Red Rewards Comment Challenge! Earn SBD and votes for your comments!

in #community8 years ago (edited)

Today we're doing something easy, but highly needed on this platform. I'm doing a Red Rewards Comment Challenge! The purpose is to encourage interaction, support minnow growth, and help individual users network for success!

Good comments get upvotes. Great comments win SBD.

I'll be rewarding the top three comments with SBD earnings from this challenge.

The rules are simple:

  1. Post a quick comment about how you found steemit, and something about why you love it, or what it's done for you.

  2. You must reply to at least one other comment.

  • If you have any legitimate steemit questions that will help you be a better steemian, please ask them. These get points as well!

  • If you have answers or advice to other users, please respond to their questions. Links to related posts are welcome, as long as they are specifically designed to instruct and help answer questions and help others.

The idea is to find people you connect with. Two minnows is better than one. Ten is better than two! It's a lot easier to succeed on here when we pay attention to each other and partner up in efforts.

Sort:

I came to steemit because I was directed here out of a private forum of some early crypto adapters. Some are investors here, some are members and some know I have the uncanny ability to find the holes and scammers and bring them to light so they may be worked on fixing.

I love steemit for many different reasons, it is a great test of personal character first and foremost. How do you use your money and are you worried about maximum rewards for yourself or spreading them as far as you can over the max number of people. It's all recorded on the block chain and traceable. So no matter what you say you do the truth is there. I love the fact that there are users from countries where a post making $1 in up votes can feed them for a whole day or in rare cases a week. I love the communities. I love chat. I love the guys who never post and up vote people like crazy.
Steemit has given me an outlet to help others, folks to chat with and monthly payment of crypto from the group that placed me here.

I love this comment. We have a different path to here, but love some of the same things about it. I however must build my SP, so have to upvote my own posts and use for SP, as well as upvoting those of others. The frustrating thing is that I keep running out of SP so that my upvote doesn't even give a penny. And this is after maybe an hour of upvoting in a day, and really only upvoting articles or comments that deserve an act of appreciation.

I try to comment in reply more, but sometimes it sucks to have so little SP. And then steemworld tells me an hour into the day that I've got 50 hours until I'm at 100% voting power again! Agony.

But you know, that frustration just highlights for me what an incredible platform this is for bringing out our better natures. On what other social media platform do you fret over not being able to give more to others on the platform?

You'll get up there indigo. We've ALL BEEN THERE! Just give it a little time. Don't focus too much on the voting. Rather, focus energies on commenting and creation. I've seen the comments you leave. And the posts you make. You are doing a good job on here. Plug away!

Thank you! That is what I've had to resign myself to, but I do so look forward to the day where I can be a part of spreading financial abundance more too.

I'm WITH you! I wish I could leave huge plops of SBD for people. Wouldn't that be fun???

I love the fact that there are users from countries where a post making $1 in up votes can feed them for a whole day or in rare cases a week

As do I!!!

Yes! And there are groups using it to reforest or replenish beehives, help communities etc. Connecting with individuals from everywhere just hits me hard. I get pretty teared up a lot on here.

I got to know about steemit.com in a section of the largest social website in my country, nairaland.com.

It has been a loving and fun filled experience so far since i joined the platform, sometimes i even wonder how wonderful the person that shared the information with us then is, for not keeping it to him self.

I have learnt a lot of things on the platform such as;

  • The spirit of patience and "can do", when you see your posts gets little or no attention but with the believe that it will improve as time goes and i dish out wonderful posts which increases my reputation.

  • I have also learnt the art of putting my thoughts in to words, in a way that it will benefit the readers.

  • I love the platform due to the opportunities it presents for me to meet wonderful humans and benefit mutually.

My question about the platform is; how possible is it to grow on the platform without investing external funds, such as buying steem for steem power or paying bidbots.

Thank you for this opportunity @littlescribe, you are wonderful.

