When and how much do you sleep?

You're never too young or old to have a bedtime 🥱🛌😴

I'm a firm believer that human beings ideally should be going to sleep and waking up with the sun. That means you should be waking up in the morning just before the sun begins to rise so that you do not miss out on precious daylight. You also should begin to wind down after the sunsets and darkness fall.

For me right now, the sunrise is at 7:30 am and the sunset is at 7:40 pm. I do wake up with the sun, but I stay up several hours after sunset. If I didn't, I'd be sleeping 12 hours a day and I just don't need that much rest. I always feel great with a solid 7-8 hours.

There are some places in the world where during parts of the year, there is no such thing as nighttime. In those instances, I imagine people's bodies get really confused about when exactly they should be sleeping. Think of Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, or even Alaska. They are all very north on planet earth and each of them has a time period where it stays daylight 24-7 for a time period. People that live in those areas don't seem to be falling apart because of that, so I assume that we can bend the rules of sleep quite a bit.

I've had a time period where I worked the night shift. Back then, I always seemed to be tired and couldn't ever find the optimum levels of sleep. I was awake after sunrise every single day and it begins to affect me in negative ways. I wrecked two cars during this time and that is something I never had done before. I also haven't done it again since getting back on a good sleep schedule. I blame those car wrecks on long-term sleep deprivation.

One way that I make sure I go to bed and wake up at the same time is Apple's innovative bedtime settings. Your phone will alert you that it is time to start getting ready for bed and then it silences all notifications during a certain window of time. This means you don't ever have to worry about getting woken up by a vibrating iPhone. Once it's time to wake up, your alarm goes off and you know it is time to start the day. I've gotten into such a habit that I usually wake up a few moments before my alarm goes off. I sometimes stay up past my bedtime and get less sleep than I'd like, but I try to make that a rare thing so that I'm always feeling rested.

I'm curious when all of your sleep. I know all of us are on different schedules and some people don't have the option to sleep exactly when they'd like to. I consider myself lucky that I can go to bed and wake up at whatever time I choose. My schedule is extremely flexible and I think that is why it's so easy for me to sleep so consistently.

Comment below with your bedtime settings. When do you go to sleep and wake up?

I go to sleep around 9 or 10 and wake up around 6 or 7. These past few weeks, I have been getting a lot better sleep ever since we got our grounding pillow cases and grounding mat for the bed. It has been pretty cool and we feel great.

That's how it's done right there. I am curious to know more about your grounding pillow cases and mats. I've heard of grounding mats for the computer but have never used one before.

Got any links so I can read more?

This will literally change your life man.

Perfect. I’ve got it added to my watch later. Thanks man.

Don’t forget to watch it. It can really change your life.

You are damn well right on that one!! I was to force myself to go to bed 😂😂 and have to force myself to wake up 😂😂😂

You must love being awake as much as I do. I think once I learned how fun dreaming can be, that's when I learned to love sleep just about as much as being awake.

See here's the thing.... It's weird. I smoke weed and when I smoke weed I don't dream.. Well i probably do but I don't remember it that well... And when I decide to go on a break.. I have these weird and very vivid dreams for about a week.... Like very active dreams... And then after a week maybe two it would start to calm down into normal dream where I can remember and sometimes control the dreams.. But by then I'll be puffing away again... And I've spoken to a few friends of mine... Some say they have similar experiences and some say they don't...

Weird... But I am not fond of those vivid and busy dreams... Sometimes they even make me feel nauseous...

When I started learning about the best ways to gain control your dreams many years ago, one of the things I learned was that going to bed high can make it difficult. I still do sometimes, but honestly the nights where I’m totally normal when I fall asleep always seem to result in the most vivid and memorable dreams.

Generally, yes, but there are places on Earth where the Sun does not set at all or the night lasts 24 hours. And then what?

Then it is time to get a coffin and pretend you are Dracula 🧛🏼‍♂️

Every person has their own schedule and I used to go to sleep at 12 am and wake up at 7.30 am. But nowadays it's very variable. It's between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. I am open to suggestions haha. I wonder how other people sleep.

I think staying up until midnight is okay, but not much after that unless it's a special occasion.

