Loquats were my target!

Loquats had finally decided to enter the ripening phase. I have been waiting for this for a while, as I mentioned to some hive members already, among them @littlebee4, that I really like the taste of this fruit. This weekend we took a long walk, around the orange groves and loquat plantations. The weather was good, a bit cloudy, but just to adorn the sky. Today we count again on the presence of rain.

If you are not familiar with this fruit and its taste, I will gladly bring here my admiration towards it. It was the first time I tasted the fruit of a loquat a few years ago... I can not recall the exact year, but it was less than ten years. Maybe the very first encounter was not the perfect one, but soon I started to like this fruit so much that it is now my favourite pastime while walking. Hunt for loquats.

IMG_20220501_175122.jpg

There are many gardens near to our home where they grow. Until now I was just observing the green and yellowish fruits with longing, they don't taste really good when still in this phase. Once they receive the orange colour, that's the sign. They are here for us, to offer some tasty bite.

IMG_20220501_174450.jpg

Although many of those loquat trees are around, I am trying to hunt those trees that are growing freely. I call them: they are nobody's trees if grow on the path, ie not inside of a plot or garden. If the loquat tree is inside someone's property, I pick just those that are already on the ground. That happened with that one I found, it was already on the floor, landed on some grass. So why not take it? Here is the proof!!

IMG_20220501_174239.jpg

Well, not a great proof, but if you want to believe me, I would be grateful :))

There are still many fruits that are not ripe. For those, we will have to wait a week or a bit more, and later the season of it is over. Until next April or May when they will ripe again. The flowering season of them is during the autumn and early winter. It is so unusual for a fruit tree, but I kinda like this feature of it. The taste is also unusual, not so sweet, not so sour. Something in the middle and not easy to describe. One has to try it to know it.

April and early May are also perfect months for the asparagus hunt. In the meadows, you can find many wild asparagus, tender and very delicious. I have collected a lot, here is only a small part of what I found. It has been a delicious dinner, prepared in a saucepan with a few drops of olive oil.

A lot of those yellow and white flowers are everywhere. Literally everywhere. I don't know the name of them, it is just a type of wildflowers but they nicely decorate the green grass meadows. And yes, we see so much greenery too, as the quantity of the rain that we had in Spain during this spring was very unusual. That came well for nature. Finally, instead of dry soil and rock, this green can calm the eyes!

Our last stop was by the fence where I saw this beauty! He was calmly eating some grass, but I wanted to get closer to him.

IMG_20220501_183241.jpg

However, getting closer and trying to avoid the wire in the photo makes the picture of the horse incomplete. I mean, we don't see here his ears.

IMG_20220504_101524.jpg

He was very considerate and helped me in this action, the ears are here now, but now the snout is missing 😂

IMG_20220504_101244.jpg

Finally, we made a deal. He will pose and if I have a nice shot I will leave him alone to have his snack. Almost a good photo, but just almost, as in one of the corners the wire of the fence makes some grey shadow. Anyway, I was happy to meet him, and I thought he was the only four-legged beauty I would see that day.

IMG_20220504_101411.jpg

Just some plots away, I met this funny gang, a donkey and a white horse. The donkey was trying to taste the rok, but soon he decided that it is not his favourite food. He opted for another object.

IMG_20220421_193752.jpg

The fence!!

Let's try how this wire tastes! Maybe mipiano can come in and pet us. We would really like that.

IMG_20220421_193717.jpg

It didn't happen, the fence was not harmed, I stayed outside, but the white horse came to greet me. It was a nice gesture and a surprise, as my target was to pick some loquats but I went home with plenty of wild asparagus and some dialogues with horses and a donkey.

Peace, walk and asparagus for dinner achieved, enough for someone to be satisfied. And go back next time for more loquats :))

Sort:

Yeah!!!! They are ripe…. Enjoy them @mipiano
Will have to have a look around if there are some near me now. I have not seen any on our drives/ walks out. Maybe the shop will have to do.
Love them too… they taste like an mandarin and apricot / plum cross kinda I think. Hahaha 🤣

And the wild asparagus are so nice too, great with olive oil, it is not that green where I live as at yours I see.

