Weekend-engagement topic week 50: The natural world

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago

"The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration."

I'd say that's a fair comment that relates quite well to myself; I spend so much time surrounded by nature, seeking the solace and peace I find there, and feel inspired by it. I cannot claim these words as my own, it seems Claude Monet, the author of that quote, loved nature as much as I, but they certainly align closely with my own ethos.

Welcome to Friday and week 50 of the #weekend-engagement topic - I hope you have all had a great week and are ready for the weekend ahead.

If you're not familiar with the #weekend-engagement concept you need to respond to the topic in the comments section of this post. The idea is that you stay around and engage with others too - It's all about engagement and building relationships so get involved and engaged with the other hivers and, above all else, have some fun.

On Monday I'll transfer hive to a few of you who engage below, just for your commenting. It's an easy concept - Just get engaged. It's not a competition, simply a chance to interact with a few other hivers in the community and to have fun with the community.

Weekend-engagement topic week 50

Shows us one of your pictures of the natural world

In the comments below drop a picture you have taken of the natural world and explain why you selected it, what you like about it or the moment in which it was taken.

The image must be your own and can be of anything from the natural world at all, trees, sunrise, sunset, the ocean, mountains, beach, mushrooms, your vegetable garden, wilderness, animals, the sky...Just make sure it's your own image and explain why you selected it or about the moment in which you took the photo.

This is not a photography competition, you don't need to be an award-winning photographer, and phone photos are welcome. Just get involved with a photo of your choice with an explanation.

Read this bit so you know what to do. ☝️

20191007_150750_3 (1).jpg

This is my photo above, my choice to share with you.

I took it with my phone from a helicopter above a mountain range that runs between Mt Larkins and Centaur Peaks north of Queenstown, New Zealand. I was on the way back to Queenstown from a visit to Mount Earnslaw Burn, a huge glacier-carved valley where I got to spend ninety minutes exploring one of the most amazing places I've ever been.

The helicopter company I charted have the sole-right to land in the Burn so there was no one else there, besides the pilot, and I was left feeling very small and insignificant when surrounded by such a majestic natural location. It was a special moment indeed.

That's the topic for this week folks. You have until very late Sunday night your time to get your response into the comments below and I hope you'll engage this week as it'll be good to see you around over the weekend. Have a great weekend whether you engage or not.

Even with all our technology and the inventions that make modern life so much easier than it once was, it takes just one big natural disaster to wipe all that away and remind us that, here on Earth, we're still at the mercy of nature.

For me nature is simply magical, able to recharge my energies completely so I could not avoid coming here when I saw this publication, and I immediately thought of this picture, I took it a couple of months ago on one of my last trips to my parents' farm, there I was sitting with my son on the side of the road, we were for more than two hours in that area and we never saw a car or a person, so peaceful we were, that my son was quiet for so long, so magical is nature, able to calm a little boy who usually is not quiet for more than 5 minutes.

Being there, feeling that peace, the breeze crashing against us, hearing the sound of the river in the background and the birds everywhere, is something that I can hardly feel at home and that is why I love it so much.

PicsArt_05-21-09.44.31.jpg

It's always nice to get away from other people, find some peace and quiet...And the sound of water running in natural places is always nice.

Thanks for sharing.

!ENGAGE 20

I try to get away whenever I can, it's renewing, a meditation under a tree or by the river doesn't compare to many other things!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Nature envelopes us into a much better frame of mind, we live with constant noise, perhaps more breaks out to your parents @fmbs25

Being in nature brings a lovely peace, the sounds of the animals, the breeze hitting the trees and even the sound of the silence itself is wonderful, the nights in this place are so relaxing.

Anywhere in nature is a bonus, one really has to get out to enjoy at least once a year.

Ain't no way this isn't an African country..

Isn't it strange how what others see as a wonderful work of nature is just another mundane place to others because they see it day in day out..
It's quite weird

It is like this, the people who live in this place, see me strange when I start to photograph wild flowers or even the river, I see something different every time I visit the place, on the other hand they often do not notice this kind of details because for them it is already an everyday thing.

it's such a strange thing when you think about it.. i guess beauty is indeed in the eyes of the beholder

Sounds magical!
I think we need more of those moments in life...
They can be therapeutic!

