WE80 post topics: Your childhood memories

Forty is the old age of youth; fifty the youth of old age.

- Victor Hugo -

I've shared a few stories from my youth on Hive over the years, most of which are a tragic but funny account of how I managed to hurt myself. I always got back up though, dusted off, and kept being the knucklehead I was as a kid. I survived my youth and the intervening years until now and look back on those days with a wry smile and great fondness; who I was then, and what I learned, shaped me into the man I am now. original im src

I'll share three of my stories here for you in case you want to laugh at my expense. The Cyclops in which I almost get hurt, Ball Sports in which I do, and finally The Pegasus Bike in which I definitely do! I hope you enjoy them if you have a read.

This week, I've got a set of topics that I hope will bring out some good stories for y'all to think about, hopefully fun times, good memories and enjoyable moments. 💎This week's topic(s) 💎

🔹Option one 🔹

What happy or valued childhood moment is your go-to or the first you think of when reminiscing about the fun times you had as a child or youth. What was the moment, where did it happen, what happened in it and why is it so memorable?

🔹Option two🔹

Tell us about an embarrassing, funny or awkward moment you had as a child - You don't have to have gotten hurt like me of course. What happened, why did it happen, what resulted from the event and was their any lasting implications

🔹Option three🔹

Tell us, if you dare, a naughty or mischievous moment from your childhood - Explain what you did, what the event was, how it worked out, what trouble you got into and all the juicy details - Don't say anything that may get you in trouble with the police. 😁

🔹Option four🔹

Is there a moment in time, in your childhood, you would like to go back to and re-live again? Please tell us about the moment and why you'd like to live it again, why was it so special to you?

🔹Option five🔹

Did you have a secret hideaway, in reality or your imagination, to which you'd escape from the world around you and play? Did you have a fantasy world of your own creation, an imaginary friend or some such thing? If you're keen share it with us please do so.

No time to jot down all the crazies done during the years, been a rough week!

Will visit some who have as always, have a great new week and always have a good laugh at yourself, it sure is healthy.

I hope things are moving in the right direction.

Me too, have a great week!

Nice I was able to come across this contest, I will gladly come in

Cool.

Actually very memorable in childhood, a lot of shocking moments there, even dealing with the authorities hahahah but it was only a temporary punishment but it's really funny when I think about it again. this is the topic of recycling my childhood.. 😂🤣🥰

Let's see what you come up with.

This is genius.

I like option 4 and 5.
I usually look back at childhood as an order of events and stories. I remember falling down the stairs at my grandmother's apartment. I remember holding her hand and walking to the zoo. I remember going to the movie theater. I remember fire works. I remember sitting in the car for hours. I remember watching adults get drunk and talk on forever.

I remember escaping to play with other kids. I remember fighting and running off to some place. But I usually don't think about those times I was alone as a child. The worlds I had created were immense and avenues out of a painful reality. I keep most of those memories hidden all those things away. Perhaps it won't do much harm to open a few doors again and get a glimpse of how little Mineopoly had perceived his own little world. It may be good for a little therapy on my part.

Thanks !BEER

I reckon little Moneopoly would have been a rascally little bugger, but a bit of a thinker also. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I'm gonna have think on this one. The art of writing is to narrow something down to one clear moment. After so much leading up and description leading the reader to just the right feeling then I give it a twist.

Do enjoy your weekend. I'm taking this task as a homework assignment. Thanks for posting it.

!LUV

Feel no obligation although you always write well and with interest so I'd love to see a post.

Have a great weekend!

Oh, secret Santa was today...I'll do a post over the weekend. Lol.

Thank you. It's fun... but time to get some rest !LOL

Why does Davy Jones never bend his knees?
Cause they're always Kraken

@galenkp, I sent you an $LOLZ on behalf of @mineopoly
Use the !LOL or !LOLZ command to share a joke and an $LOLZ. (1/6)

It seems we had very similar chain of thoughts upon reading the options for this weeks topic. Yes, there are times borne out of, (as you say) "painful reality" that we do not visit often. Sometimes they pop up in a daydream out of nowhere and transport us back and it could almost feel like it happened to someone else.

Over the last 20 years or so, since I begun to get older, lose people who were important to me and my daughters grew into adults, I learned that yes, opening doors can be cathartic, but I highly recommend only opening one at a time, I learned that one from bad experience lol.

So many of the kind of light-hearted memories you mentioned, seemingly insignificant are actually the most important moments of our past:

I remember holding her hand and walking to the zoo.

Priceless!

Oh and yes by the way... Just children and dogs! 😏

... and sometimes me!

