Your fingerprints are all over me

At first I thought, this post would be too cliché...

-but there are reasons why clichés fit so well. They are rooted in the truths that are recognized, and resonate. I decided to take the leap and write my heart. It takes a bit of courage to do that well, without any shade of retreat or flinching. I can only promise I will keep writing until it is finished. Complete? Maybe not. Finished, yes.

"This too shall pass." - multiple origins

One of my favorites that I hate to speak. Speaking these words usually mean you're in the midst of suffering, but the reality is, everything eventually ends. Hidden in this common mantra is a sparkle of hope for a better day.

"The grass is always green on the other side." - old proverb, multiple adaptations.

Terrible saying, because it's just so true. Human hearts rarely find contentment in their own backyard. I say rarely because there are a select few who have discovered the beauty and wisdom in finding their heart's sweet spot in their own surroundings. The rest of us? Gazing through that fence, tongues lolling, craving and longing for what "they" have. If only we could satiate ourselves with the pastures before us.

And now, the best of all. I'm not sure if qualifies as a cliché, or just a saying as it's been edited fairly recently - but if I were to get a tattoo, this would cover my entire body.

"Jesus loves you, but I'm His Favorite." - portion by Susan Warner, edit- unknown.

It's bold, brazen, and hilariously cheeky. Best of all, it's true. It is absolutely true. I don't know why I'm His Favorite. I just am. Don't get angry with me, just take it up with Him, ok?

The place I heard this phrase first was falling from the lips of a dear friend of mine. Though he thoroughly believed that it applied to him, it simply didn't. This brand was mine, all mine. We laughed as we argued our undeniable proof that we were the obvious choice of His favor, but in the end we walked away giggling still, and both claiming the title. Somehow, we were both right. 'Tis a mystery.

Critics of my Jesus will of course question why anyone would even want to be His Favorite since it seems the ones He truly favors live through some harrowing experiences. Anyone who has known me long and deeply enough will hear my own share of horrors. The question then becomes, "Oh yeah? Where was Jesus when..."

Maybe you don't know me or care to, but you have seen enough of this world to doubt that any loving God could allow things to happen to the least of these. And the question still resounds and charges, "So where was your Jesus when..."

I'll tell you a story to answer that, but before I do, I will preface it by saying some will agree, some will disagree, and that is perfectly fine. This post is my tribute and it is given in love and peace and joy. Please be respectful of this community and this post. If you've already had your anger stirred, I will gently encourage you to proceed no further and find another post that you can enjoy. For those who would like to continue, hold on. It's going to get a little bit darker before the dawn.

I've kept a part of my recent life on the quieter side. Our project needed "more" and I don't like being dependent on investors or risk the temptation of compromise in order to "keep money flowing". I would rather watch something die with integrity than grow with disgrace. Long story short, I trained others to take care of the day to day activities and sought work in the "real world".

Money. Is it ever enough? It feels like it is never enough but I wasn't just asking for money in my prayers. I was asking for the "perfect job". Time is more valuable than money and always will be. I wanted something worth my time. Something extraordinary. Something meaningful.

After months of looking, and potential connections falling through, I started to get discouraged. That was the day that a new love blossomed in my heart. I will call him Peter, to protect his identity as the investigation into his little life is still underway.

When Peter was newborn, the parent taking care of him was busy playing games. Peter's cries were typical of an infant and so the only solution that presented itself to Peter's parent was to shake Peter until he stopped.

Peter indeed stopped. Stopped so much that he had to be rushed to the hospital where he stayed for months. Do you know how hard you have to shake a baby to detach his retinas from his eyes? Neither do I, and I never want to know.

Years have passed and though doctors said he would never be anything more than a vegetable, never walk, never talk, never see... he is a miracle in the making. And my job and lifesong is to be a part of that. I get to use all that I have learned along my journey and apply it to this little life. Everything that has happened in our collective lives and our victories and failures and weaknesses and strengths are being used together with his family into a miracle of connection and strength, unity and compassion, as we quite literally battle the evil that has been inflicted on this precious angel.

So the answer to the question, "So where was Jesus when..."

He was busy taking the frayed edges of a tapestry that we humans have done our best to destroy, and He is continuously weaving the tattered threads of broken hearts back into something new and even more beautiful. Beauty can rise from the ashes, and when it does, it's even more glorious and unbelievably magnificent.

So, I've never seen Him, but I know Him and His fingerprints are all over me. He has changed me into who I am today and though it's been with trials and suffering, I couldn't and wouldn't change a thing. I am because He always will be.

You might think, "I thought this was supposed to be a tribute? Where is the tribute?" Oh, it's in every line of everything I write. I can assure you it's permeating every word here as well.

I would admit that I'd never heard that saying before. "Jesus loves you, but I'm His favourite."
But rest assured, that it's my new mantra for life.
I don't doubt that a lot of people have questions and would be condescending and maybe even see our belief as a wild good chase.
But that's okay, not everyone has to see. But I have seen, in the rawest and truest of ways, His love towards me. It's unexplainable, unimaginable, undiluted Love.
I just woke up from sleep after pouring out my heart with a close friend of mine and I'm so happy that this was the first post I saw. It's a testimony of His love for us. And I know in my heart, that no matter the challenges and the obstacles I have to go through everyday, this too shall pass.

Hehe..proves that indeed the words of our mind are priceless.... Said without flinching.

This too shall pass
Reminds me of our favourite and most used sentence whenever we are writing our professional exams and yes... There's always a motivational boost and hope that comes alongside saying this word.

Can I take the favourite spot from you because I think I'm also Jesus's favourite, hehehe
