Made a fun thing last night... a little alo g the lines of a Cajun dish, sort of! It was delicious.

Sausage, diced tomatoes, diced zucchini, rice and pork broth!

This looks like a delicious sauce for rice. Thanks for sharing. Cooking is fun and it's always good to try out new things.

I don't see zucchini in my location, but I can use cucumber as a substitute.

!summarize

Hey @askrafiki, this is a food talk threadcast about all things food. So, kindly give me the best French toast recipe? I need it sweet and a bit savory, highly flavourful and making its final taste hit rightly.

Thanks.

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 8 thick slices brioche bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
  • Savory twist: 1/4 tsp smoked paprika + 2 tbsp grated Parmesan

Steps:

  1. Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, paprika, and Parmesan in a shallow bowl.
  2. Soak bread slices 1-2 min per side until saturated.
  3. Heat butter in skillet over medium. Cook 2-3 min per side until golden.
  4. Serve with maple syrup, berries, and bacon bits for sweet-savory balance.

Hits sweet from sugar/vanilla, savory from paprika/cheese. Adjust spices for flavor punch.

What's an alternative for brioche bread?

Challah bread is a top alternative to brioche—it's eggy, slightly sweet, and holds up well when soaked. For a savorier option, try thick-cut white sandwich bread or Hawaiian rolls. Avoid denser loaves like sourdough to keep the custard soak effective.
