Why I purchased an Xbox Series S in 2024

It's been far too long Xbox 🤩🌌🎮

I was one of the few lucky kids at my school to get an Xbox 360 for Christmas in 2005. The console had only been out a month and my parents somehow managed to surprise me with one despite them being very hard to find. I was so happy to have one of my own and will never forget that memory. My Xbox years were some good ones, that's for sure.

In November of 2013, I decided to switch from Xbox to PlayStation with the launch of the PS4. Then in November of 2020, I made the obvious choice of purchasing a PS5. I truly believe it was the right decision.

With that said, there have been numerous instances over the years where I wished I also had an Xbox to play some of their exclusives. Before you ask, a PC just isn't an option for me as I am fully invested in the Apple ecosystem and my iMac and Macbook Pro are my only computers.

About a month ago I visited my brother in Pennsylvania and got a chance to play both Halo Infinite and Gears 5 on his Series X. It was so much fun and I couldn't forget about the experience once I arrived back at my own home.

I weighed my options. Should I get an old Xbox One or a Series X or S? After much research, I determined that the Series S was the right console for me. I'd have access to all of the latest games, it is small and the perfect travel console. Plus I didn't mind that it was digital only since I have zero Xbox games on disc. It just made sense.

I configured my Facebook Marketplace notifications to alert me when any Xbox Series S was listed at or under $160. That seemed like a good price to me as these things are still going for $300 new. It only took me two days to find the perfect console for me.

I woke up early before 8am one morning to an alert stating somebody less than 5 miles from me posted their Series S with a controller for only $160. I messaged him only an hour after it had been posted and he replied instantly. I offered $140 and he countered with $150. We both were ready to make the deal happen. Before it was 10 am, I was back at my apartment setting up my Series S. I was so hyped.

I had almost no space on my tv stand for another console, but thanks to the Series S being so small, it slid right under my Sony X900 tv. The first game I downloaded was Halo Infinite since the multiplayer portion is free to play.

Soon after I texted my little brother and he sent me his login info so that I could game share with his Game Pass Ultimate subscription. At that point I wasted no time filling up my 512 GB SSD. More like slightly over 300gb once all of the system software is installed. It may sound small, but remember, I still have my PS5 with 1.825 TB worth of storage. That's where the bulk of my gaming will remain, but now the Xbox will house exclusives and a few game pass titles.

If you're wondering which games I decided to install first, have a look at my current library below:

That's right, I just happened to purchase a Series S the same day that Diablo IV was surprisingly added to Xbox Game Pass. Huge score for me as I have been dying to check that game out. I also was able to install Remnant II, Life of P, Hi-Fi Rush, and Payday 3. There are so many other awesome titles on Game Pass too. 7 seems like a healthy amount for now though. I have so many options, especially when combined with the 20-30 games I have installed on my PS5.

Fun fact, I paid for this Series S using a reward from Hive. I swapped some HIVE for LTC and loaded the money up on my Crypto.com debit card. I'm so thankful for the support I receive here. The upvotes and curation/staking rewards I have earned over the years have allowed me to purchase many devices that level up my content creation arsenal. I am truly blessed and will never forget it.

I've talked quite a bit about my latest addition to my gaming life, but I decided to make a video talking in depth even more. It's not often lately that I show my face in my videos, so I figured that would make this moment even more memorable. You can hear the excitement in my voice.

Thanks for watching and be sure to drop any comments you may have down below, I will get back to everyone.

Wow, welcome to the Xbox world, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot. I have all the Xbox consoles from the classic OG to the Xbox series S.

I really like Xbox because of the Gamepass subscription that really gives it life to your console and many content options for creating gameplay etc...

I hope to see soon what you can do with that small but powerful console. Regarding gameplay recording, you can add an exclusive USB storage o a normal external hard drive for your recordings and it will give you the option more recording time in very good quality, You can also download the games there and just move them between the internal memory and your external storage to run them, that's faster than downloading them when you want to play them, because there are games that only run on internal storage but there are some that do run on an external hard drive, mostly those that are not exclusive to Series X/S.

I'm just as excited about your new acquisition, which by the way is at a very good price of less than $160, that's a great deal, congratulations.

See ya soon.

!PIZZA 🍕

I had an original Xbox for a short amount of time and then a 360 from launch until 2013, even dealt with a few red rings.

Game Pass is awesome! I’ve been relying on PS game catalog for the last few years, but having both means I will pretty much never have to purchase a game full price ever again.

I tried the external usb for videos because I already had one handy. Sadly, the way you have to format on Xbox Series for recordings doesn’t pair well with my Mac. My computer can’t even read the drive, so that option has been pretty useless to me. I’ve been more than okay with recording multiple 4 minute clips and then just downloading them from the Xbox app. I do think it’s a bit odd that you cannot record gameplay clips with microphone audio however. My PS5 is much more user friendly when it comes to content creation, but both are acceptable to me.

I’ve watched a few videos explaining the transferring of games and X|S games can only run on the internal SSD or the official storage expansion that plugs in the back. My plan is to just get a 1TB storage card next time I see them on sale because most of the games I tend to flock to seem to be X|S.

Yes, I think that due to the quality/price of the Xbox series S, the only foot that limps is the storage problem and of course what you mention about the facilities that the PS5 provides for the creation of content such as microphone recording that's so dope.