Hey @galenkp, here is a little bit of BEER from @mineopoly for you. Enjoy it!

Is there a moment in time, in your childhood, you would like to go back to and re-live again?

In fact lot of memories, that makes me feel like I should go back in time - you gave some nice choice - I will compile one.

I'm looking forward to it!

Oh my I think it's time to dust off an embarasing memory... It involves a giant pile of shit...

Giant pile of shit? What could possibly go wrong?

I mean really, who doesn't like a giant pile of shit?

Is it in a cave? :) Could color my appreciation, you know...

Haha it is not in a cave, though I did once encounter a large turd when I was crawling through a cave downside was that because of the humidity and lack of moving air the turd stays forever wet and fresh. However, that was not in my childhood...

Dust it off and embarrass yourself!

Beautiful options, with that option two, I think is time I share the story behind the scars on my left arm. The unspoken and embarrassing moment of my childhood but now seems very funny to me.

Scars can make for good stories, I have a few of my own, but yes, often they are painful ones. Join in this week if you like or take a break - No pressure.

I'm definitely joining this week to share it, thank you for always giving us this opportunity to tell our story.

Yay!

Gosh, I've already done the shoved an eraser up my nose story, I'll have to think of something else... that might have been the only thing worth recounting though.. that won't get me into trouble!!

Hmm, you're going to have to come up with another story...Or just stick an eraser up your nose again and recreate the magic.

that might have been the only thing worth recounting though.. that won't get me into trouble!!

You have my full permission to incriminate yourself.

Haha..I was blessed with a happy childhood which makes boring reading. Although it might be fun to write something this wkd.. it's going to be hot today so I imagine I'll be inside this arvo trying to stay alive... good time to write!

Write...You'll enjoy the process better than melting.

When my mom was about 10 she stuck a cap from a tube of ointment up her nose and then nobody could get it out. Grandma detailed her oldest sister to walk her to the doctor (right in the depression). The sister told my mom that she had to walk precisely 4 paces behind her. Far enough that nobody would think they were together but close enough to not be considered lost.

The best part of that story was hearing the two sisters recount it from their own perspective 75 years later :)

Oh goodness, were they laughing hysterically aa they told it? That's a delightful story!!!! Children do strange things with their noses...

Interesting post

Haha this was quite easy. Something popped up in my head immediately so I was able to write it quick. 😂

Here's my entry

Hola! Impressive all these topics each week, one after the other with multiple options even. I woulda ran outta ideas around week 3. Bravo sir.

4: I would've been a cheerleader dammit!! Can't believe I laughed at those dudes when the whole time joke was on me.

Like the guy in my class that played clarinet? HE KNEW!

Tom feels my pain. I can feel it.

Thanks mate, I try to come up with something interesting that everyone can get involved with. I sometimes struggle for a topic that is interesting/generic/achievable for all - I hope I hit the mark most times.

Oh yeah, those cheerleader fellows...I was more the guy out on the field laying smackdowns and running the ball...Joke was on me too dude.

🔹Option three🔹
Tell us, if you dare, a naughty or mischievous moment from your childhood - Explain what you did, what the event was, how it worked out, what trouble you got into and all the juicy details - Don't say anything that may get you in trouble with the police. 😁

🤣🤣It was a naughty and mischievous character to do what I did as a child. Read up the details here:

https://peakd.com/hive-168869/@mrenglish/an-awkward-journey-through-bed-wetting-or-we80-your-childhood-memories

The initiative is truly sympathetic.

I would like to ask you a question @galenkp.

Does the post have to be a story or can it be a souvenir with pictures of a holiday somewhere?

Regards.

Well, I'd never curate just pictures, but if there's some explanation involved, some clarification, then it would be ok. Just follow the guidelines and topic option and you'll be fine.

Hmmmm. How about moments that I can't believe happened? I wish I had pics.
I have so many moments, but thinking about expanding on just one......

That works. Pictorial evidence is always good, but just work around that.

You have some interesting topics about childhood memories. I have a lot of childhood memories like any other normal person so I have chosen the happy memories. Thank you.

Thank you.

Let me get right to it. I hope it interests you a little. Thanks for another great topics, sir.

Are you also the Galenkp on Twitter?

I am not on Twitter. I'm too busy with living my best life to waste time looking at other people's pretend ones.

Hahahaha. That's true. Twitter is wild. I mostly promote my write ups there and then leave too. So many pretentiousness there.

I don't need to promote mine...The only person I need to like them is me. But I know what you mean.

Hahaha that's fair enough. 😊☺️

Too many choises, omg, now im rolling to join this one, for good yes or yes -:D

Yay!

