WTF: Have You Forked Up?

We Talk Friday

(WTF)

This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.

We Talk Friday Ep. 31: Have You Forked Up?

Have you changed your Hive behaviours?

Behiviours?

We have now been cruising along on v1.28 for over a week now and while I haven't changed yet, I am going to have to adjust my voting a bit, because I am running out of voting power too quickly, staying too narrow. This is because I vote on comments quite generously, and with the "flat-rate" voting mechanism, it is eating down the power more quickly.

For those that don't yet know, the voting calculations changed in Hardfork 28 so that it is a simpler mechanism. A 100% vote always takes 2% of voting power, a 50% takes 1%, a 25% takes 0.5% and all the way down. This is different because while a 100% vote when at 100 voting power would take 2%, it would scale so that the next 100% vote would take about 1.8% of voting power and provide less upvote. Now, 100% is 100% value, and will take a straight-line reduction in power.

So if someone was watching their vote earlier and would not drop under 80% (voting power replenishes at 20% in 24 hours), they will find that they are in the 70s instead. If they continue voting in the same way the next day, they will reduce their power into the 60s. The bucket is being emptied faster than it is filled.

image.png

Since I have powered up a fair bit lately, my voting value is pretty high, so I should reduce it a little on comments. Though, should and will are two very different things. I would like to reward some more content though, so reduction might be necessary. Though, it is pretty incredible that someone can earn around 3+ HIVE by being part of the conversation, so hopefully they appreciate it. It is also pretty incredible that my full vote value is around 27 HIVE.

HIVE price is terrible!

At the high, that would be a (suitable for my humour) $69 vote. $690 distributed a day. That also means a comment today would be earning over $7. Not bad if we get to those prices again, and people held. If they powered up and voted, those values would compound further.

Will we ever see those prices again?

Dunno. But when HIVE is hovering around 10 cents, it is easy dismiss it all and not really appreciate the potential. So many people might have some regrets looking back at these low times, because they were selling, or not buying, or not earning, or doing something that doesn't support them in the future.

Will that be you?

I bought.

Did you fork up?

You don't have anything to worry about until you get down to 20%. That would mean that you have one day worth of voting left and 4 days to get back to 100%

I have changed my curation practice to go down to 0% every day. It makes no sense to hold multiple days in reserve now that there is no more decay in voting value.

P.S. I don't know if Hive ever reaches it's all time high, but I am powering up every single Hive I earn and even buying more...

Ah! Hadn't even thought about it properly. Yeah, it doesn't matter how I vote, as long as I have voting power when I want to vote! :D

P.S. I don't know if Hive ever reaches it's all time high, but I am powering up every single Hive I earn and even buying more...

Yep. Fingers crossed and god save us all...

This system fits well with the way I used to do things. I knew there would be comments rolling in so I'd ensure my vote power was charged before posting. After posting, my comment section would become the content I'm engaging with and rewarding. Didn't have time for anything else.

Never did the thing where I have a bot voting for other things in the background as I'm busy with my own stuff.

Having this system back then, I would've been able to be even more efficient. I valued the organic experience. This system is better suited for that. Goes with the flow while you're busy just going with the flow.

Kind of funny as well. I was busy engaging with and rewarding short-form content long before people even knew it was short-form content here. Didn't even have to search for it. It came to me in the form of comments.

Been trying out the new "official" short-form methods. Snaps mainly. Unfortunately, there's not much engagement to reward. Still running into the oldest of all problems. People come here to post and be rewarded for it. Not many focused on consumption and being rewarded for it. But I figured out a strategy long ago on leo threads that worked. Simply create an attractive short-form post. Rewarding the engagement is how I'd earn from it. If snaps had thousands of people around, it would be quite easy to earn more rewarding consumers. Maybe the post earns a dollar but I could earn 5 handing out 10 to those engaging. This system makes that a lot simpler, and more rewarding as well.

One part I'm struggling with is finding attractive content. Things that catch my eye and keep my interest. I'd like to be a little more active as a consumer. Creators don't make it easy. And I'm not about to go handing out participation rewards just because I have extra voting power. I'm fine with going somewhere else or doing other things in life.

Great system for handling comments! I followed a very similar approach myself, even now when I read comments under other people’s posts. And even back when my VP was already below 80% (now it’s mentally much easier even when VP is below 50%). I would tell myself: how can I not upvote this comment? What else is even worth voting for, if not something like this?!

Another benefit: Don't need to be here every day. Can burn through that mana in one or two days of casual use, then feel free to take some time away, while it charges. Far more consumer friendly. And better for one's health.

Though I have doubts I'll be sticking around much longer, it's been good to see and experience this change. I see it as a good thing. But in general I think majority will apply it to old habits, the new generation will follow suit and the benefits will be replaced with tradition.

Looking forward to being wrong about that.

This system is better suited for that. Goes with the flow while you're busy just going with the flow.

Yep, it seems that way. Less thought has to go into when and where.