The fastest easiest way is to flip all of your earned SBD into Steem and power up with each post. That is unless you need the money for your direct life at that moment.
This does a few different things.
1.) It shows you are not here just for a money grab.
2.) It increases your vote power with each power up.
3.) It will get you a slider faster which will allow you to vote more.

I would also suggest to find contest to enter that are giving away free SBD that will allow you to do the above. Simple contest like this post. Something that is easily won and fair to everyone. There are many contest set up for the new guy to win and all you have to do is enter.

I would also suggest not re-steeming too many other people's post until you have a fair following. In the event someone goes to your blog and all they see if other people's blogs they will have a harder time finding your content.

Wow, i really appreciate this detailed comment of yours. Thank you for your patience.

I will try out some of the things you just listed and see how it goes. You are a darling.

Great feedback for us all. Thanks.

This are all EXCELLENT comments, eroded. I 100% agree with everything. I think I powered up all my posts for over a year. I'm currently saving up to buy a car, so I'm taking cash for a little while. But it hurts. I wanna just power up. :0)

And yes, contests are the way to go. New or not. You can find all sorts to suit your fancy.

You are welcome! And YOU are wonderful.

I checked out nairaland.com. It kind of reminds me of craigslist.org, only it's more involved. How fascinating to see that you got here because of that. I think it's awesome. Welcome aboard, and good luck in your adventure!

Yes, you are right, its a website with rich contents and forums. Thank you for the compliment.

I discovered Steemit thanks to a dear friend's recommendation. He doesn't have an account but he thought I'd like it, and he was absolutely right.

I have always wanted a place to share my thoughts and works where I wouldn't be attacked. I see it everyday in Facebook, in Instagram, in Tumblr. There's so much hate and the atmosphere is so hostile that I used to prefer to just hide in my shell. However, things in Steemit are different. I have received some of the kindest comments of my life being here and most people have been extremely welcoming. I have found amazing content that makes me happy to read and see everyday. The conections I have made with some people are pure and real and I have learned a great deal. Here, you win in so many ways and that's what makes Steemit the incredible place that it is.

I have little more than a month here so I still have a long way to go, but day by day I keep growing thanks to many helping hands. I participated in contests (I won a couple), I joined Discord chats (and met awesome communities), I created posts that I enjoyed a lot. This month was wonderful and I'm super excited for what is yet to come.

Also, yes, I made some SBD's that have helped me to cover some expenses so my mom doesn't have to struggle to pay for my studies. It may not look like much, but in my country the monthly minimun wage is 3$, so with one post I can make more than my parents in a month. Steemit is making my life (and my family's) easier and I'm nothing but grateful for all I have achieved.

I have a similar experience. I like to write, and wanted a place that would be more socially involved, as well as a possible way to earn a little extra. In the meantime, I've had the privilege of meeting so many cool people, and learning about cryptocurrency and the blockchain. This has been an amazing ride, and immensely rewarding for me.

Be sure to come and check out the new comment challenge, for free SBD and an opportunity to make some steemit friends! Red Rewards Comment Challenge #2

I found Steemit a year ago, didn't sign up because I thought it was just a forum for cryptocurrency enthusiasts and I've seen enough of those, it wasn't until someone mentioned d.Tube as a YouTube alternative did I finally bite the bullet and register being able to upload videos.

The thing that irritates me the most is the fact that during certain time windows, it's impossible to post, upvote, comment, etc due to bandwidth limitations, which is the biggest bottle neck for newbies on the platform. Between 5 AM and 12 Noon EST on weekdays and 4 AM to 2:30 PM EST on weekends, it's impossible to interact with the site beyond reading and hope it's not good enough to warrant an upvote because the newb can't.

My advice for new steemians is to post what you can, while you can, read and be sure to set your voting power below 100%, this is easier done on Busy.org in your settings by enabling the voting power slider.

You are raising a question that's been puzzling me lately. What do you mean when you say "bandwidth limitations" and that you can't use the platform during those hours?

