Thoughts on the @ssg-community proposal

I'm not sure how long this post will be so before I lose you I just want to say thanks and give MAD PROPS to @welshstacker!!

The guy is an SSG/SGS ROCKSTAR and I just can't say enough good things about him, so I won't ;) (Welshie, DM me for list of accolades XD).

Change

It's necessary for survival, from the important things in life to the trivial. I know I am not saying anything new but change happens whether we embrace it or not. As with most proposals for change (at any level) there is support and opposition, discussion, and a resolution. Again, I know you know this but I mention it to give PROPERS (see above) to @buggedout for getting the ball rolling on some possible changes to our community, specifically the @ssg-community account.

It's not easy to put yourself out there like that as you never can tell how folks will react and it's no fun to start a shitstorm, so thanks @buggedout. I was bummed when you turned over the keys and announced you were taking a break from the platform. Your contributions the SSG/SGS community are many and I bet most of them are not general knowledge, such as the fact that you have never stopped helping Welshie with the bot behind the scenes. I even saw you in the comments now and again!

I am not a programmer but I do know (I think) that computer code is kind of a living thing and needs lots of attention to keep running at optimal performance so, while you may not have been publicly engaged this last year or so, I believe your behind the scenes work has definitely helped keep the few of us that still post (and get an upvote) together.

The Vote

Today @ssg-community posted a proposal for change and is asking for us to vote on these changes. I know clicking to another post in the middle of this post is annoying but go read the post if you don't know about the proposed changes (you can even return to this post to read the rest if you want). ;)

The (abridged) Proposal :)

There are just two proposals on the table, one is a "Vote Allocation Accrual" and boils down to this.

What I am proposing here is that instead of getting say a 10% vote every day, if you don’t post for 3 full days then your vote allocation accrues and you will get a 3 x 10% = 30% vote (capped at 100%).

Now that is just one sentence form the proposal but I think it's a pretty straight forward idea. I would like to see all the specifics (numbers) for how this would work so we all know what to expect but I would vote yes for this if I had to vote today.

The second proposal is a "Tag Qualification and Enforcement" proposal. I like the tag qualification.

Tag Qualification is about setting up ssg-community to only vote on subscribing members posts which use the #SilverGoldStackers tag.

Again, a straight forward idea. Use the #silvergoldstakers tag, get a vote. Obviously, one would only use the tag on a precious metals-related post and this is where the vote allocation accrual comes into play. Post about metals once or twice a week and get your accrued vote(s). Post other quality content, no ssg-community vote. I'm good with that.

Enforcement

Shit. Here we go. This one is not so cut and dry in the proposal and frankly, I cannot vote on the proposal as a whole until the enforcement section is expanded and clarified.

I fucking hate rules. I know, they have their place, and I even follow some in my daily life, but writing a set of rules quantifying acceptable content is tricky at best. From the proposal,

The Tag Enforcement is about ensuring that only relevant content is posted to the tag.

Okay, this sentence seems straight forward and maybe it is just that simple, "relevant" = precious metal related.

I think the operative word there is related.

  • Post a coin a day with some info on said coin like @ronavel
  • Wrap the coin you are showing in some epic fiction like @kerrislravenhill
  • Get in on one of Tag Master @silverd510's daily tags
  • Sprinkle your metal posts with some videos of the coins like @silversaver888
  • Drop some copper rounds on a hike for some lucky hiker to find in the future like me
  • Document your trips to the LCS, pawn shop, thrift store as you search for PMs (@fat-elvis or @monsterjamgold style)
  • Talk about the market
  • Post a deals you find online even if you didn't buy.
  • Hold a raffle

Okay, I'll stop because I think you get the point. Posting content "relevant" to precious metal is not as hard as it might seem. Be creative, you can do it, but if you post a video of yourself almost being killed by a Canadian goose you don't get that vote.

I would only ask for the "relevant content" and the "enforcement" (barf) sections in the @ssg-community proposal to be more clear before we put them to a vote. If these parameters are not clearly spelled out at the beginning I believe it will lead to some (avoidable) problems.

Summery

Nope.

I am just about typed-out here so I guess you have to read the whole post. I'll just say that this is my opinion and I am just one of many here so I invite you, if you feel so inclined, to make your voice heard on this as well. I know I'd be glad to read what you think, whether I agree or not I love this community and I am interested in what you think.

Sort:

I think our views are pretty much similar. @ssg-community was and is an account created to support the #silvergoldstackers community and posts about PRECIOUS METALS!!

Yes. The only problem I see is that in the past we let folks who maintained a delegation to receive a vote. I guess the thinking was that the upvote value would be bigger for all. I do believe we will lose most of those delegation-only members if this proposal is passed (read: smaller vote for those left) and I'm still trying to decide how I feel about that (it's not the vote value I care about, it's losing members who delegate and interact but might not post PMs).

