My younger brother had a fatal accident On Sunday... After Witnessing A Huge Spending Spree On His Mother's Burial
He was hit by this, Toyota, something..... I cannot remember the car's exact details again, something seemed to have died inside of me since Sunday, maybe it's retentive memory or maybe I just can't be detailing due to the trauma, and physical and emotional stress. The driver was an apprentice of the owner, he was trying to make some extra money with the car that Sunday by doing some side hustle with the car given to him for service. The downside is, that he was on the wrong lane throughout while doing some crazy speed.
My brother was on top of a motorcycle with his cousin on mainland Lagos. While the motorcycle was on the right way, he never suspected that a crazy driver was speeding and coming through the wrong way, that we're hit atrociously with a bang, the car crushed the rider of the motorcycle to death, while hitting another passerby to the back of another vehicle, the victim died instantly, the Impact threw my brother to a moving tricycle, he handed hard and sustained a double fracture, multiple injuries to the leg, face, and toes while fainting instantly from the impact.
His cousin on the other hand had already jumped out from the moving motorcycle, apparently, she had anticipated the crash because she was sitting at the back of my brother, the impact she had was lesser, she had no fractures or breaks, and sustained a little sprain to the back of her leg alone.
(The power of anticipation can salvage a situation, she didn't just manage to save her life, she saved any potential spending, in this inflated Nigeria where doctors are sworn to serve money)
My brother's cousin's mother, (his aunt) is a radical woman, her swift call to action is probably why my brother got stabilized and didn't lose his life from the shock. They were taken to the hospital and after all that crazy bureaucracy, they finally said they needed to operate on the damaged hand so that it could heal properly. They demand approximately
$2000 to get the surgery done.
This was humongous, these were medical personnel who were sworn to serve humanity, but they were merchandising the intensity of people's illnesses to make crazy money. It's why some of them cannot work overseas. Because they've mortgaged their services to only rich people and even if they're going to still earn their monthly salaries, they'd still want to exploit people for their gains.
We heard originally that the surgery shouldn't be more than $1000, but here, they doubled the price.....so,
We're looking for a different hospital to get the surgery done and at the moment, we've gone to the police station, the crazy driver has been locked and the family of the young man is saying they do not have any money for damages.....
Scenes from the police station
In reality, I was talking about the power of anticipation...
........anticipation is a gift, some people call it pessimism, but it isn't.. sometimes feeling that something bad might happens keeps us tethered rather than taking uncalculated risks... I've been battling anemia all my life, if there's one thing it's taught me, it's that one must anticipate exhaustion, and take precautionary measures in other to keep going*
My younger brother has his faults, he's a 23-year-old young businessman who just returned from burying his mother, and since he's been back, he's been going on tour, traveling crazy distances every week to meet and greet people he calls his friends and not even business acquaintances
he abandoned his business for the week to go see his cousin, and they were cruising all around town and having fun when the accident happened.
He's been there through the week before, spent five days, locked up his business, and chose pleasure over everything. Whilst we cannot predict or foresee the future, we mustn't further take irrational actions to strengthen the uncertainty that comes with it, this is probably a valuable lesson a vibrant and stubborn young man has to learn battling pain and gore...

Damn! Two lives were lost at that spot of the accident. This is why I take it that the problem with this country is not just with the leaders, but with all of us; the leaders and the followers. How can you be speeding so fast, even not in your lane? How did he get to that lane in the first place? I just cannot imagine it. And now, he has claimed the lives of two innocent individuals that have families to either cater to, or simply be around for.
Thank goodness for your brother and cousin. They may have been off track and that put them in harm's way, but at least it is not a different story you are telling today. Your cousin had anticipated the crash and got herself out quickly enough. Your brother, on the other hand, may have anticipated the crash, but did not have enough time to escape, as he was in the middle. But all the same, he managed to be alive. Thank God!
I still do not understand how some people can still have the heart to exploit people in matters concerning life and death. Yes, there should be charges, but how can you have the consciousness to double the price? It is totally
unfairwicked. With all the expenditure made recently, there is now this one to deal with. It is a really rough time for you, brother. But it will pass. Sorry about everything that has happened, man.
The thing is, going to mainland Lagos is what I avoid at all cost. I had an accident as an 8 year old.. it took like 4 months to heal, and I saw the trauma I caused my parents due to my carelessness since then, I avoid busy places with fast cars and many lanes unless it's totally compulsory.
Man's gotta be wiser and careful. As I am, I'm managing my life with great care, I think we all should have that level of responsibility even if God is the ultimate protector.
I'm hoping he can learn because he's put the family in debt with travels that should have been avoided. Youthful exhuberance.
This is one of the reasons I do not like to travel much. I mean, you are most likely going to survive a road accident if you do not even leave your house in the first place.
Man really has to be careful. We do have the almighty looking after us, but it is our part to be responsible.
I sure know that he would learn and should do better henceforth. It is only sad that he had to go through this to learn.