Well, I used to sleep till 2am or 3am and woke up 10am, but nowadays, because I'm on vacation from university, that's why I sleep 4am and wake up 12pm.

I used to stay up super late like that and wake up halfway through the day. I don't want to miss out on daylight like that again though.

Sleep is very essential in human life. You have brought up your beautiful views about sleep. It is said that waking up early in the morning and going to bed early is very beneficial for health. Nowadays I try to follow this principle of going to bed very early and waking up very early in the morning when the morning weather is nice.

I think if you follow those guidelines you will feel great in life.

I'm really trying to sleep 8 hours but sometimes I need to wake-up early, But I can't fall asleep until after 12.

There's a day or two every few weeks that I only sleep 6 hours, but I try not to make it a regular thing because I always feel extra tired later that night.

I sleep by 10 pm and wake up by 6 am on my own. 😊
How easy and systematically you explain everything 🙌🏻❤️

That is the ideal schedule right there. You must be on a very good sleep routine.

I try to go to bed around 10 and wake up around 6-7. I shoot for around eight hours per night. It works for me.

You're doing great! Keep at that and surely it will enable you to live a longer and happier life.

Science says at least 8 hours. I gnerally go to bed at max 10:30pm and wake up naturally around 7am. If I'm absolutely tired I wake up, drink water and crash until 9am or so -- it all depends, since I like to let my body decide. If I have a cycling race (generally they are early in the morning) I go to bed earlier. And then after midday nap xD

Our bodies do a great job of alerting us to what we need. If you have dark circles under your eyes for instance, it's a clear sign that you did not sleep enough the night prior.

Yup, and the worst thing to destroy our health is the alarm. Walking up in the middle of the deep sleep cycle kills our regeneration process.

You are absolutely right that early to bed and early to rise are signs of a healthy and good life. By going to bed early and waking up early, our health is also good and the human body is also refreshed. Many people do not like to sleep and wake up on time, due to which they suffer from depression.

Comparing my life with a bad sleep schedule to resting very well like I do now is a drastic difference.

I usually sleep about six hours plus an afternoon nap of 1 hour.

I always try to fall asleep by midnight and am awake by six in the morning.
In the afternoon I usually sleep from 3 to 4 pm, or in any case in the afternoon I go to sleep immediately after lunch after having a coffee... if instead of an hour I do an hour and a half it doesn't make me sick eh eh!

Consider that six or seven hours is enough for me, but I love to sleep 😉

Sometimes breaking up your sleep like that can be a useful tactic. I much prefer doing it all at once and thus never needing to nap.

yea, that must be so weird.. to sleep with a constant sun or no sun, or however it is..

i get 8-9 hrs, but still am slow in the mornings. :P

8-9 is plenty good. I am slow for the first 20-30 minutes, but one I get going it’s hard to slow down.

:) awesome,

I am the same way as u, but trade the word 'minutes' for 'hours'

:P

Great question.

I sleep not enough, and poorly. These last few weeks, I've been going to bed (or falling asleep) at 2AM, and then waking up at 7 or 8AM. Today (a workday) I slept into to 830AM, which is not normal for me.

I need to figure out how to get more "restful" sleep.

Oh wow that’s got to be brutal. I slept like that in the last and really hope I never have to live with that low amount of sleep ever again. Forcing yourself to go to bed before midnight seems like the first step.

Gotta switch my mind off first :D

correct, sleeping also renews our brain and body in general, just essential body function

It's essential to humans being able to function optimally.

Sleep is one of my weaknesses... after spending many years working up to 15/16 hours a day I lost my "clock". My sleep is unfortunately somewhat staggered... not a good thing.

That seems like a bit too much work. I personally would find a way to find more time to recover.

Sometimes life makes demands.

I go to sleep at 12 o'clock in the night and wake up at 10 o'clock in the morning, this routine is not right for me either. I am also trying to go to sleep at 10 o'clock at night and wake up at 8 o'clock in the morning. When a person wakes up in the morning and goes outside for the cool air, he feels very relaxed.

Sleep is necessary for good health. One should get enough sleep to relax his mental and physical health. This would be really difficult for Alaska, Greenland and northern countries

I think we all can sleep properly if we make an attempt. Just make sure your room is dark and there are no loud noises.