And those cute horses and mules… aaawww 🥰 how adorable.
Have a great day further 👋🏻😁
Still working on the photos to post my walk later… will travel to Cuba today 😉

Yeah, finally!!

I hope you can find some of those trees around, you know that they taste better if we find them hehehehe. Although in some of the markets they do sell good ones. Close to us, there is a town that has so many of them and they are the best. Probably the leader in the region in growing this fruit.

Hm, you are right, the taste is a mixture of apricot and plum, I would not mix mandarin in that combination though :)

I am an absolute fan now it picking asparagus... as before I was looking for mushrooms, not I am looking for asparagus 😂
Soon and they will be out of season.
I have to use every walk wisely hahahah :D

The horses and donkey are adorable indeed (oops, indeedy 😅)

Cuba 👌

Will have a look around this weekend to see.
I know they are best from the trees… 😉

Wow you are in a perfect spot so to hear. Enjoy them 🥰 also for me hahaha 🤣

Yep I always ok around for mushrooms but nothing… nada… lol

Sounds like a plan to organise your walks so you can enjoy what nature gives you.

There it is again… Indeedy… 😇

Thanks, Cuba was soooo great! 🥰

A beautiful walk in the fruit trees, I do believe I have tried Loquat but many years ago and to be honest I cannot remember what I thought of it, but that said I have never seen it growing on a tree

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Loquat is very common in my area, and close to us, there is a town that is dedicated to agriculture, the leader in loquat production. Very tasty ones.
We can see many loquat trees here, but the season doesn't last for a long time. A few weeks and they are gone.

Lovely pictures we've got here

Well, not a great proof, but if you want to believe me, I would be grateful :))

Sure will believe you on this one because the one you are holding is very riped. I was walking to my farm yesterday and that was how in my presence a mango fruit fell down right before my presence, at that particular moment I didn't find any reason I shouldn't pick the mango fruit thou am neither the owner of the tree nor the land where the tree is situated.
I understand what you trying to avoid which is very important to me too...
Nice post @mipiano

Wow, a mango? I would be super happy if a mango would fall right before me. I would also pick it up 👌
We also have many many orange trees around, it is the region where I live where the most common fruits we have are citrus fruits, almond trees and olive trees. Also, avocado and this loquat, but teh season of this one lasts just for a short time. I was waiting for them to be ripe already for some time :D

I've never heard of loquats before. I'm intrigued. They look like an apricot to me, only slightly different. Are they at all the same in taste as an apricot?

That's really cool that you can find wild asparagus.

You have never heard of loquats? Well, me neither, just when I came to Spain. It originates I think from China and also can be called Japanese plum, or Japanese medlar. ( weird, coming from Chine but named "Japanese". I don't know the reason btw)

Here in Spain, we call it nispero.

They do taste a bit like apricot, but sourer. Or something like between plums and apricot. They have big seeds inside.

The wild asparagus is priceless. I hunt them every time we go walking 😂
They taste so good, better than from the shop.

Chinese origin and a Japanese name, that's interesting. They sounds good.

They taste so good, better than from the shop.

I bet they would. Foraging is so much fun.

Foraging is so much fun.

:D

it is :))

So many beautiful pictures, never seen that fruit before, the texture looks like a ripe guava but, I know it's not, I feel like it will have a lot of vitamin c.

It is interesting seeing a donkey, never seen one before.

The fruit is not that common indeed. But in the are where I a situated, we are lucky to have them. The season of them doesn't last for a long time, so now I have to enjoy as much as I can as until next year no loquats can come to my plate.

Donkeys are also so typical for Spain and the Mediterranean countries, in the past they were used as a means of transport. They are just so cute and curious, I use to cuddle their snout when they come close to the fence. :))

It looks like it will be yummy, maybe one day, I will try it.

Donkeys are indeed so cute, I can't wait to have an adventure like this one day.

