Theists love to debate using DEISTIC arguments.
The "intelligent-design" case is the most prominent example of this.
The "logically necessary" prime-mover/sustainer is another.
But theists are unable to draw a straight line from DEISM to their specific god(s).
Atheists often fight tooth-and-claw against these DEISTIC tactics, but I would suggest they should stop fighting and embrace DEISM.
Because DEISTIC god(s) are functionally indistinguishable from no-god(s).
DEISM is functionally identical to ATHEISM.
Let's say, for example, that we found indisputable scientific evidence that life on planet Earth was created by Promethean gods. Intelligently designed.
This "fact" does absolutely nothing to inform our daily lives.
This "fact" does absolutely nothing to inform our system of government, our laws, or our sense of morality.
Basically, we're back to square-one.

What if those annunaki overlords that programmed us to be something, had more success if their progeny knew their purpose? Or maybe not.

Excellent point. We are still collecting quite a bit of gold, we're even keeping it safe in safes. Perhaps the gods will stop by in a few thousand years (or tomorrow!) and thank us all for doing such fine work before absconding with all the precious metals!!

Yes, generally, the single-minded tends to eradicate any "unpredictable" variables, labeling them at a minimum "pointless distractions" and tend to leap to the conclusion they are "rouge elements" if not explicitly "saboteurs".

Well stated. I agree that we are all somewhat fluid in our "self identification schema". Another way of expressing your terminology might be "skeptical-free-thinker" (scientist).
As humans we always build on our three basic impulses (1) protect yourself (2) protect your family (3) protect your property.

Words are fluid.
Words only have "meaning" in context.
Imagine that each person is a universe unto themselves.
Each person is a country unto themselves.
Each person speaks a unique language.
Each person has their own dictionary.
For example, in modern day India, there are over 19,569 spoken languages (sometimes called "dialects" but many people consider most of these "dialects" incomprehensible).
Just dial this down to the individual.
Each and every person learns words slightly differently than others.
If you want to communicate effectively, you must be sensitive to the subtle linguistic variations specific to that person.