I sometimes see that my upvote is not even giving someone a penny and steemworld will say it will be 30 hours, sometimes even 50 hours, before I'm at 100% again. Is this what you're referring to?

I have very little SP having joined less than 2 weeks ago. I put in about $100 of STEEM from Binance, so maybe that is why I'm not encountering this issue of which you speak?

That's definitely why you're not running into those issues personally. If you go to www.steemd.com/@indigoocean you'll see a bandwidth bar which is the limitation of how much you can use the site, which includes commenting, upvoting, powering up, powering down, making transactions, following someone, reporting abuse, etc.

Those with far less SP than you, around my SP, will regularly run into bandwidth limitations, especially during the mornings in Eastern Standard Time. Keeps us from doing anything beyond reading (or watching).

Thank you. That's really good to know, because next week I'm going to be sharing about Steemit with a group of mine on FB and most if not all of them won't be able to buy even $100 of STEEM. They'll need the delegated SP for new members to get them going. I have to give some thought then to what to tell them to not run into bandwidth problems. I'm West Coast, but most of them are East Coast, so those times are valuable to them.

I still don't quite understand why different times of day the problem comes up. Is the platform using more bandwidth from each user during busier times? Or is there competition for platform bandwidth, like gas wars for ICOs?

Anyway, I won't keep quizzing you. Thanks again for the clarification.

There's just a lot more people posting, commenting and whatnot, it's just the highest trafficked period of time. Allegedly an update to the platform later this year might be getting rid of the issue though. So basically the busier the site is, the better time it is to post, but also coincidentally is the time newbies are least likely to be able to do anything. It's a real huge pain the ass that particular bottleneck ;)

Very helpful info, @outtheshellvlog. Thanks for participating and helping out!

No problem, I try to be at least somewhat not a waste of space on the internet.

I don't have any problems with bandwidth lately. I had it in the beginning, but now since a week or 2 didn't had the problem anymore..
I do see that it's getting harder to got your content to the right people... But it on for the long run though I guess...

SO indeed keep posting those content , and keep commenting on eachother... Have a great day

first of all i would like to thank you for giving us this opportunity, actually i do really love steemit, simply because it pay you for your effort and making a good content, not this only but this wonderful platform makes me able to see so many wondeful places through the shots steemians share, moreover it helps me to know new things, especially in the world of cryptocurrency. thank you.

I'm in the same boat. It forces me to be more creative and involved than I otherwise might. I love it for that!

I began to know steemit from my friend, I think steemit is the unifying nation of various tribes.

How do you mean that exactly?

I mean with the steemit we can be friends from various nations.

A ok clear.. Thanks for the explaination. Because I do believe Steemit is all about sharing and caring and bringing people closer !!!.

Have a great day !!

thanks my friend will follow you.

@zeroseven, make sure you take the Red Rewards Comment Challenge #2 to earn free SBD. You were a runner up this time. See if we can get you to come and try again!

Yes! It is impressive how people from all around the globe can be easily connected in one plataform full of good vibes.

Well put, zero!

And it’s true comments can be powerful. A great comment can land you on the radar of a popular blogger – the kind of super-connected influencer who can accelerate your success.
It sounds so simple.
The only problem?
You aren’t sure what a great comment looks like.
Is it a comment that shovels heaps of praise onto the author? Or one that argues a persuasive alternative view?..

You're right about comments. Since I'm a minnow, at this point I'm making more with comments that with my own posts. And I'm not talking only about SBD, but also followers and friends.

Commenting is the best way to connect to people and if you leave thoughtful opinions, it's likely that they will check out your blog. I try to leave my honest opinion about them, not necessarily full of praise like you say, but I try to give everyone the credit they deserve. We all need more positivity and kind words.

It's all about the 3 C's:

  • Create (good content)
  • Comment (often)
  • Curate (well)

If you wanna check out a little instructional video I made on the subject, click here. You can learn about what NOT to do, as well as how to make a good impression. Let me know if you have any more questions. Here to help!

Ok, thanks..

