KP's, coffee and cookies

in OCD4 years ago

Today has been pretty cool. It's been a rare occasion to be honest as I got to spend it with one of my brothers and sister; We don't get together much as we live at different corners of Australia, a vast country. It's be a great day, hanging out, talking about the good old days and catching up with what's going on with each of our lives.

Of course all good catch-ups go a little better with coffee and coffee goes better with cookies...And there's been plenty of both.

My brother and sister have come to Adelaide to attend our father's funeral on Monday; A sad occasion of course as we love our father very much; Although whilst we're going to mourn his loss we also intend to celebrate and honour his life, and so us getting together is a combination of happy and sad I suppose.

Today we spent the whole day together at my house talking, having lunch and entertaining drop-in guests that seemed to pop around every hour or so. I don't normally like too many people at my house but it was nice to have my family there, and we all appreciated the condolences and company of other's dropping by. It was almost a constant coffee and cookie day as no sooner had we said goodbye to one set of friends, others turned up...More coffee and more cookies.

One of the coolest things was seeing my nephew again, my brothers 22-month old lad. He is the best little kid...Funny, intelligent and he loves uncle G-dog! It's because I'm the best uncle in the world. Don't believe me? Just ask @smallsteps, my niece.

It was so cool playing with my nephew and teaching him some new words, all good ones of course, and to hanging out with the little guy who is as cute as can be!

Since my dad died just over a week ago I have been having a pretty torrid time of it; I have't said much here, but I've been struggling a bit, emotionally. I've had a lot on my mind I guess. Having my brother and sister here, and the support from my wife Faith and our friends has been such an important aspect though and I feel a little energised now, and more able to push on into the funeral day and beyond.

Getting a few of the KP's together is always an interesting time...Laughs are a guarantee! It would have been cool if my two brothers from Finland could have also be here but we will have to make do without them as they can't travel here due to the flu-situation.

KP's, coffee and cookies is a good combination though, even with only three fifths of us...And I had a great day today. I'm feeling good.

I hope your weekend is going great also team. I hope that you will head on over to the #weekend-engagement post for this week...There's 100 hive to win, and some fun to be had. Follow the link here to the post on how to enter.

It's nice to hear that your spirits are more typically light-hearted now with KP family around, at least three-fifths of them! Having loved ones around you does wonders to heal the soul. Also, that is a mighty fine cookie there. I've genuinely no idea as to what sort of cookie that is, but it looks very taste indeed!

Being the KP gang around, I was surprised that Oreos were not served instead. I was just having a cuppa hot cocoa, and I can confirm that Oreos dunked in chocolate-malt is better than milk! Maybe I should try this out with chocolate milk next, eh? 🥛🍫

We haven't deployed Oreo's yet, but after the funeral today we are heading back to a friend's place to gather and hang out all together and we'll have Tim Tam's. Better than an Oreo, and Australian! Google it.

I've tried out Tim Tams, and this is the first time I've learned that it's a by-product of your peoples. Indeed, it's a mighty delicious thing, and one that's thankfully easy enough to find on shelves here :-D

I'm not surprised they're on the shelves there...The awesomeness that is a Tim Tam is irrepressible.

Ooooh... they're very awesome, and that's one of the things that I can thank Australia the most for 😁. I remembered back in Uni, one of my mates would keep a huge stock of snacks in his locker. He never locked it, so the rest of us would sneak in there to "borrow" a Tim Tam or two. Not only have I turned a blind-eye to this heinous crime, but I've participated in it, myself. I'm a terrible friend 🙃

I was on a shopping run with my brother at Woolworths just now...What did I find?

Yeah, you know it! Half price too

Oh. My. YES! Though I can't ever hope I'll see this anytime soon, because with two KPs to feed, those Tim Tams are going to be out of stock very quickly!

There is always room for coffee and cookies. Coffee by itself just doesn't have enough calories to keep a fat boy happy, but adding cookies makes all the systems balance.

Miss the man, celebrate the life. Tell some stories that you will remember the rest of your life. I think that's about the best we can do in the circumstance.

Coffee is the fuel my life runs on. Lol.

Yes, it's been good recalling the good old days and dad. A few laughs and tears I guess too.

So good to know that you guys are together my friend.

Yes, it is a sad occasion that gathered you, but together in unison will make things a bit easier.
All of the best for Monday and from this side we will keep our promise!

Strength and blessings to all of you!

Thank you sir, for your Monday-promise. I told my family about this and they were pleased to hear it. This is something my dad would do, so it seems fitting someone will do it for him in return.

We will be honored to do it for your dad and he wants us to do it also for you guys and the rest of the family my friend.

You're good people you know. Thank you.

Same as you people my friend, same!

Thank you kindly

I have just drink my big cup of Turkish Coffee...

Have a great weekend too...

I don't mind Turkish coffee. Had it only a few times though. Hoping to get to Turkey someday too; Want to pay my respects at the Australian War Memorial at Gallipoli.

Well come and be my guest with my all respect...We can travel to Çanakkale where all martyries are. It is a really spiritual and emotive place for us...On the other hand I am always sorry for Australian martyries...But as you know The Great Britain is the real responsible about this situation.

Have a great weekend...

I would pay my respects to all who fought and fell in the conflict, although as An Australian my focus would be on the Australian aspect. I am, if nothing else in life, a proud Australian.

