By fire white

We have almost finished painting the inside of the house, but "almost" is still quite a lot left. Tonight I painted the surrounds of the fireplace and the fireplace itself. We have cleaned it up so that it is now one smooth wall surface (previously it was a mix of surfaces) and painted it the same color (with a latex-based paint to take the warmth) as the rest of the walls, but the rough casting we painted white, which after years of open fireplace grime build up washed away, it looks really clean and bright. Eventually we will close off the fireplace to make it cleaner and also more practical as a heating unit in the winter, at which time we will decide on whether to do anything to the red brick.

The built-in wooden cupboards to the left (pictured below) and the twin on the other side of the room and out of shot, will be painted next week, after they are adjusted by someone who hopefully cares more for straight lines than the person we paid last week for it. I could have made them crooked and ill-fitting for free. As long as they look good later, I don't mind.

Things are starting to come together in this area and we will hopefully sand and paint the floors in the next few weeks, so that maybe by summer we will be able to enjoy the room a little, which won't have any furniture in it, since we have no money for such luxuries. A lot has been going out every month for the last year and I am looking forward to being able to save a little of our income and knocking some of the debt out.

I would love to be able to start investing fiat again - as my last direct investment was the 2020 March dip, which is a very long time ago. I have been able to invest a little over the last few months from yield earnings, but it isn't really "profit" as there has been quite a lot of impermanent loss due to native token price reduction on the pairs. As long as they keep returning okay for a while though, it should be fine. What would be lovely is if Cub Finance is able to generate some major investment interest and start locking up some value into CUB itself.

I don't really understand how the interest is generated though, as it seems that some new DeFi pools are able to almost immediately get a massive amount of value pushed into them at release, regardless of whether the team is known or not. This makes me question the legitimacy of them, as even if the yield is high, I would suspect that large stakeholders would be very wary of aping into a new platform that hasn't even been audited yet - but a few hundred million seems to go into some of these in a matter of days. Yet, The Leo finance and Cub team are known, are developing, are making sure the code is audited and are trying to build sustainability - but struggle to get a twentieth of the TVL. I suspect there is far more to this than marketing exposure.

The same kinds of questions arise in regards to Hive too, as it should be a no-brainer for at least every crypto person to have an account here at minimum, but that isn't the case. I have always wondered why people will happily buy into tokens that have no social presence or use case at all, but seemingly not even know about all the tokens that do. How are people finding and choosing the tokens they are investing into?

But, I am not too concerned about lack of people here at the moment, although I would love more to come, take and build a valuable digital life on Hive. It would also be nice to get a higher amount of normal people in to dilute the concentration of crazy people who seem to end up on Hive. There really are some pretty unstable folk around here and I wonder how they manage and if they are the same in real life, or they hide versions of themselves out of sight. I would suspect that if many of them acted IRL like they act on Hive, they wouldn't be able to hold a normal job and might struggle financially - which explains why they are attracted to Hive.

The desire for "easy money" drew many here, with most discovering that it is far from easy to get the money consistently. With their expectations dashed on the blocks, many of them drift away or double down on their crazy. It is amazing at how many of them quit time and time again, yet are still here posting, time and time again. I find it pathetic how much time and effort they spend here, while apparently unhappy with being here - an opt-in platform. Someone would have to be pretty broken or desperate to opt into something they strongly dislike.

Everyone has issues - some more extreme than others.

My issue at the moment is that I am covered in paint and think it is time for bed. Tomorrow, we are going to try and take Smallsteps to a farm to see some animals during the day, as she has been awesome over the last months, so the painting can wait, while we take the time to do something a little special. I will try to get the camera equipment organized too, as it is rare that we are out of the house these days and I haven't been out of the city in over half a year, which is insane.

Time for a shower and a rest.

I always assume that's the founders running a heap of volume/liquidity through their project, to try and attract speculators. Wash trading.
I don't expect anyone but insiders actually make any money.
We could start Matt and Taraz Unipancake Swap Swamp and push the token price into the billions. Its easy to pump centralised rubbish.