Which country is this?

This is Venezuela, and as you say, it is something therapeutic, when I am going through stressful moments, a weekend in this place leaves me refreshed.

Your Monet quote reminded me of another French artist and the hike I did on Cézanne's mountain in 2003.
img_0.1349015926751744.jpg

Mont Sainte-Victoire is in France and overlooks Aix-en-Provence (the town where Cézanne was born). Cézanne painted the mountain over 60 times. I had seen his work in art museums and it was a thrill for me to see the real thing! I brought home a pocket full of stones that I picked up off the mountain trail, and gave one to a dear friend who had a Cezanne print hanging above her fireplace. She still keeps the rock near the painting.

img_0.15104361654380183.jpg

Paul Cézanne, the post-impressionist - Yep, he knows his way around a brush-stroke. I actually don't, but had an artist-father and so I know some stuff about art and artists. Who would have thought the old knucklehead G-dog was cultured? Lol.

Isn't it so fulfilling to actually visit the places we've read about, seen in movies, studied or simply been interested in...I find it so anyway. I have not been to the Aix-en-Provence region despite spending a lot of time in France, but it's on the list.

!ENGAGE 20

I've been to Monaco and watching pre race events today has been one of those times. I even remember the tastes and smells.

!ENGAGE 25

I was only saying that last night as I have also been there a few times. Costly, but worth a look. I watched the changing of the guards at the palace one time which was really cool, but in truth it's all cool. I had one of the best spaghettis ever in Monaco and, of course, a martini at the Casino de Monte-Carlo...Lost 50E too. Dang it. lol.

I have a picture of the fountain with the big convex round mirror in it at Casino Square...I'll use it for reflection hunters someday. So much to do, so little time.

My visit was more of an auto tour just to briefly see the place and have lunch. Too crowded and ritzy for me! The bouillabaisse was memorable, even if the outdoor restaurant was packed with tourists.

I understand so much to do......

I've been fortunate enough to be there at all times of the day, morning, afternoon and night...It changes, the way it looks and the vibe. I'm not sure if I'll ever get back there, I'd say not I guess, but one never knows. It's something to see though right?

We stayed in Menton for a week and did day trips from there that included Monaco, before moving on to a week in the Dolomites. I was lucky enough to do several extended vacations in France but still feel like I didn't get to see nearly enough.

Grandeur of mountains, always breathtaking, not seen this region @melinda010100 although reading comments, have been to Dolomites and loved that region!

Northern Italy is so beautiful! I love being in the Alps.

Whole region is stunning, perhaps coming from a dry land, the green literally makes ones heart sing, the barren mountains up high telling the wind swept story of altitude, yes an amazing place to visit.

What a beautiful, relaxing and stunning, that place, France is a beautiful country, although I don't know it I was delighted to look and read posts about its beautiful places and culture. What nice pictures, thanks for sharing them

I've been to France a few times and each time was amazed at the incredible beauty. If you ever have the opportunity I can highly recommend it! 🙂

Gracias sería algo único, un regalo de Dios

What a nice gesture that you will bring your friend that gift, and even more that she will keep it 😊, it was then a special gift for both of you.
It's a beautiful mountain 🤗

Bringing rocks home are cheap souvenirs!

Only 44 pound cases allowed on planes in Europe, we only grabbed pebbles.

On month long trips I had to settle for pebbles, too.

Cezanne's mountain? Natural and so very cool!

There is a national park here in AZ (Petrified Forest) that has signage up about the curse that is transferred when one takes a stone or bit of petrified wood home with them, including some testimonials. I don't know if it slowed the leakage but it's pretty cool.

I love the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert!, There are SO many rock shops outside the Park that sell petrified wood that there would be no reason to steal any from the park when you can just go and buy a chunk any place. The rocks I brought home were nothing special, probably limestone. I've brought rocks, pebbles and shells home from places that were special to me from all over the world. Cheap souvenirs!

I have a really good friend that has a 'rock garden'in his back yard in Spokane, Wa. It has rocks from lots of places that people have brought him over the years. I know that there is a bit of concrete from Alcatraz and some sandstone from Grand Canyon for sure. It's really a pretty cool place...

My kind of garden! Alcatraz. How fun!