@galenkp, I'm sorry, I think I moved away from a 'fun' memory - although to be honest, I just think of how lucky I am to have a family that ate together, loved together, listened to music together. I started with this idea and the dining room table and all the little memories of the house in St Albans, in Melbourne's western suburbs, but it ended up being tied to the death of John Lennon. I hope it counts. I enjoyed writing about it on this hot afternoon, though it's rather melancholy. I think it's the mood I'm in, thinking about those parents in Tasmania. So I can say 'enjoy' but I'm not sure it's the right word for it.

https://peakd.com/hive-168869/@riverflows/on-childhood-memory-where-i-was-when-i-heard-the-news

Hey, you know it's going to count; always does. I'm conditioned to you doing your own thing and I know it all comes from the heart so that counts a lot. I have seen it there, will read shortly.

I definitely want to participate. While reading the rules, I saw do not cross post. Can someone explain what that means?

Self cross posting is against my community rules so please do not do it. If you do not know what it is then I guess you won't.

Self cross posting is when you cross post your own post to multiple communities which is not really seen as legitimate.

Okay, thanks!

Remembering my childhood has been wonderful. Here is my entry. Happy weekend to all of you.

I want to take this week's challenge, but I don't have any of my childhood photos, they were all lost when we moved house 20 years ago😞😞😞

Bummer. You could select a single stock image that relates though.

Hi! This is my entry this week. https://ecency.com/hive-168869/@trangtran23/my-great-moment-in-childhood
Wish you have a great day 🥰

Am confused small
In the weekend's topic( those options will be in one Post ?

That's is beautiful

Please how can I get topics for this week?
Am a novice

Is this a joke question?

Read this post you responded to!

Okay sir
Let me read it well

Thank you for this, it brought back some fun and embarrassing memories, and I am loving reading the childhood memories of people.

You're very welcome.

Great topic, yet I think another one that I will sit out and rather read others stories.

My childhood was pretty boring, normal, uneventful - the memories I have are events that would not make a good story for me to write or for others to read.

Thanks ok, not all the topics will appeal to all people. You might like the next though.

You know that I'll be looking forward to it!

Hint: It is creativity oriented. But shh, tell no one. 😊

Of course not - shhhh - all silent here - zip 🤐

HELLOOOO WORLD! HAVE YOU HEARD THAT - oops, okay, all good now 😜

Shh!

I survived my youth and the intervening years until now and look back on those days with a wry smile and great fondness; who I was then, and what I learned, shaped me into the man I am now.

I'm glad you learned G-dog, I would hate it if you'd have become the kinda guy who would take a leaf blower up onto the roof, right? right? Imagine the kind of guy you would have been without this learning? You could be a complete reprobate or a refuse-to-learn fool who would play Russian roulette with a tart of questionable Portuguese heritage.

Fabulous topic, one that seemed simple and light at first but the thoughts that came unbidden, upon reflection, were actually quite profound. I went with the the recollections that transported me back to oh-so-simple times and wrote from the heart, unchecked, and didn't over-edit myself or choose my words from my head too much as I believe I would have lost some authenticity that way.

I have met a couple of cool people this weekend whom I didn't really know before so all in all I am very grateful for the chance to reflect.

Take good care of you and your lovely lady and have a fab festive week Galen 🙂

Lol...The great leaf blower on roof episode of 2021. Ah yes, how the memories of the pain and humiliation flood back. Good times. Good times.

Russian Roulette with a Portuguese tart...I'm all for multiculturalism you know.

Thanks for your kind words and I'm glad it prompted you to get involved. I wrote my own 1800 words this week also mate, and it was nice to reflect and remember that place Is created as a nine year old. I was on a roof...No garden blower in those occasions though.

Loading...

I hope you find mine really interesting and funny lol...I have never said that to anyone lol...
am so embarrassed to say that but easier to right hehehe

Wishing you all in Weekend Community an awesome and wonderful Holidays and may all your dreams and wishes come true. Merry Christmas to you all.

Hello, sir @galenkp. If it's about my childhood topic, of course, I want it. But how about the photos as proof of the truth of the story that has happened ? Is it allowed to upload pictures when I was a teenager, but I don't know if the photos have been posted on other social media ? and of course it will be difficult to find a source one by one. While here not allowed to upload without a source. Thanks for your consideration and answer. Blessing.

I always prefer to see people use their own pictures but if stock images are used I don't like to see more than one. Make sure you credit your source. Your profile says photography so I'm sure you have some pictures.

I will try to find it again first, because most of the memorable pictures were lost including my house when the Tsunami disaster on December 26, 2004 in Aceh. I will try and will participate in this episode. Thank you sir. Blessing