Me too. With a decent sized "silent" investor group, they can pump in early, attract stake and easy out before the rest.

Very true Sir, many joined this blockchain by their friends. Friends who told them that the platform pays in coins 💰 , forgetting that to get it isn't easy at all. They keep posting and posting without checking others works or engaging on other people's blog. To me i see HIVE as a social media, even though HIVE rewards your passion 💯 but you have to create that friendship and engage, make yourself known.

I hope your investment pays out in a big way. So that you can kick out those debt figures out🤞.

I enjoyed reading your post, they are always filled with real thoughts.
Have a nice day Sir.💓

They keep posting and posting without checking others works or engaging on other people's blog.

And then complain that no one reads their blogs :D

😅 exactly. Making them to leave HIVE😂

I still don't understand the marketing, hence, I will continue on this end of Hive until I can understand it or realize it is not for me.

It is a literal ghost town with all sorts of people powering down, but, what does this all mean? I have no idea, but, I have to assume some need the money, and others who have been here a long time are powering down. I am not too worried at the moment, but, posting is less than ever and it is quiet around here.

It is summer and summer means more outdoor time. I get it.

Your house is looking better and better. So much progress! I think the whole family will have a great time. All together, outside and away from the house.

Have fun!! Take pictures!

There are also quite a few powering up also - I have seen at least one person powering up a lot over the last week or two and that person is pretty influential.

I am organizing the camera now - it has been so long that nothing is ready!!!

You are right, I was focusing too much on how many I was seeing power down. The thing that made me look twice is that most of them were surprises to me. People who were all about the Steem Hive.

But, I am not powering down and neither are you and a ton of people I know. Life changes and peoples need change. The joblessness could cause a need for cash and different interests may need cash. I have to keep believing that if enough of us keep working it, it will revive. It has been too quiet and there needs some noise!

I hope Smallsteps and the whole family had a great day! If it makes you feel better, I was the same way with the camera a while back. OMG when you don't use it religiously. (or at all for months)

What people like that dislike is the fact that they can't milk their cow without the community noticing it and calling out their bullshit. They are not invested in the community, just the token, but Hive is a lot more than just a token. They dislike the community and don't understand why the community matters since all they care about is money.

I understand this side of it - but why don't they even have accounts here?

How are people finding and choosing the tokens they are investing into?

If it's anything like how some of my artist friends with no previous experience with crypto (knowing that bitcoin exists doesn't count XD) are getting into nfts, by just following along with whatever their friends recommend (friends that are closer/more trusted than I am obviously, although in fairness I don't push).

Also, hive is way too much effort, why bother "wasting" your time writing posts and talking to people when you can just "set and forget" (that's how you invest right XD).

It's a really good thing that smallsteps is smallsteps, even if I liked white walls they would never have survived my youngest at the same age (he was the child who would draw on the walls and smear food, dirt but thankfully not body waste over them).

The paint job is looking great! What's happened with the cupboards, something not cut quite right or do they need some filler, did something move? o_O

Interesting mantelpiece on your fireplace as well, can't remember if I've seen one like that before, usually they're shelves.

If you don't like the red brick perhaps you could do what whoever redid the fireplace at my house did and use some nice tiles. Though there is now a gas heater sitting in my fireplace so I don't know if the tiles were ever used for an actual fire.

The room is looking lovely, going to look amazing when it's all painted and you've managed to furnish it and hang your pics up :D

I still need to hang pictures here aaaaahhhhhhh

I understand follow the crowd.

Also, hive is way too much effort, why bother "wasting" your time writing posts and talking to people when you can just "set and forget" (that's how you invest right XD).

But to know that it is hard to really make it, really requires being here. I think that many know how hard it is on Instagram or YouTube, but still try. It is easier here for the average person. They might not make millions, but they can at least earn something.

Smallsteps has been an angel in so many ways - a bit of a demon in others :D

They were cut "by hand" and that hand wasn't very attentive.

It s a bit weird, but also kind of cool, as it mirrors the surface of the outside.