Imagine being so mesmerizing by beauty that you are inclined to bring back rocks for souvenirs 😁

This is an easy one for me...
Cause this comes second nature (haha see what I did there).

This is Suriname ladies and gents!
Not the city, but somewhere in the interior. There are native American and Maroon societies in these jungles. Luckily enough they also have certain "resorts" where you can spend a few day enjoying nature.
What you're looking at are the rapids of a river making a turn through the jungle.
You can actually take a swim and even sit in those rapids (the weaker ones) but looking at it and hearing the water is as soothing as it gets for me....

@galenkp that shot looks amazing and New Zealand is officially on my travel list! Not sure I'll get a helicopter ride but I'll try to!

This is great! Such a peaceful looking spot and who doesn't like the sound of running water in the wilderness?

I knew you'd come up with something awesome and you didn't disappoint!

!ENGAGE 20

Haha thanks I feel like your weekly topics give me another chance to express myself (and show off any photography in the process)

Your photography deserves showing off so it all works out! :)

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

This looks so beautiful! We don't really have such 'big' nature here in the Netherlands, so I always get a little envious ;-)

Hahaha it's one flight, a few car rides and a boat trip away!
Not now though, wait until the covid numbers go down 😔

Posted using Dapplr

Yeah, vacation during covid troubles doesn't sound like a nice vacation :-(

Lovely artwork of nature. Suriname is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Always a pleasure to tell people more about the country!

Posted using Dapplr

Suriname is really a fascinating quiet place!

Yes it is! Lots of nature and a very interesting culture to boot!
Plan on visiting?

Posted using Dapplr

Nature nature thanks to nature🙏 what a lovely view. It seems it was also taking from a helicopter.

Thank you!
Close! It was a mini quadcopter with a camera 😁...

Posted using Dapplr

wow! never heard of that before. but its really nice. thanks gonna check it out

😃 I'm talking about Drones ofcourse

oh!! i see the name you gave it got me confused

This looks really beautiful, just imagining the sound of the river brings me peace.

Thanks! Exactly, it does, just sitting there by the river, meditating or with a book is kind my ultimate form of relaxation 😃

Posted using Dapplr

That's just amazing. Incredible beauty and a great subject.

I'm a river rat, and I'm pretty darn sure I'd like this one!

You would definitely!
From the posts/comments I've gathered you would have loads of fun exploring out there!

Posted using Dapplr

A wonderful photo. The colors of the place are cheerful and fill me with energy just looking at them.

Thank you!
Special shout-out to nature for making this possible 🤣

Posted using Dapplr

That's a gorgeous photo. It's always soothing to hang out by rushing water. Where are you located again?

Thanks!

This shot is from Suriname, where I grew up. It's north of Brazil, next to Guyana and French Guyana.

I'm currently in Curaçao, haha that's another story all together 😁

Posted using Dapplr

iheart traveliving.

Man this is amazing! Everything is so green!

Thank you! I know right! The drone gives you some extra perspective especially how vast the jungle is

Posted using Dapplr

Interior of Suriname is beautiful don't think I have seen to many photographs of this region thanks @gvkanten

My pleasure! I'll try to post more about it in my #TravelThursday posts. There is a lot to show

Posted using Dapplr

Suriname is one of those places you don't hear about a lot. It is an neighbor country and I bet by the location it is a beautiful place. This picture show a bit of it. Great piece of nature!

You're totally right, it's grossly under-exposed in terms of tourism. However, that's also the reason why there are more than enough nature spots to visit.
Now that you mention it I'm getting curious about travel between South American countries...

Posted using Dapplr

There are some beautiful things around this part of the world. Just don't get into socialist countries. 😅

Hahahha thanks for the tip!

Up till now I've been to Colombia, Peru, Guyana and French Guyana and Suriname ofcourse.. But I still have a long wat to go

Well, that's a lot of countries. Hopefully, you'll get the rest of the not-red-listed ones soon enough.

Amazing! It is a spectacular place, I loved it! 😍

Thank you ☺️

Posted using Dapplr

You are right, nature is magic. many of us are far away from it. The city consumes us...

Maybe it's time to make an effort to get closer to nature... Are you with me? 😃

That's right, you are very right... I go along with you in that feeling.