Kind of funny as well. I was busy engaging with and rewarding short-form content long before people even knew it was short-form content here. Didn't even have to search for it. It came to me in the form of comments.

This is the way to reward shortform content too. I am not a fan of the majority of shortform main posts, but a huge fan of the comments section.

Been trying out the new "official" short-form methods. Snaps mainly. Unfortunately, there's not much engagement to reward.

This is the problem with a lot of shortform content as main posts, it doesn't often inspire much engagement, and because it is so easy to do, it can get flooded, like Twitter. Something like 99% of posts on twitter get zero engagement, even when not done by a bot.

One part I'm struggling with is finding attractive content. Things that catch my eye and keep my interest. I'd like to be a little more active as a consumer.

And this is a major issue, because shortform content ends up being somewhat of a race to the bottom, as evidenced by a lot of the other platforms, However, I think it would be more societally beneficial to have decent discussions around longer form content that matters. But, that is my preference :)

It's true, majority shortform is posting into a void. Knowing that helps avoid disappointment. Having a special place for it rather than being mixed in with regular content, is consumer friendly. This is the right approach. The best of both worlds. I'm happy to see these changes.

Which brings me to my next point. I wasn't clear. Struggling to find attractive content, overall. Everywhere. But that's not me saying it's poor quality content. I've been doom scrolling. Things are not catching my eyes. This happens on every platform. Including the listings on the TV or trying to find a movie, even back in the rental days walking up and down the aisles, bombarded with content.

I do miss the conversations. Joking around and whatever else. Had a good experience recently on snaps where I posted some old art, said nothing, sat back and thoroughly enjoyed the response, yet still said nothing. Gave everyone an upvote(thinking about upping the percentage). Tried again. Flop. lol

I've been doom scrolling. Things are not catching my eyes. This happens on every platform.

I think it is a symptom of content overload. No matter the quality or lack, it is just constant. As a kid, I used to like watching 21 Jump Street, and I knew it was on a Thursday evening. The rest of the time, I was playing in the world. Now, play is the rarity, content stream the norm. Imagine having sex 16 hours a day for years - is it still good?

I don't know, but I am willing to do the experiment.

I grew up with a little dog like that. He was about two or three when I was born. He was a bit battered: he only had one eye after an altercation with a cat and at some time he had been run over. He survived and everything seemed to work, he had a little crook in his back, and that was it. I didn't see the accident but I remember my dad coming out of the house and picking him up and putting so gently into a box to take to the vet's. He used to go out on his own, take a turn around the block, cross the road and circumambulate the school playing field opposite, trotting briskly along like he had things to do. I'm not sure how he let my mum know that he was back so she could let him in. He was a calm little dog, coping with the hordes of children my parents had, letting babies clamber over him, but giving a warning growl when any older child took any liberties. He was always so excited to see when you came home from visiting away. That expression was just like him, only one-eyed 😁

Battered old dogs can be the loveliest. There is something about the "survivor" in them. Some people have said that dachshunds are bad with kids, but we had an awesome experience with our last one and Smallsteps. He was so patient with her, no matter what she did.

Tonight, we had our "loan dog" visit so they could meet and it was awesome! After a tentative start, it looks like they will become good friends :)

Look what you made me do - check out the dog rescue site and they have these two little cuties 😂:

It's all sounding really good 😍

Just did my last power-up for the year, in order to reach my goal of a 10k combined with a KE of <1. Feels good! Nowhere near you, of course, actually 1% of your holding, but even I strategize on my VP already. I upped my comment standard to 20%. My 100% not the 0.001 that it used to be a year ago, but can get up to 0.065$ now! That's pretty awesome in my eyes.

image.png

I took advantage of the price. Or at least I hope I did. Maybe it was a bull trap? Who knows, time will tell, I'm happy either way 🙃 Hope you'll have a great weekend!

Congrats on 10K!

Maybe it was a bull trap?

I get caught constantly! Always bullish, when I am actually a bear. :)

Catching falling knives and such 🤣🤣 I hope it really turns around. And even if it's just for you, so you can worry a little less on finances.

Yeah, my votes are so weak that I will have to stay above 80% mana, otherwise there is no point for me to vote at all. So less voting. Also, some communities are now full of AI generated trash, that it's super important where you post as you might go unnoticed 100%

Mana no longer matters, only your vote power. If you vote with 100% at 100% Mana your vote value will be the same as your vote with 100% at 10% Mana.

Then why my vote value drops immediately when mana goes under 80%?

Look at what it shows after the vote, not in preview 😀

I don't understand? Where do I see that?

I dislike the AI content in pretty much any form. I'd rather see a crappy picture taken on a bad phone by the original poster, thana great AI image.

I bought something, not enough, but it's for trading. No matter how little it is, every bit counts. To be honest, I have a lot of dry powder available, but I don't like to expose myself, and emergencies could be around every corner. But I've grown a lot in my assets, even if it doesn't seem like it. Under the radar, I hope to make my master move in a year or two that will allow me to soar through the skies. For now, it's just about holding on, that's all. I've waited 8 years, what's two more? Everything could go to hell, but we'll see. I hope to catch up with you soon; I'm 94% behind you, but I know I'll make it.