I've had left comments with constructive criticism about what I disliked about the author's post and gotten praise from the author for it. The difference is is being constructive rather than destructive. Comment spammers leaving crap comments like "Good job" don't really add much, and becomes obvious it's a comment left for commenting sake as opposed to having consumed the content they're commenting on.

So I'd say it's a little variable, but mostly so long as you're sincere and honest in your comment and you've actually read the content in question, it should be fine overall.

" The difference is is being constructive rather than destructive."

It's all about honesty. Both types of responses have their place. Constructive comments help the user getting constructive replies improve and the destructive ones make other readers aware of issues because it will either get flagged which get's it more attention or it will start a long conversation about by other users defending or agreeing.

"This sucks, go fuck yourself with a cactus and die in a chemical fire you worthless fucking fuck!" is destructive. ;) Should've been more clear about the terminology.

Yes, thank you for clarifying! ;p

LOL, yes that I consider just being a dick, lol.

I try to avoid being exact with what I mean with destructive when I talk about it xD because let's face it, I don't want to be mistaken as being a dick and taken out of context by someone too tired to convey the meaning of what I'm saying in their head.

Don't avoid it, that is how you will make the truest connections and like minded people. People want real.

You seem to be quite right about a great comment promoting an individual

Good and steady success for you,do not forget may post let stand in steemit

I got to steemit accidentally, I was researching about crypto and came into this great community. I love writing and sharing stories and knowledge, steemit is the best place for it... I rewards the contentwriters and not the owners of the platform alone... So that is , in a nutshell, what I like about steemit the most.. Also learning a lot of new people, so that is cool in any way....

so i'm following you buddy, as long as you share stories and knowledge, i think we can learn from each other, have a great time friend.

Thank you my friend, !! We will learn a lot from eachother, that is for sure..

Have a great day, !!!

Come check out the new Red Rewards Challenge for a chance to win free SBD again!

I found Steemit really by listening to Jerry Banfield on YouTube, which I came across while researching crypto. I had heard of both STEEM and Steemit before, but it was actually always in a negative light, so I wasn't paying much attention to it for months.

Then something in how Jerry presented the idea of the "introduce yourself" post just clicked with me. His story was so much like my own that for the first time I thought, "Maybe I could find a community on there." So I joined a couple weeks ago and have been loving it ever since.

Things I particularly love about it are how it is based in generosity, how you can find different tribes of people by interest, how everyone can coexist peacefully (except for political folks for some reason) despite having such different interests (the way the platform penalizes antisocial behavior may have something to do with that), and how the platform actually pays the content creators for the value of their content as decided by those consuming that content.

I do wish it was easier for newbies like me to get more attention to our articles. But then there are those people like you who run contests to help us, which is yet another beautiful thing about Steemit. It really is a platform that inspires us all to bring our best selves forward and play with others from that place, and around ideas we care about. Wow!

He has done a lot to broaden crypto to the masses, and he offers a lot to the minnow growth once we get here. Glad to see you are here because of efforts he made!

Your comment made me smile. It's nice to hear mutual appreciation flowing toward someone.

I found Steemit through a friend who wanted to encourage me to start writing more for a living. She had not been on it but for about 7 months she brought it up. We lost our business and partner store last year due to political bs (kratom ban) and I have been severely apathetic and not creating much. In general crypto space gave me a new jolt, as I LOVE the human experimentation and being allowed participate.

Also question I cannot find an answer too. I was messing around with dmania and posted a meme. It autoposted to my Steemit wall and I can't for the life of me delete it, from either website. It does not have a delete button on the post, only edit. VERY weird.

If you are still in edit mode, then you can clear the post and put something else there. But as far as deleting, as far as I understand: once on the blockchain, always on the blockchain.

ahh it is a time thing I think . I saw that I could delete a post I had made from Steemit, but the option is gone now. I have deleted a post before. It must have a certain time frame where it can be deleted and since I didn't know it posted direct from dmania I missed that window