In this war between France+England and Ottoman Empire,I reckon the sides of this war. A country which was attacked by the other countries occasionally defendes itself. There were a lot of young people and child die in the Turkish side because there were no soldier because of the other war sides. But even though I am sorry for the all sides martyries and also pay my respect whoever fought and died in this war. Actually all these things are in the past. We all look for the future...Thinking such things makes people feel bad...

Have a good day my friend...

Glad you are feeling a bit better and must be good having other family around.

Thanks mate...Just been a difficult time I guess, a lot going on in our own lives and the added stress of the other stuff. All good though. We'll get it sorted.

Yes it will all work out.

hello dear friend @galenkp good day
It is good to read that you are a little better, and that the company of your brothers and visits of your friends have stolen a few other laughs, remembering with the brothers and celebrating life, undoubtedly makes for a good time.
Have a wonderful weekend

Have a great weekend yourself too!

Sounds great, cookies, coffee, family and friends. We do not always have the opportunity to be reunited with our loved ones but these moments are valuable and as you say they fill us with energy and strength to continue in spite of life's sad moments

We had cake too...And I made the most awesome toasted sandwiches for lunch...But coffee and cookies worked for the title. 😂

I hope you're having a nice weekend Sofi.

Wish we could be there. Can we do a call tomorrow and what time would be good to catch you?

Hmm, later your time will work ok. Today. Maybe 6is Adelaide time? I'll message though. We are all going to the cemetery to lay some flowers on grandma and Nana's grave, our other grandma's and mums. Having lunch at Maya's at J Street.

I always enjoy family gatherings, meeting my sisters and cousins. As most of us live in different parts of the coutnry, we usually meet only once or twice a year. Always cherish those days.

Family catch ups are very important indeed.

Lol, with this family gathering of yours, I am beginning feel like being there so I can eat all the coffee and cookies🤣🤣. Don't mind me😊Anyways, it nice seeing you guys catching the fun of a lifetime.

I make good coffee so I don't blame you...And the cookies...Well, cookies are always good right? Even bad cookies are good cookies.

Lolzzz..yea you are right. Cookies are always good and I have no doubt you make good ☕

What a wonderful way to have some family time, cookies and coffee!

Food makes good company better and good company makes average food better too. Not that cookies are average...They're awesome. 🙂

I agree with you on this. Great company can make everything better. Who doesn't love cookies? 🍪😍😍

Coffee + Cookies = Perfect combination.

I was going to say, depends on the cookies...But it really doesn't. Any cookies! Lol.

Bittersweet times man. Although in my 'fakedeep' philosophical way, I would say that you cannot have bittersweet without the sweet. I was gonna say something about the glass being half full, but now I realise that sounds pathetic, your glass is quite severely cracked right now, but at least you have been able to take some comfort in and enjoy the chance to re-connect and catch up with those who are especially important to you.

Siblings are weird people, sometimes you talk to them like you're an actual grownup, but it always comes back to that thing that they grew up with you, they know you, I mean really know you! Your faults, embarrassing stories, your 'angsty' teenage, or older insecurities, heartbreaks and mistakes. Often they see through a lot of the bluff and bluster that we accrue as the years pass. Most terrifying of all, they have pictures!!! The only saving grace is that you know them equally well. No matter how well you get on or don't, there is a bond that is forged in common interests, events and people. You share so many intersecting moments, each of them mean something.

Right now you share a bong that none of you ever wanted but you are in the company of those who know exactly how it is!

Getting a few of the KP's together is always an interesting time...Laughs are a guarantee!

Oh man, if there was one thing I would wish for you right now it's that good company and laughs, preferably lots of them! Dude you seem to be the only one surprised at the struggle to get a hold of your emotions, thank F you ain't a robot! Sometimes it feels like that would be preferable... It wouldn't!!! You haven't been to the dentist for a filling, you have suffered something profound that needs time, processing and adaption down the line.

I'm sure the other two fifths were present today in their own way as well as Mum and Dad and likely a few others from along the journey.

I sincerely hope there was some celebratory feeling in the air today. Sorry, I always mean to go a little easy on you with the bloody character count while you are not quite you. I want to wish you something but I never quite know the word. Some ways of saying it sound right and some sound far from it. I wish you something akin to closure although that's not it, it may be resolution, I'm not sure, maybe the best way to put it is that maybe today allows you to step along a pathway for the next bit of life, albeit a slightly/massively different life depending on the day. I imagine you will know what I'm wishing you better than I am able to articulate it. Whatever it is, I hope you have it.

Take great care my friend. Wishing you the happiest day that is possible, just know you have mates around when you want a 'whatever'. It is not the same as family but some of them have become quite skilled at taking the piss out of you, or dropping you down a peg, oh! you know what I mean, I think.

I keep messing up the time difference, sorry, I guess by the time you read this I will be referring to yesterday.

All you say is true and correct. Yesterday was bittersweet indeed, a balance of emotions. It was a nice day though, family-oriented and a good send off for dad.

My siblings and don't get to spend much time together, due to distance, and as time changes a person it is interesting to see who we are each time we get together. I'm glad for each of them though, and we talk a lot on the phone. I'm happy to have the two here with me that could make it.

Thanks for your message Steven. I'm sorry my answers are a little cursory at the moment due to time constraints, but it's been good to receive the messages and support from the community.