I've always wondered what Suriname is like.. right from the first day I heard of the country I had.. well ideas of what it would be like... It looks so so beautiful

Thanks! It has a lot of different sights and sounds but this, the jungle, is one of my favorites.

Where did you first hear about Suriname?

from the memorizing various countries around the world as a 10 year old.. the name of the country struck me.. i thought it was quite a funny name

Woaoooo, what a gorgeous shot! I vote for this one 🤩

Hahah thank you thank you!
I'll accept this vote 😁😁😁

Cheers 🥂🤩

Good morning Galen...😊

Waking up to my natural world of remains.

I have to admit I just let the cursor run and it stopped on this picture. Which I really like, because as you know taking pics of the deceased is kinda a hobby of mine. And this is just an innocent fish bone 😁 .

I captured it on Lake Michigan, in Grand Haven. Loved being there, the Great Lakes are stunning and impressive. And I got excited to find this piece of fish lol.

Also there is sand which is the most valuable resource on the planet lately...yah people you can learn something here and if we still wanna show off pictures of the natural world in a few years we all have to take actions to save this planet from humanity now...just saying 😉 ✊ ...if not I will be the only one that can show off pictures of remains in a few years 😅

Ehemmmm have a great day/night y'all!

Cursor running is sometimes the best way to pick things an, like in this case, can result in something very interesting.

This image reminds me of a dinosaur fossil and in truth this is exactly how the fossils we dig up today would have begun...Alive, then dead, then covered over by millions of years of silt, mud and silty-mud and muddy-silt and...That's all I can think of.

Sand...Fucking hate it Anna...But yep, you're right it's a valuable natural resource...Kind of like water, but that doesn't stop humanity taking it for granted.

!ENGAGE 20

I know you hate sand, sand is just midget stones, it peels your skin and your concrete house and windows are made of it...just a few pros for sand...but don't worry, soon there will be none anymore lol, sounds crazy hu? These days you can impress the mafia with a kilo of sand rather than with a Bugatti 😄...back to the fish...

I love sand when it's turned into glass and concrete etc, those things don't make their way into my hidden crevices...But grainy bastard-sand? Nah, never going to like it. Lol.

Morning Anna. :)

Good morning sunshine 😁...you just made me laugh...thanks 😄

Lol...Always happy to make people laugh, the alternative doesn't always go so well for them.

I just got back from a two hour hike...Watcha got happening today?

I will head over to do my help out in 5min. The neighbor is in hospital again since Thursday. Then walking Joy, cleaning up my place, making pancakes and waiting for Scholli to show up, walking Joy again, in between I will stop at da Hive ;), and later hmmmmmmmmmmm...reading maybe...not much to do...a lot opened up again, but just for the vaccinated, healed or tested...I'm none of that 😂

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Very interesting your photo and it gave me a lot of laughter what you wrote 😅, and out of the moment of laughter I agree with you that if we don't start taking care of our nature in a few years we will have less colorful photos 🌎

Yah I laughcry a lot lately 😅

Good to see I am not the only one that takes pictures of fish bones on the beach. having a beach to walk along is always fun and camera needs to be handy because you just never know what kind of flotsam you are going to find. I found a dead Russian watch once, and no there was no hand attached.

Gosh...thank goodness... I'm not alone. Beach is awesome, finding stuff on the beach is even more awesome, a Russian watch with no hand...mehhh lame 😂. I have a whole collection of dead birds, mice, whatever I find but I have to say in an esthetic way. I honor their lives with it cause they get overlooked but are so precious...

A few years back this was a pretty grisly story:

More than a dozen feet in shoes have washed up on B.C. beaches — and 1 case remains unsolved. Five years ago, a grisly discovery was made on Botanical Beach on Vancouver Island, B.C.

That was kind of what I was thinking, pretty much macabre humor.

Oh I just recently watched a documentary on that. They found out that most of those feet where from suicides from a bridge in that area. Because of the current they got washed up there. First they thought it might have been the mafia because in that area they are or used to be kinda big. But it turned out it was mother nature washing the poor souls taking their own lives up there. Maybe the one or other murder was in between but yah...still kinda creepy to find a foot lol. They didn't got eaten up as the rest of the bodies because of the shoes.

very impressive catch.

