The Brit List: October 2025

in Hive Statistics6 days ago

Introduction

I started compiling these lists in December 2020 to continue something @pennsif used to do as I think it helps bring the community together. Since then I have found lots more people to include. @HiveSQL has been really useful for this. I was using beem to generate this post, but that is not in active development and I found HiveSQL could do it much quicker. I use Python for most things. Some of the post is manual as I like to include some commentary and I will keep tweaking it. I am open to suggestions for improvements. I aim to do a fresh list on the first Saturday of each month.

Logo by @barge

I also rely on the community to let me know of more people to include who may not have obvious account metadata. You can find me in the @teamuksupport Discord to discuss it or drop me a comment.

The #teamuk tag has been used to show you are in the UK and was earning extra votes from a bot, but that has not been active lately. Using the tag may still help me to find you, but please contact me if you think you should be on the list.

The list will include anyone living in the UK as well as Brits who have moved abroad. Inclusion on this list does not mean I recommend people, but I will remove accounts if they are known to be abusing Hive or are falsely reporting their location. I can also remove anyone who asks me to. If you have lost control of your account through phishing or other means then let me know so that I can update your entry. There is the option to be counted without being tagged on these posts if you want that.

The code to produce this post is on Github. People are welcome to use it for their own regional version. I can help you with that if necessary.

Previous editions

What it means

The numbers above are for those who had posted or commented in the previous month. In the lists below I break each region into three lists:

  • Active as above.
  • Just voting. I will guess that a lot of these use automatic votes, e.g. HiveVote. Previously there were some that appear to have been compromised as they vote for known abusers. Those are now excluded until I hear that they have recovered control.
  • Inactive in the last month, but most have done something since Hive started. We can hope to bring them back.

I want to count people rather than accounts as some have several. I can include those in brackets if you want. Let me know if you want me to update your listing. You can be as specific as you like about your location. Otherwise I will use what is on your profile or what I am told or can deduce from your posts.

Other Countries

I have produced similar lists for the following countries. Active numbers are from the last time I ran them. These have used simpler queries than what I use for the UK, so they are likely to miss people. What it needs is for local communities to take up this work. The data and scripts are all on my Github for anyone to make use of. I can do other lists on demand.

Commentary

Well I have to say I am disappointed in the numbers this month as there has been a distinct drop and I did not find many new people to add recently. People will make their own choices on what is worth their time and the stagnant $HIVE price is not helping. I keep posting anyway as I enjoy it and I get better engagement on Hive than elsewhere. As a geek I also like that I can play with the data as I do with these posts. It is all open for anyone to use.

We do need to get some meetups organised. I will get to any I can. There was talk of getting some Hive people to this exhibition last month, but I am not sure if that happened. Hive has had a presence at some events elsewhere and we need more of that. Hive is the natural place for cryptocurrency people to be social as it is independent of the corporate platforms and does not censor content.

I hope that people will be back on Hive when they have time and that we can find more who want to join.

On the plus side we gained another Orca.

I made a small change based on a suggestion by @alonicus to highlight people who joined Hive recently. You will find them at the end below the totals.

#BritList: A monthly list of Hivers in the UK

Fantastic news on another orca. I'm actually starting to think that might be a goal for me now. I never thought I'd get anywhere near at one point.

It's ironic that the numbers are dropping along with the Hive price yet our local South Australia meet ups have been expanding again the last few months. Mostly old hands making more of an effort again (guilty as charged ☝️😜). We've got 2 POMs there too with @ctrpch and myself. 😁

in person meet ups are where its at!

Where did I put my surprised face? 😉🤣
Nice job, mate. I do love graphs and statistics. 📈 📊

We had a UK whale, but he has been powering down for some reason. I'm a long way off that level. We've had many more Brits around over the years, but most have dropped off. People all have other things going on. I find plenty here to enjoy.

The saying, "Each to their own", springs to mind.

I find Hive too much like hard work to derive the same pleasure from it that you do. Twenty years ago, when I was a prolific blogger Hive would have been a perfect platform for me. Today, my blogging is very few and far between, which means the rewards (And I'm not just talking financial) are very small or nonexistent. As with all Social Media platforms these days, they need input pretty much 24/7, to maintain an 'eyes on' experience. Take a day off, and one definitely slips down the list of viewing interests. 🤷‍♂️

The saying, "Each to their own", springs to mind.

