The Old Dog Asks: Was it Puppy Love?

in #puppy7 years ago (edited)

Was it Puppy Love, Separation Anxiety or a Bit of Both?

So, one of my customers got a new dog and it was following me around like a little puppy! Oh ya, right, it is a puppy! Well maybe not technically because it was about a year old but when you're that small "puppydom" seems to last forever!

I asked her what kind of a dog it was and since her answer was in Italian I didn't quite get it so I looked it up when I got home. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that it is either a Toy Poodle or a Multipoo! (not sure if that is a good name to have or not and I think that it WAS toilet trained! lol)

What a fascinating little dog. I decided to dig a little deeper

What Are The The Key Characteristics of These Dogs?

  • They are as cute as can be and VERY TINY!
  • This one was just 10 inches (about 25 cm) at the shoulders and weighed about 6 pounds (2.5 kg )!
  • They are not overly fragile but athletic and they love to play and run around!
  • Toy Poodles shed very little.

As I was trying to clean my customers windows this little guy kept getting between my feet and wanted my undivided attention. Finally the lady of the house had to put it out so that I could work!

Here's what happened:

I Had Never Heard of it Before But Apparently These Dogs Often Suffer From Separation Anxiety!

What is Separation Anxiety?

From Petmaltipoo.com:

"Dogs that simply cannot handle being home alone can exhibit quite severe behavioral problems. They may be very destructive (chewing anything that they can), barking up a storm, work themselves into a frenzy, try to escape from their area and even become exceedingly depressed."

Dog's Also Get Depressed?

I'd never really thought about the fact that dogs may have a fragile mental state! I have enough problems dealing with the mental state of my human family!

Puppy Love or Just Separation Anxiety?

Anyway after being around that little dog for a day I do believe that I've got puppy love and that I'm suffering from separation anxiety!

What About You?

  • Have you ever had puppy love?
  • Do you have a dog?
  • Would you like to have one?

I hope that you enjoyed this article on puppy love!

Until next time,

I wonder if that dog scratched the glass! Yikes!

It was puppy love for me ( and you...)...yeeeeaaahhhh!...summer of '78!!

WOW! Very energetic two-legged aggressive boxer. If there is any boxing ring meant for puppies, this one would surely be a champion.

As far as your questions, though puppies are very cute I'm against the domestication of any animal in my home. All these animals are very social and domestication is not good for their natural instincts. So I'd rather prefer to put them all in a huge shelter with all other dogs or better still in some mini sanctuary. For me to have puppy-love does not require to possess or own them. I believe in absolute love which radiates perennially.
So no separation anxiety for me or that little guy.

You give thoughtful and meaningful comments with some humour thrown in!

Ah the old dog and the young dog!! :O)

I have missed your posts @kuys-knee!! Glad to be back in the land of the internet and seeing them again! Atoy poodle would defo be the one for me due to the small amount of shedding. It would look mighty fine tootling alonside me!

Wow @meesterboom I was about to send out a search party! Great to see you!

hahaha.. so cute
maybe there's such a thing
but I've seen tv series about dogs
they normally reflect their owner's behaviors
I experienced having been peed on by a chihuahua because i could hear it scratching the door of my friend every time i go visit, the first time I picked it up to comfort it and it peed out of excitement I had to change and had my top washed right then and there .

I like the cute doggies but I'd rather not be peed on!

I know, I feel as if I was way for ages as I could hardly find time to get on apart from the odd post snuck on behind the missus's back!

I believe dogs most certainly suffer from separation anxiety. My brother has two small dogs. One is a Morkie (Maltese & Yorkie) and the other is a Maltipoo (Maltese and a Poodle). Both of these dogs absolutely adore him.

The minute he leaves the house they go to the door and cry for him to return. They don't know if he is just going to the car or off to classes for the afternoon, but every time is the same. Even if there are other people in the house, they wimper for at least 15 minute before going somewhere and going to nap.

The second my brother arrives the dogs go absolutely nuts. Jumping all over like they haven't seen them in years even if it has only been a few minutes.

