A Path to Being #5 : A Dynamic Perspective - We Are Like Onions!

Have you ever stopped and looked at an onion and reflected on all of its layers that surround its inner core? Have you ever thought that we are like onions, with our own layers surrounding our inner being? To me, the onion is an example of what our journey in life is all about, as we experience all the ups & downs, joys & pains, happiness & sadness, love & hate, peace & anger that life throws at us on a daily basis. The onion will roll along the path of life as it encounters one thing after another. As it does, it will lose one layer at a time.

Isn’t that the same for us? As we go through our days of living and experiencing, we encounter many obstacles in front of us. We continue to move forward on our life path, where some portions of our road are bumpy and sharp while other portions are smooth and easy. Along these rough patches, we sometimes get hurt and get down on ourselves. The pain awakens us to new depths of hurt but eventually the unpleasant feelings wane and we heal a bit to continue on. Before long, another layer is peeled away. Did we notice it? Did we feel different? Did we change our direction? Did we care?

I was talking to my daughter one day, about how life tends to throw us challenges, one after another. Sometimes everything happens in one day or one week, but it can be persistent. It weakens our resolve to be strong and sometimes we question if we can go on like this. Just when we reach that point of throwing in the towel, the storm lifts and the sun breaks through the thick clouds. We see a glimmer of hope and wonder if life isn’t so bad after all. Another layer is peeled off and we adjust to our new situation. We take another step down the road of life again and move forward. Did we feel the change in us?

We get so caught up in our day to day worries and stresses that we don’t notice the changes that are gradually taking place to our being. We continue to deal with things on a daily basis and go forward. When an obstacle or setback comes our way, we try to deal with it and again go through our personal coping methods. Then another stress, pain, or emotional distress occurs and another layer is peeled away. After millions of these encounters, we think, “Why is life so hard? Why is it always me that gets hurt? Why doesn’t it happen to other people? Why me?” You feel that life isn’t fair to you. But you find ways to cope and express your frustrations or pains.

Did you notice that your skills at expressing your inner turmoil are manifesting into something unique and beautiful like a drawing, a poem, an artistic creation, a story, a life decision to go in another direction, a need to help others, an action like volunteering or an “aha” moment? Lately life has been hard with many encounters of disappointment, the possibility of losing something dear to me, a change in my situation, a need to let go of negative situations, & the hurt by others, has led to my brain and inner essence being numbed and overloaded.

In an effort to focus on something productive and to stay connected, instead of wallowing in my self-pity, I’ve turned to writing. This channeling of inner thoughts and energy has been very good for me. It is like a pressure cooker filling up with pressure inside while the heat is high and then, just when it reaches a tipping point, the pressure valve releases a lot of that built-up pressure and then there is balance again. I am like that pressure cooker.

I find that as these situations arise, another of my layers is peeled away. In retrospect, I can now appreciate the removal of all these layers around my inner being, as a blessing. With this shedding of so many layers, I have been able to tap in on my inner essence and express what I know in order to help myself and others.

Connecting to your inner source is essential for a healthy and happy life. It is vital to finding meaning and a purpose in life. Your inner essence is the beauty of love, balance, & peace and it will fulfill you with serene joy and contentment. Money, material possessions, fame, and power are false things that will never make you complete. Chasing these things will only give you temporary happiness and fulfillment. There will always be a deep emptiness inside.

So we are all like onions in our life’s path. Some will lose layers quickly and find meaning, while others will hold on to their layers and never know what true life is. Everyone is allowed to make their own decisions without judgment or shame. It is really a matter of choice and needs. I hope yours will bring you much happiness.

We are full of knots that need untangling, and with each untangle we feel freer and clearer. Your analogy works too :-)

Thank-you so much for visiting my post and reading my article. I am on a path to finding inner peace and being so I have found a way to do it through writing. I had had an aha moment and just started writing about an onion, reflecting on its layers and how we all need to shed ours. It really helps to know that some people have read my story. Thank-you for visiting and commenting. It is deeply appreciated. Have a great day! :D

My dear friend these are one of the best posts I have read in a long time. You are so absolutely correct by comparing us in layers. I must say this makes one think. As you said why me we all feel that way. One day I read an article where God put a group of people in a circle and said. Put all your worries and problems on a heap in the middle of the circle and you all have a chance to pick up anyones worries or problems. As they stood there they realised they did not want any other than their own. Someone else always have more problems than you. Hope that was not to silly to tell you but I have remembered this for a very long time. Have a wonderful day.