Since I also have a PS5, none of the Series S setbacks really bother me at all. It’s perfect for what I was wanting. The compact size is a huge bonus too.

The only reason I would buy an Xbox is for the upcoming Bethesda games. Microsoft buying them sucked, and means The Elder Scrolls and Fallout wont be coming to the Sony platform.

I jumped before you in 2010, after 3 consoles with red rings. That was enough for me. Never had a problem with any PS3/4/5. Great systems, all of them.

It's definitely weird that Bethesda is Microsoft's now. I'm not as into their games as I used to be anyways though. I still haven't even tried Starfield, but will eventually. Elder Scrolls is my favorite of theirs, but I love some Fallout too. The new tv show has me wanting to download the next-gen update for Fallout 4 coming out later this month.

I'm not sure I know somebody who owned a 360 and did NOT have to deal with red ring... but 3, DAMN. I'd never go back to that ex.

The new tv show has me wanting to download the next-gen update for Fallout 4 coming out later this month.

Yeah me too. It's out soon and I will probably fire up Fallout 4 again as I never got close to finishing it.

I only played about 5-10 hours of Fallout 4. Where as I spent hundreds on 3 and New Vegas. I whopping 15 minutes on 76, despite it being set in my home state of WV.

Is this a new Xbox model bro?

Yes. The latest Xbox models are the Series X and Seris S. I went with the less powerful, digital only, and much cheaper version… the Series S (528 gb).

Wow, I might check that out. Cool high and big space for higher graphic games. Congrats bro. I used to play Xbox Kinect before for minimal exercise like virtual boxing. Hahaha

The Series S is a great console if you’re looking to get into latest-gen gaming at the lowest cost. Finding one used like I did will increase your savings in a big way.

I had a Kinect back in the day. I was so excited when it first came out, but didn’t really use it all that much sadly.

Was never an Xbox guy, but if I had more time to devote to games again…I’d definitely have one as well. One day I’ll have all the systems again. Lol. One day…

It’s been so long since I’ve been an Xbox guy, but it has been simple to reintegrate. I still prefer my PS5, but it’s a treat to also have an Xbox now. There’s only so much time to game in a day though.

Same. I find myself feeling guilty playing games these days. Like I should be doing something better and more productive. I keep telling myself there will be time to gane again down the road. Hopefully. .

I've felt that guilt before in the past. I'm sure it's even more common to feel when you have a wife, kids, and a business. Those are all much more important than some casual gaming enjoyment.

I feel as the older I get, the less “important” games become when compared to other shit I should be doing. But I do miss it and feel “me time” is important as well. Balancing is the key I feel. Something I have not mastered yet.

Oh so you are KrispyKremeKing really!! jajaja 😅 , buying movies and tv series collectibles to review them with profits form my Hive account is actually something I have dream with but for that I guess my account has to grow way more or Hive price skyrocket dramatically, lets see where this next five years take me, so cool to see you are at that point already 😎✌️

Yes indeed. I came up with that name when I was around 12 or 13.
Your account will grow, just keep at it. It took me several years until I first was able to spend any of my earnings on actual real-life things.

Damn, just $150 for a Series S, and already had your brother to share his Xbox Game Pass with you?

You've definitely hit the jackpot with this deal. I had seen an impressive amount of games in Game Pass and had a very small taste of those, but still a varied taste (Halo Infinite, Guilty Gear Strive, Killer Instinct, that Hot Wheels game, Yakuza Like A Dragon, even Jojo Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle R??)- having that subscription with an internet speed that can download the games fast enough must be THE gaming package to have today.

Congratulations!

It consider this one of my better purchases. I got so much for so little. The amount of games I have access to know is insane. My DL speed is around 350mb/s. I’ve also been told you can download to an external hard drive and then just swap them to the onboard SSD at a much quicker rate than downloading.

Congrats man! Nice to see your face live.🤓

Thank you 🙌 I was pretty psyched to finally be able to do this. I used to do videos with my face all of the time, but it's definitely been a bit. Happy to share this video. Thanks for stopping by 🤝

I understand what you're saying, I think getting old consoles at a good price well below their original cost is a very good deal. The X series is a tremendous console and you got it at a bargain price and in very good condition! congratulations, let's see what content you bring us with the console!

I got this thing for 50% off and feel as though that was a large enough discount to finally justify me purchasing a second console.

Nice man. I like having both consoles, especially for the exclusive games that are on each. I’m not a PC gamer either. I prefer chillin on my couch using a controller playing on my big screen.

It’s been really nice finally gaining access to all of the great Xbox titles.
You and I have the same leisurely idea of gaming. I have never been the type to sit at a desk and game. A couch with a big screen is the only thing that feels right to me.

Ya, gaming on the couch and big screen is the way to go. Not cramped to some desk with a small monitor.

If you have never played Hellblade, you should give that a shot. It’s pretty quick to beat it but the second one is releasing soon and it is gonna be epic.

I spent a lot of my childhood gaming in bed. I think I prefer the couch, but both are more comfortable than a desk.

I've got Hellblade on my list to play soon. I'd like to play it before the sequel drops on day 1. Not sure if I'll get that done, but I'll be trying both of them at some point for sure.

That was a nice grab for $150. How I wish I had both the PS5 and Xbox.

It's certainly a luxury to be able to have both consoles. When gaming is one of my favorite things to do, it makes sense for me.

I also want to buy it and play my favorite games but I can't buy it yet due to lack of money.