When my brother sleeps the dogs are nestled up against him and he doesn't mind at all. If he gets up during the middle of the night the dogs are right by his side. If he happens to close them outside of the room, they will cry and scratch for him to open the door. If after a few minutes, my brother has not opened the door, they will go to other occupied rooms and scratch and cry at the door for them to open it. If no one answers the dogs go back to his and lay down right next to the door.

Dogs absolutely adore their owners!

Wow! What an experience and thanks for the photo!

You're most certainly welcome! His mannerisms remind me a lot of the video you posted when someone is at the our back sliding glass door!

Amazing little fella.. I had a golden retriever myself and dogs are extremely smart when they start to love you.
By that is a bit case sensitive in some dogs.
Was getting too messy with the hair she was leaving so I had to give her to someone else that had the time to take care of her.
Cheers and much love ❤︎

I had a dog as a kid and it was a tragedy for the whole family when it died. The shedding does pose a problem but if I were on a farm a nice outdoor dog would be great.

That's a nice story. I like the drumming the mirror by the puppy, it really liked you my friend. Yes dogs do have emotions. My uncle family lives in the same block as mine and they have a Husky, it's big like a wolf but very gentle.

Couple months back the whole family went to India for 6 weeks and I had to take care of that Husky. I was amazed to see the tears in its eyes, it was eating almost nothing. It lost quite a bit weight in those 6 weeks. They do are very emotional.
That's why the old saying, "dog is man's best friend". That filtered through emotions screen too.

So you've lived through the experience of a dog's separation anxiety!

Yes my dear brother @kus-knee and this experience will stay in RAM!

so cute =D

It really is!

All that's left for dogs to do is talk! They're already so adorable with their emotions, instincts, and amazing memory. Add talking to the mix and we're good!

Good point.

That pup loves you! I had a Coton du Tulear as small as that one and she suffered from separation anxiety, as well. She became my shadow, following me everywhere. Thanks for sharing. I hope you get to visit a lot! What a connection.

Yes it was a lot of fun!

awe such a cute puppy ! All puppies are cute LOL ! I will be getting a little dog when I move to my property in the future ! 👍🐕🐕🐕

That will be nice for you! Glad to see you steeming towards your goal!

I think it must be "The old small dog" nice blog and pictures. every dog has his own characters and also depends what you make from it.. nice post

Good observations!

It weekend So my senses are extra Sharp 😉

Puppy love is the best!
Ahhh, poor little one. Looks like a maltese.

My dog has separation anxiety. Nothing weird happened. She's had it from the start. She barks continuously when she's alone. So I can't leave her for too long which obviously creates challenges. Luckily that's her only flaw and a lot of people love her so there's no shortage of dog sitters :)

Glad to know that you have Dog sitters! I like doing that job.

Too bad you don't live nearby ;)

Little cute puppy simply amazing😁😁

Yes it is a cute one!

Yeah, i have little puppy too when i was young, that's why when i saw the video he make me smile. If you don't mind kindly upvote my post and reestemed if you don't mind. Thanks

its like a electronic dog . very fast

Hahaha good one!

Cute puppy, 100% upvoted @chanthasam

I am thinking to buy a little doh also. Any sugestions?

I'm no expert but there is so much info on the internet. I realize now that you have to look at the character of the dog as well!

Yes.. this is the most important for me.. I was thinking to a Mug♥️

I'm sure that you will make a good choice. My brother-in-law had a Border Collie and it was so smart and so obedient. They are the breed that helps look after sheep.

Thanks man. Will search about it

Great post thanks @kus-knee

i have never heard that depression on the dog.
but i do believe at some point that got same mutual feeling

It seems as though that is the case!

I love dogs they are the greatest friends of mine, He's so cute though :)

Do have a dog? what breed is it?

i had a yorkshire once :) she was adorable

Simply so.cute ...I want one dog plzzzz

Yes they make you want to take them home!

Dog love #puppy

it was "Let me in dad" lol.

That seems to be the correct interpretation!

@meesterboom

Ah the old dog and the young dog!!

That's exactly what I was thinking. How funny is that?