Thanks @shortsegments I totally appreciate it.
I'm really happy your brother managed to make it out alive. And my heart goes out to the bike man who lost his life, I just wish and hope Justice will be served in his case as well.
That's the dish a lawless country always serves her citizens - heartbreaks.
All will be well! Your brother will regain his health. At least, he should learn and move along with the new experiences!
Take good care mate, and take care of everyone.
Just try to make sure you leave the blame games for now, I understand it's annoying when people won't make right decisions, but moving around could be his only defence mechanism to deal with the loss of his mum.
I think the family of the bike person have come to take the body, it's crazy how these things happens. Nigeria is a country where we all must strive to be safe because the system is too porous to be dependent on. Thanks a million.
You're welcome bro.

Absolutely

Damn, how can someone be driving speed in another lane? I'm sure that dude didn't attend driving school.
This year is really crazy for you bro. Bad news all the time. Not quite long your mum was buried now this just came up. Well, thank God he didn't lost his life.
Mehn, $2000 for surgery? That's over #1.2m.
Really sad to hear that. I wish his quick recovery.
Yeah it's been a mad year, I didn't anticipate this at all, I'm grateful for people who came through, I have to start thinking of what to seriously do about finances, these are expenses that can kill a person...
This is a trying time. I hope you get over it soonest. Stay strong bro.

Ah!!! Indeed anticipation is a gift, I want to thank God that your brother didn't loss his life and your cousin too. This highway is always filled with people who do not know anything about the road or even vehicle.
Nobody is ready to learn anything, they just want to be professional drivers at the cost of their lives. It's so sad that some people lost their lives, may their soul rest in peace.
It's always normal for doctors to always bill their patients based on the gravity of the situation and that's not how it should be but they will say that's how they feed, really so heartbreaking and they call themselves lifesavers and people die everyday and they just sit and watch them 🤦♀️😩.
Every vehicle on the road is out to knock one down, this is why I don't like busy roads. Mainland Lagos is probably the busiest place I've been to, the myriad of cars are too many. Going to a place like this needs one to be extra careful. Unfortunately my brother wasn't lucky, it's a place I dread going to because let's be factual 50% of Lagos drivers are there to maim people and break the law
I've always heard that Lagos is a really busy place and from what you've said, there are even some places that are even more busier than normal, it is well 😪.
Hmmmm
I am deeply sorry for what you and your family are going through now over your brother's accident. I wish we could predict the future, he could have jejely gone back to his shop after the burial but then, the deed has been done.
That's a huge amount of money for the surgery🤭, I hope you guys could get a cheaper hospital that can still offer good treatment. That's our Naija for you but it's well, we will survive this hardship Gods willing.
I wish your brother a divine healing 🙏
He basically opened himself up for that accident to happen, while God is the ultimate protector, we mustn't test fate. It's an expensive country to live in and that's why we must make smart decisions and tough choices, as even make sacrifices too... He's feeling young, I hope he'd learn after this.

This whole situation is monumentally fucked up from start to finish :(
After reading the headline and opening the blog thinking the worst, I'm at least happy to hear your bro is (somewhat) okay.
All the best to you and the family.
Stay strong mate.

