Exploring New Features and Changes in Hive Blog!

in OCD4 years ago

After several months of contribution and dedication Hive devs have come up with some exciting new features. Honestly, I am very happy because I waited for some of these features.

Hive Blog is improving constantly by coping with new technologies. The latest version of the open-source cendenser software has been deployed which gives more security and durability than restrictive software.

In the recent update, developers have deployed new features, fixed some bugs, and onboarded new version of Hive Blog. You can check out the list of new features and condenser fixes from @blocktrades's recent post - Hive.blog just got updated!

Here I would like to talk about some new and updated features which I liked most.

Hivesigner-based Login

Till now Hive used regular login window like all decentralized social media. Now Hive blog is one step ahead according to security, flexibility, and smartness by adding another login method named Hivesginer.

Hivesigner is a signer app for Hive which will act as a safe storage for your keys. Honestly, I feel safer to use Hivesigner than the regular login method. In the traditional method, I saved my keys or password in the browser for fast login. There's a possibility of fraud if somehow someone can hack into my laptop.

In Hivesigner, you have to submit your Master or Active key only once. After then, you'll be able to login to your Hive account using a new Hivesigner password. And your keys will be saved to Hivesigner forever. So basically someone can get your Hivesigner password, but won't be able to get your keys. I believe experts and Hive devs can tell about more benefits of Hivesigner.

I always write articles for newcomers. So let's learn how to use Hivesigner for the first time.

After clicking on "Hivesigner" a new window like the following screenshot will open. Click on "Import Account".

Here you have to input your username and master password/active key.

In the next window, you have to submit your new password which will be used as Hivesigner login. This will be the password that you'll use every time to log on to your Hive account. Click on "Import account" after setting your new password.

Here, by clicking on "Authorize", you're giving your posting authority to Hive blog to interact with it.

You have to go through this process for the first time. From next, you'll be able to log in every time with your username and Hivesigner password.

Changes in cross-posts

Nowadays cross-posting is popular among many Hivers as it allows to post the same content on another blog or community and provides more engagement.

Previously we have seen just a few words like "This is a cross-post of bla bla bla" in the cross-post. We had to click on the post link again to read the actual post. Recent update lessened that lengthiness and cross-posts now look smart. After the recent update, you can see -

  • The summary of the actual post.

  • After clicking on the cross-post you'll be able to read the actual post directly.

Extended posts and post editor

After updates, post editor and blog's frame is wider, so that we can read and see more things within less screen. It looks more user friendly now. I don't have the ability to show you the comparison between the past and the recent version. So I went to Steemit to show you the difference. I really feel sorry for Steemit. No new things, no updates, no attraction and it's dying slowly after going to the wrong hand!

As you can see in the screenshot, the recent version of Hive blog is wider than the previous version. For the same article recent version took less than 2 lines than the previous version. So, space isn't wasted anymore.

I used one of the @sidwrites's article to show you the comparison. Follow Sidwrites for impressive Hive related content.

Toggling of side-by-side post editor

You can now enable or disable side-by-side editor by clicking on "Enable/Disable side-by-side editor" beneath the tag box.

It will provide you more flexibility while writing. Previously there was only side by side editor. Now down preview is also available. Though I like side preview most. It allows me to see my post previews while writing in the same window.

New Version of Hive Wallet

Update has come with the new version of Hive wallet. Actually, two new features have been added. One is the Hivesigner login, another one is the proposal ID.

As like Hive blog, you can now use Hivesigner to login to your wallet. It provides more security over your wallet.

Previously it wasn't possible to see proposal ID number in proposal window. Now you can see an ID that will be useful for voting via command-line wallet.

In this article, I just mentioned the features I explored. There're a lot of other features and fixes in the update like -

  • Fix bad iframe content display.
  • Fixed a bug setting profile settings.
  • Fix display of posts with embedded twitter links.
  • Fix display of posts with embedded twitch links.
  • Fixed a bug with keychain etc

Check out this post to learn more about the update.

Hats off to all Hive Devs!