@kus-knee I feel so sad for the little dog. Do you know if the owner found a way to help the little one with the abandonment issues? My heart breaks to see this.

I suppose this dog needs a lot of love and attention to buit the trust to get over these feelings. I never was a dog person but I get why you fell for this little one.

Well I think that the dog has a lot of company. They have two children and lots of visitors!

Good idea, thanks for the advice!

They're so adorable with their emotions and amazing memory. Only left for dogs is talk!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful video :)

Thanks so much @rtdcs!

I am an animal communicator. Animals have a great depth of feeling! They are all very sensitive and special.

Thanks for your comment @whitedolphin!

😀😀😀

got damn, puppies videos always get me :)

I know what you mean!

so sweet puppy in the video!!! I love so much dogs and I've always had a dog close to me! When I met Paolo, I have a dog and a cat and the same for him, so we started our life together as a big family of "4 legs" ^_^ Now just my dog Geremia is still alive, it's an old dog, but we love him so much!

Very nice story. I'm sure that Geremia is good company for you!

Yes, he is. Now he's 12 years old and he's diabetic, but he's full of energy (sometimes more than us) :D

I cani hanno emozioni e le sanno comunicare...credimi Vecchio Dog...ho visto crescere molti cuccioli a casa mia. Ho bellissimi e teneri ricordi

I believe you. They seem to understand much more than we think they do!

This is a very emotional story @kus-knee! I do not have dogs, but my children are dreaming about it!

Yes kids always want to have a dog!

I had several dogs growing up, and want to have one of my own one day. First I would like to have some property for it to be able to freely run around on.

Yes it's good to have some room for them!

Dogs are the man's most loyal friends. They will never betray, they always remain faithful, and always wait and miss their masters. I know cases when the owner died, the dog also died of longing for the owner ((

Wow, what a story!

Raise kids not dogs .

Haha, yes people do treat their dogs like family. Human children first, I agree!

Great article @kus-knee! Yes I definitely get separation anxiety when I'm away from my pups. And I feel that need that they have to be around me. They hate it when I leave or I'm in another room and they can't get to me. It's adorable how much love and endless devotion they can have towards their owners. My two Labrador puppies and even my older Labrador dogs all show these qualities. I think it's an amazing part of dogs' characters and there's something about it that I can't get enough of :) Thanks for sharing this!

H there @natashahall! Yes I remember the pics of your beautiful dogs!

Dogs definitely do suffer from separation anxiety... my ex had a Corgi, and it would become quite destructive if she left it more than once a day. It seemed to "understand" that she would go to work from 7am to 3pm... but if she left again-- say even 30 minutes to the supermarket-- the dog would go NUTS.

Very cute little friend you found there!

Wow amazing. I thought that only humans needed psychologists but there is a whole new world opening up to me! Some time back I saw advertising for water therapy for dogs! The dogs would get into the swimming pool with the therapist and get some type of massage from them. If I could afford that I'd have it done to me instead!

There are SO many "services" for dogs out there... at least here in the US, I don't truly know about elsewhere. There are even "dog psychics" who claim to help bereaved pet owners get in touch with their beloved Fluffy after they die.

very clingy lol

Yes indeed!

That's a cute little fella.

So true!

Great post! Thanks for your hints! Followed for more

Much thanks!

Such a cute dog ! :)

It really is!

Thanks for your upvote :)

... he is cute and funny... :))

You nailed it!

Welcome @kus-knee . I hope you enjoy here as much as I do! Nice post, I will follow your account, please follow me at @rocketgyi and give a upvote to this comment.

Thanks for coming!

The single mindedness of the anxiety is quite scary were I to think of it in a human, myself specifically of course. Hard to imagine, or understand...

I had never given it much thought but it reminds us of what a big responsibility it is to care for the animals!

It sure does. And just like us, lots of love, stimuli and occasional alterations to routine is how I interpret the need...

Amazing

Thanks for having a look @muhammadilham!

I had a poodle, very beautiful, gray. But this puppy is not a poodle, it's some other little dog :)

Yes I'm not sure what it is. Either a Toy Poodle or a Maltipoo!

Looks like a cute little dog!!

It sure is!