Thanks you're right, it's a messed up situation and the reason is because of how crazy it's been for the past two months, lost my mum and had my brother involved in a ghastly accident in less than 6 weeks, it brings this deja u feeling. Thanks a million. For the concern.
This is by no means an accident! An accident is something that is unexpected to happen. Driving any vehicle without proper training (and even with a proper training if you counter-flow) is expected to bring a disaster.
The owner of the vehicle should be charged and held accountable too. He knows that the one going to operate his vehicle have no proper training and still give him the keys.
I am very sorry for what happened to your cousin and all the victims of this outrageous disaster. I can only hope that your cousin, and those injured, would recover soon and my deepest condolences for the families who lost their love ones.
!1UP
Well my brother sustained a double fracture and his cousin sustained a sprain, when it involves surgery, it becomes problematic to a fault.
In Nigeria people get away with a lot of things especially if you're rich and can settle the police, it takes an influential car owner to get away with a crime because they can bribe the police.
Ohh. I misunderstood a bit and thought it was your cousin. Sorry about that.
That's way too unfortunate. I wonder how this people (the rich and the police) could sleep at night. And the ordinary people too, I wonder what kind of thoughts you are thinking given how messed up the place you are in.
Oh the police sleeps quite well knowing they'll wake up very rich as well. So the thoughts of being rich often takes away the guilty feeling of being corrupt.
Sorry to hear that and hopefully he will push through and come to better terms from this experience. Such things make us see life differently and imprint a new behavior in our minds, wish him and you all the best and much health.

You're right, such things makes us see life differently, it's crazy, but I sometimes these things happens no matter how careful you are.
Oh my goodness! This is so sad to hear... Glad your brother managed to escape death.
Doctors with their prices to save lives, something needs to be done... I'm sure a lot of people have given up on their person just because of doctor's demand, too bad.
I've always thought of anticipation in this way so I totally agree with you... I only wish to be more like that than act recklessly, that is more dangerous and full uncertainties.
My heart goes out to those who lost their lives and also to you and the others who will bear the money spending to get your brother back to himself again.
Be strong!
Thank you
The truth is, anticipation is a very good survival skill in all ramifications, I think sometimes some people have it better, some people develop their own way more better than the others, but generally this is a skill that must be alert, I basically think we can do well to be better when it comes to it.
Thanks a million for your well wishes.
Yeah, I agree with you
You're welcome
What an idiot that fucker driving the car this way. I hate driving fast in town. I do speed once in a while outside town, but it gets me triggered when I see such morons killing innocent people.
Well, the system isn't more fine-tuned to punishing reckless drivers, I think it's more or less like, "no one is a saint" kind of situation in Nigeria.
I am really sorry to hear about the accident. The pain of accident is one thing and the pain that the family pass through in search of the cure is yet another tragedy.
I wish the country like ours may find more humans in the body of the man. Everyone is in the race of earning more and more without taking care of the condition of other.
Anticipation is a gift but sometimes it proves only to be a guess formed out of fear. In that case it stops us from experiencing what we could other wise. There is no measurement criteria for distinguishing between the two.
Wish you and your brother good luck and sound life a head.
Thanks for the well wishes, I couldn't angry more. I think we learn our lesson everyday.... The hard way sticks more.
The hard way sticks more.... that's true 😔
I am really sorry to hear about your brother, but on the positive side,at least he is alive.
$2000 is crazy money!
That is one good thing about the UK is our free medical and health system and yet people here still moan about it. I tell them to go see the cost of health care in other countries that soon shuts them up.
As for the speeding driver in the other lane, I hope they threw the book at him.
The same thing happened to my aunt in Scotland, she was injured for a long time. However, because the driver was a tourist, he just left the country without punishment!

This is true, but healthcare in Nigeria is like oil money for most healthcare workers and some greedy doctors too. They take advantage of being who are desperate to be be rid of their ailments.
I'm hoping my brother will get this period to reflect on life and take a different turn this period.
Thanks for your well wishes.
Well let's hope that your brother snaps out of it, and gets his life up and running on a proper track!

It's a whole lot bro, it's saddening, but what can we do
I am glad your brother is alive. God forbid that two lives will be lost within a short period of time.
I agree with you that the leaders aren't the only problem. Change begins with everyone of us.
Speed recovery to your bro
