Follow Friday - Almost out of Steem

in #hive4 years ago

Hey, hey, it's Friday! In a time of lockdown there are less things to look forward to at the weekend, but I know restrictions are being lifted in various places. Just take care as the pandemic is still out there.

Later today I will have my last big power down of Steem. I will still have some there are will consider what to do with that. I will be using my Steem to buy more HIVE, but I may spend a little. Some of my @splinterlands cards need upgrading. I have no real reason to keep going back to Steem, especially as they censored my account. That is such a petty action considering that I have promoted the platform for years and am no threat to them.

I learned this week about the @swap.app service that will instantly convert either way between Steem and HIVE for a reasonable fee. I have already used it.

Let us concentrate on Hive. Both the main sites are showing good growth. My preference is for PeakD, but having choices is good.

Stats

I created Hive accounts for a couple of people today when they responded to my offer to do so on Twitter. They are not active yet, but I hope they will be soon.

I have some #FollowFriday selections who are new to Hive and could do with some support.

Please make them all welcome.

The Doghouse

I have a shortage of candidates for this category, but I welcome suggestions. I am going to feature someone who may be considered an edge case and I leave it to you to decide what support he deserves on Hive.

@shortsegments is posting several times each day and gets reasonable rewards, if little engagement. I have noticed he is converting a fair bit of Hive to Steem recently, but previously he moved thousands of Hive to the @steem-tokens account. Is that an exchange?

Transfers

Over on Steem has about twice as much SP as HP, so I assume he powered up by selling Hive. He is a heavy bid-bot user there with 100 Steem bids on many of his posts. Some of the posts are the same on both platforms. I am assuming his posts are original, but few seem to read them. Engagement on Steem is pretty low generally.

Perhaps he wants to let us know his feelings about the two platforms. I am not downvoting him, but he will not get votes from me when I have more worthy people to support.

Closing Thoughts

I Tweeted a request for recommendations of good resources for new Hive users. Some that came back were:

New users ought to be directed to such resources as some will give up quickly if they struggle. When I create an account for someone they need to change the keys. I think you have to do that on Hive Wallet. Videos may be a good educational tool. Having a set of links in one place will be convenient to direct new users to. Suggestions welcome.

Hive five!

Thanks for the mention. Also, there is a Hive Beginner Tips community where a lot of these guides are: https://peakd.com/c/hive-198524/created

Last powerdown and transfer today! All the SP has been turned into HP here... now it's just time to move forward with this community.

@steem-tokens is the Steem Engine exchange wallet.

Ah, so possibly exchanging for Steem on there. I can't keep track of everything.

Yeah, most likely. When I've gone the reverse route of Steem to Hive it's gone through that same account.

Glad you're nearly all out of STEEM now, another week for me and then I'm closing off that chapter!

Moved 1/3 to HIVE, the rest is recouped investment money back to BTC as I am dangerously close to 1 BTC hodling now. Think I'll just buy up the rest over the weekend to make it over the top and then that'll be one goal accomplished! Next is Orca on Hive so will exchange the rest of STEEM over to Hive most likely to help with that.

Saw rogerfreedom's post earlier and said hello, good to see another DJ get involved here!

I was thinking that I have over one Bitcoin in Hive, but I'm happy enough with that. At least I can actually do something with my Hive. There are not many coins where you can help others whilst earning from what I can see.

Yeah me too with Hive and I never thought I'd say that!

For me, having BTC is basically my statement saying I don't trust the bank with my money - I've been absolutely merked by those bastards this past month, don't ever do an ISA transfer request between banks, you'll be stuck in a never ending loop.

So keeping 1 BTC as my cash reserve and all the Hive I have I basically delegate out to projects that distribute rewards to authors creating content that has been reviewed. Just leaving enough in my account to post and comment with basically! I'm a red fish dolphin lol

As long as you HP is going some good it's okay. Manually curating can be hard work.

Yeah I wouldn't delegate out if I didn't know or trust the intentions of those who have my HP but there is no real risk as I can just pull delegations if I become aware of any foul play.

I've always said I'm shit at manually curating haha! Takes some dedicated effort to be good at it and have a passion for it so full respect to every one who does

Curating takes time and there are other things we want to do.

Yeah for sure, it's why I call myself the "part timer" haha!

I did just buy and power up another 1600 HIVE or so and will hopefully nab the rest on my final STEEM power down in a couple of days. Moving some to BTC but the rest will go on HIVE and delegate to the worthwhile curation projects!

Neat being mentioned here, thanks. Writing the vocab 101 post helped me; maybe it"'ll help someone else too.

Yeah, when people come into hive, and they are not properly oriented or guided. There is high possibilities they won't stay long because, it's quite hard to survive here without proper guidance.