The loquat plantation looks amazing! We do have a loquat tree in our backyard but I have never got to taste them. I don't know why but I just admire them where they are haha. Glad you like their fruits.

The yellow flowers are fascinating, they made the place look cheerful :) And what a nice way to end your walk, having a wee time with those lovely animals hehe.

You have a loquat tree in your backyard and you have never tasted the fruit of it?
Please, do it :)))

You can not know do you like them if you don't try...but from my experience, I can just say, it is when you start to like it, your tree in the backyard will be harvested every year :))

Oh yeah, the yellow wildflowers are so cheerful, they make a good combination with the green grass. 🌼

Oh, I am a huge fan of loquats (asparagus, horses and donkeys as well, haha!). I love this fruit and I first tasted it when I moved to Crete 8 years ago. Since then, just like you, this time of year I observe their color changing :)

I laughed so much with your horse model :)) And what a beauty!

Lovely walk!

We have similar taste then :)))
And I also tried loquat for the first time when I moved here, it was pretty new taste for me! I like it so much that I can't wait every spring to have them ripe :))

Hahah, the horse model was cool, so calm, but not interested to come closer and have some cuddles. Just eating fresh grass :))
Usually I do cuddle them when they come closer to the fence.
Thanks for stopping by @traisto 😇

Wow! Look at all of those loquats!! There is a loquat sapling sitting on my front porch just waiting to be planted. Oooh I cannot wait until she starts to fruit. Few years off I suppose lol. What lovely hosts you had on your walk. I could talk with the animals for hours :D

Oh, plant it, plant it as quickly as you can, so it can grow and give you fruits as soon as possible ... well, yes, probably in some years :D

Dr. Dolittle would be jealous, as we talk to the animals :)))

Thanks for stopping by @tamaralovelace 😇

Oh my! I loved your walk and your photographs.. It was like I was there with you. We also have these fruits and the funny thing is that I saw such a tree today, in the middle of a dense city. I do not like them, but they are very healthy and nutritious!
I will write about my walk in a bit, but it is not as interesting as yours 😊🥰

Hello @katerinaramm

Such a coincidence you have seen this type of tree today. What I see in the cities here are orange trees. One can go to the street and go home with them hahaha, no need for a market :D

The couple from your post is an interesting detail 💜

Lovely, each and every one of your photos, story included :)

These asparagus are quite thick for the wild variety, a great catch!

@tipu curate

Hvala puno @ervin-lemark :))

The asparagus were very tasty, I picked plenty of them later :))

Molim. Kako kažete - šparoge? Za njih trebaš imati dobre i uvježbane oči :)

Dobro sam uvežbala oči ovih poslednjih nedelja, dok sezona traje 🤓

It was a very interesting fruit. it was the first time i saw loquat!!! I hope taste it one day, it must be very delicious 😊

Thank you for sharing this post and i'm so glad you introduced me to this fruit.

It is not a very common fruit, I think. I also saw it for the first time here in Spain. If you like apricots, but a mixture of sweet and sour... that is how loquat tastes... well, similar to that.

And I am glad you saw now this fruit. If you ever see it in real life, you will maybe remember this hive post 😇

I didn't know if this fruit until I watched a Vogue interview with Zendaya at her homeplace and she had these trees in the countyard and ate some fruits. But they seem like being very tasty ☺️

And they are tasty indeed, at least in my opinion :))
In our family, just I like them hahaha, but a lot :D

Me encantó este post!

gracias, me alegro que te gustó :))
bueno, ya tienes mi contacto de discord 👋

great pictures, landscape in the first photo is amazing

The first photo represents a huge land, full of fruit trees,
with a small house
and there are also roses in the front garden...a bench to chill outside... just a fantastic place indeed.
We walk many times there and this time it was so beautiful, so green :))

Thank you for stopping by @jsvasquez1986 😇

I have never heard or seen a loquat. But they look to me like what we call odara (star apple).
Those sunflowers are just too beautiful

I have checked what is star apple, but no, it is not like that inside. but indeed, it resembles a bit, looking the shape and colour of the fruit