Well presented and clear! 🤗

And extra props and propers for @welshstacker and @buggedout.
🙌🏻 🙌🏻

Thanks @dfinney! I appreciate the work you do for the community as well!
#props

I spoke my peace yesterday. At this point let the knights in shining armor come and save the community.
I’ll keep posting, I’ll comment when i have the time and i upvote daily.
From reading the comments on several different posts this is turning into the same shit as the forums for coins, and also the reason i left. So I’ll just shut up and post from now on.

I hear ya and even agree with most of it ;)
I believe there will be some discussion and we will come to a resolution pretty quick, then it'll back to almost no one posting but you, Rono and 888! Haaahahahahaha!

Seriously though, I think we can work this out and I think it will fall in line with the things you said yesterday in the chat.

👏👏👏 thanks for this. I was thinking about how else I could post about stacking and honestly didnt know what would be deemed acceptable aside from purchases, market analysis or coin info.

Sure thing @bearone. I do not want to lose folks like you who might not post on the regular or don't have a million different coins to post. I think the bar for what a precious metals post will be set pretty low, as it should be and I think anyone with a bit of creativity can figure out something.

Thanks love ❤

It was actually really helpful to see the looking but not buying option since I do that all the time lol Glad to know I can post about my window shopping sprees 😂

I'd hate to leave the community since I've been in it for years. I've learned so much and have met some wonderful people so I'd very much like to stay. But who knows what will happen and what changes will be made. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You are 100% correct, if your are smart enough to be a stacker your are diffently smart enough to come up with a post that is about the one thing we all love so dearly. When we started this it was very import to have the delegation, this was the life line for SSG. But just like most things in life " if you don't stir up then you're left with 2 flavors in one cup. Just a simple stir and you have one flavor. One thing I can say is this..... friendship doesn't mean we talk everyday, it doesn't mean that we will even talk every week. What it does mean is when we do talk we enjoy that moment, like there was never a period of not talking. I have a lot of friends in this group that I still talk to one on one in discord. I would hope that each and everyone of them feel like I have their back and if they ever need something all they have to do is ask. Thats my definition of community and friendship all in one. Appreciate you @summertooth.

Thanks Ray! You 100% have the highest standards when it comes to the bot and what it votes on and I know you pay attention to what is going on here, even if you have not been posting or commenting much. I waste spend a lot of time on discord and I can say, in my experience you are always available and usually show up on short notice.

I love what you said about friendship,

What it does mean is when we do talk we enjoy that moment, like there was never a period of not talking.

Spot on dude, both in our community and in "real life" ;)

Thanks for all you do for #silvergoldstackers

Great post @summertooth I appreciate the kinds words and your acknowledgement that I've been a bit of a pariah since putting the proposal up. You get it.

Your list of relevant material examples is excellent. I had started putting a list of ideas together in my head to help members but you've nailed it. It's hard to code that sort of thing into the bot, but we can scan the tag regularly and moderate to some degree.

The community used to do lots of swaps and unboxings, competitions, even writing about meetups (like when Damus and Ron got together), shenanegins, fiction (about each other) and even stories or puff pieces about newcomers or old timers. As long as its community and/or metals focused I think most of us are happy.

It's the vibe and I think we'll know it when we see it.

image.png

Thanks Bugged! I think a good percentage of the folks currently posting might not know all you've done to keep us together and I think it's important to note.

Those examples are really just a short list but I'm glad to hear the standards are low loose ;)

I mean, are you posting a #wednesdaywalk? Well, why not snap a shot or two of your #pocketpiece and blab a few lines about why you take it with you. Maybe you were browsing the online silver shops and one of them is having a contest, well, take a few screen-shots and post it up so we can enter the contest as well. I'll stop here before I give away all my shitpost vote-qualifying ideas but I think you get the point. :o

I feel the same, it's as much intent as it is the content, aka; #thevibe

d6376289fbb33b9f6616ef0d082d3c99.gif

Yes, the standards will be pretty loose but there would be a line drawn somewhere and I'm not sure where that might be. I already know there will be some who will push the boundaries and if (for example) someone thinks they can make 7 actifit posts a week and throw in a picture of a silver piece at the bottom and say "this was in my pocket" so that they can use the tag to "qualify" for a vote I don't think that's going to pass the sniff vibe test.

I think it will be pretty obvious if people are just trying to shoehorn non-related content onto the tag simply to get a vote from ssg-community.

This proposal (and vote) is really about members deciding whether they want the community account to be promoting content that is relevant and adds value to the broader SilverGoldStackers community or whether they don't care about content and it's just about being a member and the content doesn't matter.

You make a compelling argument.

I can understand the term 'Relevant' may be a bit tricky to pin down to everyone's satisfaction.
You can add this bullet to the list, I wrote on coins I didn't have or own but on a Wish list as the basis of a few articles. Lol! 😄

Good post on clarifying but I can't justify staying at gold level because I do want to post about more than just precious metals. Life is random, so are we😎