I have been in that position before, first was when I joined steem in 2018, it was not easy as I didn't understand much about steem so I backed up without growing my account.

I heard of hive, and since previously having a steem account means you also have hive. I decided to continue with my hive account but this time was determined not to back out. Fortunate for me, I was able to grow to 100HP within 3weeks of joining hive. It's not an easy journey that's why I am helping people I bring in to a stage where there can survive the lows of hive. Anyway, I know there are still better days ahead.

Thanks for mentioning me on your post. 🤗

Those of us who bring in new users need to help them out. Those first few weeks can be frustrating as you find your way. People should not be discouraged by low rewards. Those come by building connections.

The reason why new users get discouraged by low rewards because they are only in hive for the rewards. I do try hard to tell me referrals that since they are new on hive they should not be so bothered on their rewards that nothing starts great at the beginning.

Though I only delegate to them if they could fulfill a simple task, which is making a total of 8 post within a time range of 2 week. If they can achieve that I delegate through blocktrade that cost 2hive for a HP of 18.5

Doing this because I want to know those that are active and I won't be wasting my hive on not serious users.

Hope you got my point.

That's a good way to support them. I have delegated to people who just don't post, so I may have to take it back. People need to find content they enjoy and that others can relate to. I am not going to follow people who don't post stuff I am interested in. My time is limited and I want a compelling feed. People are happy to use other platforms that don't pay. Make Hive fun for yourself and the rewards are a bonus.

Yeah, I just so much love your last two sentences.

People are happy to use other platforms that don't pay. Make Hive fun for yourself and the rewards are a bonus.

They are absolutely right.

Thanks so much for the replies 🤗😇

Cool, I just checked your profile. You are a guitarist. Nice meeting you man. I am also a young guitarist, I haven't gone far in the journey of guitar playing and I would love to have more interactions with you.

Followed you, hope to see more videos on guitar.

You can also check by blog, I made a guitar cover of Everything I do (I do it for you) by Bryan Adams and I would also love if you can suggest a song I can make a cover on for next week Friday.

Thanks in anticipation 🤗.

Have a look at the guitar community to find more guitarists.

Yeah, I will do just that. 😇

I was just thinking today that engagement on Hive has been pretty blah this week as well. I think you are the only person that commented on my post yesterday. The day before that it was you and maybe one or two others. It is pretty depressing. I am not sure if it is just the time of year or what...

Yeah I understand how it feels. Most times, on a norms, I get a few number of engagement or nothing at all but recently, that I have been engaging on other people's post more often I have began to see slight changes on my post but I know things we become better if I continue engaging with others.

I am usually good for about five to ten comments on each of my posts. Lately it has been three if I am lucky.

I believe sooner or later, it will get better. 😇🤗

It has been a bit quiet at times. Maybe people are going back to work. We should keep the engagement levels up as I know it makes a difference to people.

It's not good to use #Hive earnings to powerup more #steempower i strongly avoid such a users, they are just trying to take unfair advantage of the Hive blockchain.

Btw good to see that you are delegating new users and helping them get onboard on #Hive.

Keep going buddy. 😇👍

I just created another account. Some never do anything, but I hope some get into it.

Steve you're a life saver. I have another person to send to you.

Bless you fam

No problem. Just created another account. Could that be your friend? Will you coach them on getting started?

Yes ofcourse, I will mentor all of them and monitor them, i cant force people to do stuff ofcuz, but i will ensure i educate them about the system and culture as much as i can. I will play my part as ive been.

Someone else said they give increasing delegation to new users if they stay active. I don't know if that is enough incentive. People have to build communities around interests and location. If they make it as social as other platforms then it can be fun.

Well, nice, kindly link me up. The delegation part is the only thing left I need to get out of my way

That was @starstrings01 in his comment on this post. He is buying the delegation, so may have limited resources. I have enough HP to delegate to lots of people. I adjust it as time goes on.

@gotomarket, that's the account, he just made his post now. Thank you so much

New users need to be guided and supported as well. It is (sometimes) frustrating to work on a blogpost and see no-one engaging. Having said that, i understand that the onus to maintain a network of people and hustle within a platform is upon users. Nobody would engage on a post they don't know about.
And, that is what I am doing here. Following people and creating network. 😀

You need to find people who share your interests. Building local communities may help.

Been doing that. Saw your #exhaust post. I have been engaged with them for a while now :)

BTW voting on comments with your low HP is not really worth it. Vote on some posts instead as any rewards below 2c get burnt. You really don't need to vote for me anyway. Support the new accounts who need it more :)

This is new information for me. That means, i have voted on many comments without any benefits. I will keep that in mind for sure 👍

As a new user it is best to add your votes to others. It may take a while before it has real value.

Thank you so much for creating new accounts.

Keep up the good work

No problem. Happy to help build the Hive userbase.
