Authorized Testing of the Software

Nestor had given names to the two major parts of the NeMo software:

  • NeMo-OS was the lowest part, directly on the computer hardware, not directly involved in driving the truck.
  • NeMo-Truxoft, the truck driving part, was built on top of NeMo-OS.

In December 2026, the NeMo Trucking Software company was confident that trucks with NeMo-Truxoft had reached level 4. They applied to the regulatory instances in British Columbia and Alberta to be able to test self-driving trucks using their software.

They got the authorizations in mid-January 2027. They then installed the software on their two trucks and also on Paramvir's truck. And they started to do trips between Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.

As it was in winter, oftentimes the software detected that the conditions were not met for high-speed cruising, because it was raining hard, it was snowing, or the road was not dry. In these cases, the driver needed to have their hands on the steering wheel of the truck, and this was detected by the software.

During all these trips, the software was recording a lot of data that Nestor and Moana checked after each trip.

In March 2027, the NeMo company issued a press release to publicize its software and the tests that they were doing.

Because they explained that the goal of the software was to be safe and secure, several startups that were building self-driving trucks were interested and contacted them.

So, they invited these companies to send representatives to visit them and even to take trips with one of them.

And Nestor, Moana, and Paramvir started to make trips with testing drivers/engineers from these various companies from British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Oregon, and even California.