I agree. I know that 'blogs' are not really a mainstream thing, but some of us enjoy them. I get enough engagement here to keep me happy. Apart from Hive I use Mastodon to follow various people. I am on Facebook, but the feed there is pretty crap. I like that Hive has no algorithm, so I'll see whatever people I follow post, even if it's just once a month. I'm not on Twtr any more. I do use Feedly to follow various blogs.

People can do short format here, but it's a different vibe to other options. I see Hive as an option if you want to blog without hosting something yourself or rely on some corporate platform. There's potential to earn something from it. Obviously it has not really taken off as we would like, but there is competition in various forms.

We've both seen the online world change a lot over the years. I will just do what I enjoy and what I have time for.

Thanks for the list. I just went and said hello to our newest member. So, a big thanks to you and @alonicus for getting that setup. It would be good if we got some more users as I see we are at our lowest count of actives since Feb 2021.

We definitely need fresh blood. I've brought in a lot of people over the years, but some are not active. They need compelling reasons to return. It is partly an issue of scale.

They need compelling reasons to return

Very true. I have seen a great many Hive users getting great support to reach reps of 61 or so then they come out of support programs and rewards fall, they power down and leave.
The scale is a good one, it depends what you are looking for I guess.

I tend to stop the @tenkminnows support once they graduate, so I hope they continue, but then they need to build a following themselves.

Yes all we can do is hope people continue, you can lead a horse to water and all that.

Thanks for the update ! It's good to see a new Orca, and thank you for adding in new members. I'll put anyone new on my follows, and add them to my favourites for at least a little while so I get the best chance of seeing and upvoting their posts 😀

Having Hive meetups on the side of existing events sounds like a good idea, I think it's just a case of working out what kind of events people like, and also the ones where there's a chance of actually being able to sit down and have a conversation (at least afterwards, if not during, in the case of things like live music !)

I've met some Hivers at various events. We are quite thinly spread with a few clumps, but these posts can help us see who is nearby. I wonder what else we could do with the data.

Amazing work - What are thw best ways for regular hivers to use this data ?

People can see who is active in their region if they want to organise meetups. It is really to give some impression of how we are doing, but it is disappointing to see the numbers drop.

If you have suggestions or questions then I will try to help.

Ok. We have a general crypto meetup at times.
Maybe invite some hiveans ?

Why not? If you post about it then tag me and I will share.

Greetings, friend from Venezuela. I think you're doing excellent work. I don't understand much about coding or programming, but I do understand the value of good work. I like your passion for Hive.
I would also like to see my platform full of bloggers and committed people, beyond the economic part, which is important.
I want to see Hive grow and every day I try to do my part.

The list is growing. Wonderful. That means it would be good if there were more users.

Hi good morning if you could get your friends to stop downvoting people maybe more people would join

Please ask your friends to stop downvoting my original content

I've also sent you a message on Instagram

Everything is documented from the first downvote I received 🙏🏾

I'm not looking at Insta. I have nothing to hide, so post what you want here. I have been open and honest with you all along, but you persist with this fantasy of the whales being my BFFs. I wish they would show that with some votes.

image.png

Here is the evidence of the one downvote I gave you 7 years ago, worth 8c, plus all my other votes for you. You never mention my upvotes, but you have left me hundreds of comments accusing me of being nasty to you. I was part of the anti-abuse group, but gave that up years ago as other people do it now.

I have been downvoted over 16,000 times since I have been here, but that is a fact of life and I do not take them all personally. You have had half as many. It is obvious that complaining to me does not change anything. I will not reply unless you say something different.

Enjoy your Sunday.

I just sent you a message on Instagram

You know what's going on is wrong but you do nothing

You have sent people to downvote me

Please tell your friends to leave me alone thank you 🙏🏾

Your friend is still downvoting my comments https://hive.blog/hive-150329/@kgakakillerg/t3p2bj

I've sent you plenty of messages on Instagram

Sigh. What's the point of talking to you if you never listen or believe me? I've told you I don't look at Insta, so don't waste your time messaging me. I can't stop the downvotes and you have to convince those behind it that you can change. Your bilp friend does not help your case.

I've sent you a message on Instagram

All I can say is that the people downvoting my original post's and comments are not doing you any favours and are making it clear that you could do something about

I've been very nice to considering the blatant abuse I've faced from your friends

Tell your friends and blocktrades to leave me alone and get on with their life's

Leave me alone and everyone else who has done nothing wrong