For now, it's just about holding on, that's all. I

It seems to be the conditions all over the world at the moment, in every area. People are just trying to survive. Hopefully it will all work out!

It's been pretty rough keeping my vote power at the level where it used to be. I'm likely going to see a drop in my KE as I have been spending a little bit of HIVE to buy some precious metals and a new watch. I haven't ever taken anything off the platform, so I decided to make a small exception this year for the holidays.

as I have been spending a little bit of HIVE to buy some precious metals and a new watch.

Sounds like fun :)

I haven't ever taken anything off the platform, so I decided to make a small exception this year for the holidays.

I think it is good to do at least sometimes, as a reminder that it is possible :)

Behiviours?

LoL XD

I want to say "you are a legit whale" and it sounds so utterly terrible out of context XD

I have been all over the joint not being able to get anything at all done (at least that's what it feels like) so I'm still in what is probably going to be an extended observation/experimentation period x_x

Now please excuse me while I squee over the PUPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Good to see you hear. I was just thinking today about you :)

I want to say "you are a legit whale" and it sounds so utterly terrible out of context XD

The saddest thing is, it is in two contexts... I'll have to start eating krill. :D

I been gone from Hive for most of the week.(because my pc needed to be fixed). So I had little time to learn the new curation. But I did notice that mana is dropping faster.

I would love to buy more Hive at current prices but for now I prioritize saving for camera.

With the new curation, just vote - don't worry too much about the VP.

You got your PC fixed okay?

yes. I paid 80 for fixing(changing power supply unit) and for new antivirus but now pc works well.

Hive's price will continue to go down until BTC itself recovers, and that might or might not happen before the year out. BTC's recent fluctuations looks like someone is manipulating it's price. When BTC recovers the whole crypto market along with hive will recover. But let's not get too hopeful, this might take months or even years to happen.

I am hoping it will only take a couple months - but it depends on how the world situation goes.

I do like watching the KE tattoo drop as you power up. I think I was 1.06 or somethinga short while ago and now I am 0.81! Woot woot.

I kinda love the new voting changes. It makes so much more sense now

It does make more sense and I assume it takes some calculation load off the system - I assume... coz I don't know :)

I love a good assumption, I believe in this you are right tho, it has to!

Tweaked my voting yesterday as the power percentages were dropping like crazy. I was told yesterday our curation has dropped by 26% in value since the hard fork and it seems about right. We need to have 26% more Hive Power to get back to those curation reward levels we had a week or so ago.

. We need to have 26% more Hive Power to get back to those curation reward levels we had a week or so ago.

Yep, and it is the same across the board, including for the witnesses :)

Also, for us we don't have to worry about the VP so much, since it is always the same.

Although I have been slowly accumulating and increasing my Hive Power for the past five years, I have been financially bankrupt in my personal life due to being a fraudulent( my colleague )bank loan grantor, from where I withdrew a lot of Hive and now I hope to gradually increase my Hive wallet again. Although the price of Hive is very low at the moment. I hope to take advantage of this opportunity and increase my Hive Power in the future.

What do you mean, did one of your friends steal from you?

Vote - wait - vote...I started to put a break on curation during the day...earlier it was once but now I try to do it twice....I dont have much voting value still should support the better one here...so I have 100% to few wait to get it recover and the again goes for doing up vote....making sure not all upvotes makes it 100 %

Just vote as you can, on the content you enjoy :)
It doesn't really matter about the 80% now, as long as you have some voting power.

It’s always wild how low prices make people forget potential upside, its always people regretting to hold. Ten cents may feel like nothing, until it doesn’t. Every cycle just proves that the people who stayed and held during the “boring” moments always end up in the best position later and that is why i will continue to invest my time here.

very cycle just proves that the people who stayed and held during the “boring” moments always end up in the best position later and that is why i will continue to invest my time here.

Tends to be the case, with everyone intending to buy, but come time to sell, they have nothing.

Like youre supposed to invest when the stock is low and sell high but people end up doing the complete opposite. Not just on this chain but generally speaking!!

I haven't changed yet as well, but my APR went down after the HF28. Not sure whether it is about HF28, I think it is mostly due to the price of HIVE. I will check detailly later.

rewards returns dropped around 25%

Which APR?

Honestly, earning 3+ HIVE just from joining a conversation is pretty amazing. It really shows how the ecosystem rewards engagement.

As long as people add some value.

Gratz on the whale status , but you might want to check your witness votes , i saw your name voting for a witness that is no longer active ;)

Will have to have a look, thanks.

Hive Power Up Day - December 1st 2025

I think it's best to carefully review the vote projections, since sometimes extraordinary things are visualized that are barely noticeable and don't receive much reward. There's a lot of work to be done.