You should se the others 😁

I skipped a rock on Lake Michigan. Went around all the Great Lakes that trip and skipped a rock on each of'em. Last time I went there I had Pura with me and she was gonna skip a rock too. It was shortly before a super bowl (football.. football) so we burned a bowl—woulda been early February.

The whole massive, gigantic body of water was a solid ice cube! Skipping rocks just wasn't the same. But you shoulda seen our moonwalks!!

Dead things. Not sure what it is but I've been featuring dead artists at Jaynie's place on Fridays which reminds me, I didn't get a reminder this week. 🤔

🤔 True, me neither. What's going on? Nice story bout da lakes. Must have been awesome to see them frozen. I loved it and talking about it makes me miss being at a beach, no matter where.

Great lakes need to be looked after, each grain of sand reminds us of time slipping if we don't take action and reverse a lot of what we are doing, yes the picture tells a story!

Sadly that is true, and even more sadly I think we ran out of time already. :(

Yup, tend to agree... spoiled people expect everything neatly packed in plastic we have created a big hole of.... read my lips!

We are throwing away our world in a mass produced throw away world.

I love walking the beach and taking pictures of all the random things I find. This is an impressively intact fishbone and it would have definitely made the cut, too.
Reminds me, while I was looking for a photo to share in G's thread (side note: should have used your cursor scroll method) I came across one I took in Denmark of a dead red crab - your photo reminded me of it.
Right there with you on the state of our planet - sad truth 😩

Where is the pic of the crab? Drop it here :)

Here you go, one red dead crab, found and photo taken on Fanoe, Denmark

DSCN0072.jpg

Hehe cool...another natural world of remains...poor little thing though...my zodiac sign is cancer so I feel for it 😉

Yeah, I know. There's no way around it - nature is beautiful, but it can also be very brutal. See the positive side, the seagull probably had a nice lunch 😝

But seagulls eat this...😂

I went a lot to the beach when I was a kid and you wouldn't know how many times I stepped into something like this. Why? I have no idea 🤣. It is like setting foot to nature's LEGOs.

That's funny lol...Galen did you read it? Natures LEGO 😂

Ha, ha, ha. It's a totally legit comment 🤣

It is :). Thanks for a good laugh before going to bed now ;).

My pleasure! :D

That's just a stunning photograph. I am familiar with the area, but the truth is I tend to gravitate to Lake Superior when I'm between the two. It is truly a beautiful area.

If a Kilo of sand is going to be worth more than a Bugatti then I vacuumed up about a Chevrolet's worth this morning. :)

Who knew? Arizona is going to be the richest place on the planet and so hot that nobody will be able to live here...

Lol, you might wanna keep the sand. The lakes are fantastic and I wished I could be there one day again.

There has been some effort (mostly from the Chamber of Commerce) to get the big lakes in North Idaho included as 'Great Lakes'. They really are big glacial gouges, but I don't think you can be out of sight of shore on any of the three. Which happens early on a couple of the Great Lakes.

Yah if you get dropped on one of the Greats and you don't know it you can mistake them for a sea. They don't feel like lakes. When I visited Lake Garda in Italy people wondered why I wasn't impressed. I mean I love it, would move there in a heartbeat but once you felt a Great Lake everything else feels little 😄. Lake Garda is still a very spiritual place for me but for other reasons than the size lol.

I know the big lakes in Idaho way better. Intimately :) I know the rivers that feed them, and have traipsed all over around them. I love them and have considered living nearby several times.

I probably prefer Coeur d'Alene but only because my favorite river on earth feeds it. The St. Joe. I hope one of my nephews will tote my ashes to Prospector Creek where it runs into the St. Joe. That's how much that place means to me.

It is nice to have a place like that. Do you live in that area?

Es volver a la creacionIt is to return to creation.

A fish bone.. HHAAA THIS ONE'S GOOD 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The first thing that came to my head was.. who's cat did this on the beach

Must have been a big cat....was a big bone 😄

Perhaps someone brought a lion to the beach 🤣

They opened the gate on May first. River access now allowed. It means summer is almost here. The river is still a little bit low so not many boats yet, but getting close. next week end, the place will be full of fools from Anchorage. It is the big weekend. My wife and I will not be out there, though it would be fun to watch the crowds.