Bigbear you are one of the nicest and warmest people that I know. Your words are wonderful and caring. Thank-you so much for your support and friendship! I loved your story about God having people put all their worries and problems in a heap in the middle of the circle and how no one wanted any other's problems. It was a very profound story and it does show how people always think their own situation is the worst.

I'm glad that you liked my analogy of the onion. For some odd reason, as I write, I tap into my inner being and it just all comes out. I think it is people like you who have blessed my participation in Steemit. I've encountered a lot of really good people who I would love to gather together, because in my heart, I know you would all love each other. You and they all have good core values, caring souls, generous spirits and a loving nature. My heart really smiles just thinking about you all because of the pure positive energy I get from knowing you.

I send warm wishes to you and your family for a wonderful weekend and a happy and joyous time. Please take care my friend. I love your posts too!!!!! ........Cabbagepatch :D

cabbagepatch! You are a really nice philosopher.I am deeply impressed by the following sentences!

Your inner essence is the beauty of love, balance, & peace and it will fulfill you with serene joy and contentment. Money, material possessions, fame, and power are false things that will never make you complete. Chasing these things will only give you temporary happiness and fulfillment. There will always be a deep emptiness inside.

Thank you for such a wonderful post:D

Thank-you Yoshiko! Your comment and support meant the world to me. I've always been passionate for helping others and reaching out. Now that I can write and post, I feel so happy to be able to truly express my inner thougts, philosopy and need for positive intentions by everyone. I tend to know who the really good people are. You are one of them. :D

I think so, too.I think that position, honor and wealth are not all. It seems that it has little to do with happiness. I think that what is truly important is to keep growing the inner face of ourselves. Thank you for great post.

I couldn't agree with you more. The greatest happiness and wealth our with the love for out family and friends and appreciating the beauty that surround us each day. It is helping others and being positive. Thank-you so much Kinakomochi!

This was a humbling meditative experience for me to read. It helped me re-center and remember to slow down, relax, and take things one step at a time. It requires a lot of calm for us to be aware of the subtle changes that occur through life's magic. There are definitely infinite layers of our being-- some self-imposed that burden us, others which are stratifications of our essential being. Underneath judgement, it is all beauty, which we must work to be able to perceive the fullness of. Have a great day @cabbagepatch!

Right before I started to write my post, I got inspired to think about the onion of all things. It really resonated with me and so I was able to use it in my article. I just sat at the computer and everything started pouring out. I'm pretty sure I was connected to my inner being.

I'm glad you had a meditative experience reading it. I really want to help others to find their inner being and core, so I finally found the best way to do so. I get so much happiness when those around me find peace and a sense of joy. That is what is keeping me on my path. Thank-you again for your kind support. It is greatly and deeply appreciated!

Oh my Dear friend....you are coming into your own now!!! You are magically gifted and will become a great sage of Steemit. Your writing is absolutely on point and it comes from deep inside you. I love this series and look forward to reading the next chapter. Love, Love, Love this!!! I am SO happy to see your layers exposed and it is to our great joy to watch it happen :D :D :D

Tamaralovelace, your comment really touched my heart. I really, really appreciate your words.....it's like a bright ray of sunshine and a warm embrace. I always look forward to your comments. Thank-you for being such a wonderful friend!

For some reason, when my fingers touch the keyboard, everything just flows out. It's like I am talking to someone, without any preconceived plan of what to say or write. I guess I must be getting closer to my inner source. I never thought I would be a writer but I guess it looks like I'm manifesting into one. I have always enjoyed helping people but usually with words spoken, not writing.

I can't wait until you have more time to write because you have the gift as well. I love your posts and the beautiful way you write. I hope your work week is going smoothly and quickly. Please don't work too hard! And again, thank-you for your support and wonderful comments!...... Cabbagepatch :D
