.

(Not the anals.)

That's good it's not the anals!!

They can be depressed but that's a whole different kettle of fish!!

Depressed anals...it's a terrible affliction.

Impressed anals are better?

That is awesome! This is the way it should be done.

It's rather good. The last time I got a raise I reduced my hours by 2 so I didn't see any monetary impact but work slightly shorter days 😃

My brother ones wanted to be let go in a friendly way to focus on his own business. So he told the CEO: "I need you to double my daily pay." He thought himself so smart. But they just said "Okay." without further negotiation. He said he never felt so dumb in his life 🤣

Oh man, that's awful. They were obviously well aware they were paying him less than top dollar!!

If you keep going, eventually you will be getting paid to not work.

My incredibly secret plan

Why not two Sundays? Having two Saturdays is still a little unrestful. Although, maybe not if you're Jewish. Just searched that, apparently, also the Adventists, Seventh-Day-Baptists, plus some orthodox branches have the Sabbath as a day to rest.

I'm apparently Lutheran (in northern Germany, it's just called "evangelisch"). Saturday is basically another work day where you don't go to work, but still work, anyway. Even or especially if you're hungover. Thought that could've been my mom's household-religion. "If you can party, you can work!" Mowing the lawn with thick head is a teaching moment. She thought. But it just made me more resilient.

Sunday feels too slow of a day to have two of. Where's Saturday... That's a day you can do let's of things. It's an action happy adventure day!

I have mowed the lawn in many a state, lol

It is the same in Finland. Work vacation counts Saturday, even though the work isn't on a Saturday silly! So to get three weeks of holiday, you need 18 days of holidays.

hey, at least you don't need 21 days. Here in Ecuador, they count Holidays and everything. That's why most companies have mandatory vacations over Christmas - you'd have the holiday anyway, but they can still discount it from your vacation.

Oh, I should test drive cars too - not because I am buying one, just to see what is out there. I think I will get an electric car, once there are solid state batteries that are cheep enough.

in 2045

I don't think they are quite here yet. Insurance is ridiculous even on the baby models, and while they are quick 0-60.. top end is shit unless its a Tesla. Can't buy new diesels.. and most of my driving is motorway. I need a flying carpet, with a roof.. for my next vehicle.

I need a flying carpet, with a roof.. for my next vehicle.

I think this might be cultural appropriation.

The roof is most important, it rains here... a LOT.. 😀..

One of the things about not having a car is not having to pay insurance. Health insurance, on the other hand, is incredibly necessary given the driving skills propagated in my home country. And no, they don't have car insurance either, nor accident insurance or anything.

I don't have any choice, its a 30 mile drive one way to work. Trains would take hours, the train network here sucks.

Helicopter it is then! Or an Octocopter. Or a sandworm. Hyperloops? Electrically supported bycicles are the thing here. Or electric scooters, they now do 30miles I think. Or magic. Magic always works.

I'll be dead by 2045, maybe affordable SSB's will be out prior. I read Toyota are bringing out a hydrogen cell Hilux in 2028...I might also be dead by then though. Hopefully not. I think my next "small car" will be hybrid and possibly full EV...not my next truck though, diesel.

Hilus is the dream of many people here. Most have BT60s or DMAX, as affordable country cars. Those who have the Hilux are usually very happy with the performance and durability, but of course, gotta have the money to get one.

Hybrids are getting more common her, but especially full EV. BYD is expanding quickly, even in my little town we have 3 of them now, two SUVs and one small car.

BYD, Chinese junk.

There's a lot of pickups here, all the American ones of course and others. The three top selling cars - I mean vehicles, not just pickups - are the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu Dmax. That shows how popular the pickup is here I guess.

Isuzu DMAX is mainly Chevrolet here. The Vitara is represented by Chevrolet, Isuzu and Suzuki here, which is somewhat confusing, but that meddling of brands under the same Umbrella Foundation.

Are there any electricity worries with the EVs there?

We're getting so much rain now that the electricity worries are gone for now. Not that anything changed, in the next drought, we'll have black outs again. But out of sight, out of mind is the predominant philosophy here.

Yeah, it is the blackouts I was thinking of. The grid seems pretty unstable. I think in 22 years in Finland, I have experienced two short-lived blackouts

it's dependent on 85% hydro power... I think they're working on some Geothermal stuff, which makes sense with the thousand volancoes around, and also a solar energy plant - which does make sense, too. Ecuador is the perfect country for almost every renewable energy. Except wind. The getting those structures through the mountains is kind of impossible. They made it work in Loja, though, and the plants they have there helped a lot to power the city during the crisis last year.

I read Toyota are bringing out a hydrogen cell Hilux in 2028

Would you consider one?

Possibly, depends what the payload and towing specs are like, and the range. Although, the 2026 Hilux is a fucken abomination from a looks perspective.

You should get a Cybertruck then 😜

I'd rather kill myself.

Probably a common reaction. Could be an interesting approach to population control. "Congratulations! You just won a Cybertruck! No refunds. Will be stationed in your driveway tomorrow."

I have seen some episodes of Seal Team as well. I find it interesting that some characters get so used to fighting in wars that in the time of peace it seems that they can't find their place.

The battlefield takes a toll on warfighters and for most the battle doesn't end when the war does, it stays for life.

few months ago I had to go to the day hospital again. One person there during a group talk said that he fought in some war. He regretted having had to kill people to this day. and said that he still dreams about it even now many years later. One thing he was glad about was that he did not kill any woman or children.

Yeah, PTS is a real thing.

One think he was glad about was that he did not kill any woman or children.

It seems that some enjoy this part the most.

Haven't seen anything about it

I'm lacking discipline today. Have a long list of to-does, but I'm reading and chuckling over comments here on this post for 30min now. Slow Sunday here, raining. Lily is with her mom, so I don't have too much pressure.

That burger part sounds great. I got an electric grill from my health insurance, and I still have some patties in the freezer that my brother had brought from Quito during the strikes. Might be a good option... Also, I really have to go now, my nephew-in-law's birthday is in 2 days and we're going to celebrate him at the local brewery (he's 10 or 11... but they have lemonade, too, he'll be fine. He already got cake yesterday. I'm not even sure if he's coming. Anyway, gotta go.)

Hopefully the celebration was good, and you gave the kid twelve beers. 🤣

He got waffles, popcorn, and chicken wings. I got 3 beers on an empty stomach. 4.30pm now, gotta do inventory, and several other chores. That's going to be fun!!!

Waffles, always a winner.

Test driving? New car on the cards?

Yeah, something going and something new coming. I'll fill you in down the track, it's not as straightforward as I'd like; choices and all.

Toss up between a Ferrari, Lamborghini and a McLaren?

A new brand, the McFerrarborghini.

New out of China

Yeah, like so much other trash.

(And Covid 19)