Not sure what we will do with the bricks after, even just some paint will be fine if the fireplace is enclosed. I was thinking of some stone as well.

I am hoping that once we are settled, we will be able to get some paintings of my dad's here. It has been years and I haven't the money for transport yet....

I think for the people who can get over "crypto is a scam" (like that really matters if you viewed this place as "just another bloody socnet" but then if you did Youtube and Instagram make more sense because that's where "everyone" is so in the unlikely event you somehow manage to get seen it will snowball) all those keys are a bit daunting here.

Sounds like a deliberate design choice if it mirrors the surface outside XD

Stone would look pretty cool. What do you mean by enclosing the fireplace, are you getting rid of it?

What do you mean by enclosing the fireplace, are you getting rid of it?

Putting a door on it. It is pretty the way it is when burning, but it churns through wood and doesn't push out or retain the heat. We can have a "heart" put in it that will hold the heat and have a fan to push the warmth out. We have other heating of course, but if we are going to have a fireplace, may as well make it useful.

Ahh yup I think I get what you're doing now.

Dear @tarazkp, Are you doing remodeling your house yourself after work at your workplace to reduce labor costs?

How many years does it take to complete a remodel of your home?
Are you planning to rent part of your house to others?

I wonder how your family got through the Finnish winter.
How is summer in Finland right now?

It will be an ongoing process, but most of it will be done in the next year. We are not planning to rent any of it out.

People have made it through the Finnish winter for 10,000 years, we survived too :)

Mmh, we first did sand the floors before painting the walls. That was the advice we did get.
Owning a house is great but also some kind of bottomless pit. It keeps on attracting work, time, and so on.

The crypto world is indeed strange. I did had a nice discussion about crypto with 3 friends last evening. None of them did invest into crypto. But they are willing to. Problems for these is that the complexity does hold them back. This combined with the overwhelming amount of coins. They do need some kind of mentor to guide then through it. Otherwise they will be lost souls.

You can read more about it in my latest post. Would be stupid to copy it all in this comment 😁

Cheers,
Peter

Mmh, we first did sand the floors before painting the walls. That was the advice we did get.

It depends on the sander. We should be okay.

Owning a house is great but also some kind of bottomless pit. It keeps on attracting work, time, and so on.

It is a lifestyle choice too. not owning a house gives freedom, but what do most do with the freedom?

Start with the big coins, then help them explore other options. I know a few people I have introduced who decided to get into random small tokens and got rekt - but have no btc, eth etc...

You can read more about it in my latest post. Would be stupid to copy it all in this commen

Will come by later, as I am running out the door.

You make some good points. Balance is everything.

I have struggled to find balance in my life in many ways - especially surrounding work.

me too, as i am a bit of workaholic.

How are people finding and choosing the tokens they are investing into?

For many it's just hearsay, following what a majority of people are doing. I believe laziness is the reason why we see these kinds of lazy investments, along with so few people in the crypto space on blockchain based social platforms. Many people simply want the profits they hear about without bothering about things like usability

still, how do they find out about these random shit tokens and why would anyone with significant stack go heavy into them?

That I can't answer, but my guess is the more ridiculous it is, the lower the barrier for entry thus the more rewards it promises. Reading about crypto billionaires made overnight can do that to one... Lol

Social media and huge win stories could be the fuel of that.
My friends are willing to put some money together on a monthly basis to build a portfolio. But they want to manage it. That is difficult enough for me. There is a big difference a writing a post on social media and informing people close to you.
While this shouldn't be, it is.

Everyone wants to win the lottery - though there is a far better chance with crypto :D

We may also include the huge amount of different tokens. Sometimes it is even difficult for more wintered crypto lovers to see the forest through the trees.
The newcomers who do het burned right away are lost souls. Regardless if they did a stupid investment or not.

They hope for easy moon. This pandemic strike us human really hard. People are struggling for money to put enough food on the table.

Easy moon sure, but to get that kind of stake involved so early... I wonder how many of these platforms are managed by the same teams, same early investors.