Kasilof River 5-7
It was a pretty nice day on the 7th, and next weekend along with the big camping fishing first gasp of summer activities, it is also time to hit the green houses up for plants. May 31st is generally safe to leave plants out over night and start the new year bloom cycle.

We wont have to many, but we will get a few to take pictures of as the season allows.

I asked for it and you delivered! This looks like an awesome spot! You say boats but is kayaking permitted here also? I can see myself setting out for a yak-camping trip for a few days...Great snap and as I sit outside sipping a coffee writing a post about oysters right now I wish I was there.

!ENGAGE 20

When the river starts to fill outboard fishing boats will be on the river, limited in size to I think 25 Horse Power. Kayaks, row boats, rafts, they will be the ones on the water for our Memorial Day weekend next weekend, then the river starts to fill and the noise makers take over.

Noise-makers...I'd have to avoid them I think, I'm not into noise makers, or the noise they make.

Before knowing that was in Anchorage I had to put on a sweater! brrrr

Yeah it is still a bit cold, not as many days dropping below freezing any more, only one day this week over night. But summer approaches soon.

Great you got to enjoy this amazing spot before the maddening crowds arrive, hope the summer food planting season is a good one @bashadow

I hope it is for the farmers also, I do like the local grown foods, we just don't do a lot of food growing ourselves. Another two or three months and the local farmers markets will be getting into the swing of things.

Traditional, support local farmers, growing food for yourself one has to get outdoors, swinging muscles into action, loads of patience, making good with the ground, not for everyone. 😉

There comes a point in some peoples lives that it is just not an easy thing to do. We used to have nice gardens and had the nice ground to grow things in. That was quite awhile ago now.

It looks beautiful and peaceful! I loved it 😍

May the 1st? That's the opening date for the wilderness area below Hell's Canyon Dam in Idaho, too. Used to have a Mother's Day Weekend Camping and Riding trip there every year. You gots a lot more trees, but the Snake is a bigger river (It's called the River of No Return there). I've chipped ice to brush my teeth and such on mother's day weekend there...

I've driven by an over the Snake River a few time, never really stopped to enjoy it though, all ways just passing through on y way to somewhere else less healthy and more crowded and noisy. One of these days I really would like to stop at Hells Canyon, but will likely never happen. There are a lot of really nice river that get driven over going from Alaska to the lower 48, just never enough time to stop and enjoy.

This is the photo I originally planned for this session. It's a guardian tree at the top of Hell's Canyon.

image.png

Sooooooooooooo
In terms of water temperature, what are we talking about?
"where have my balls gone?" or "Jack, there's a boat"

I think it would be "where have my balls gone" it is a glacier fed river system, and the glaciers are not really that far away, so the water does not have a lot of chance to warm up.

Hello happy weekend, as soon as I read the initiative of this weekend came to my mind this extraordinary experience that I lived in the Canaima National Park, Venezuela.
We were in front of this imposing waterfall. Salto el sapo. Which is seen from the Canaima Lagoon, a wonderful place where I always want to return.
To get to the sapo, we must get on a curiora, a very thin but long boat, where you can sit 6 people or more, one behind the other. This boat is driven by an indigenous person of the area, who brings us closer to the waterfall. On one side of the waterfall, where we can go down and see it up close.

InShot_20210521_114538289.jpg

In photo 1 we can see that glorious fall of water, which comes with force. And the emotions begin to flow. The guide leads us through a path that takes us into the jungle, to then pass behind the fall, where there is a path between the rock that allows us to pass behind that magnitude...
photo 2, behind the waterfall. It was amazing to see and hear the force of the water falling. The guide helps us to take a delicious bath with that water, which hits hard, but it is delirious.... adrenaline is so much that there is no fear. Only joy and pleasure to live that experience.... I want to come back...

InShot_20210521_114653650.jpg

This looks like a pretty powerful waterfall. I wonder how many litres go over the edge every minute? I imagine it would sound pretty impressive standing there too, all that water moving all at the same time!

!ENGAGE 20

Hola si, es impresionante, todo lo que se vive detras de esa gran masa de agua.

I'm sorry, I don't read Spanish.

That waterfall is small in relation to the one that comes out of the tepui, but it is impressive to be so close, and that large amount of water, has a unique sound.

I've never stood next to a waterfall so large, just smaller ones and they made a lot of noise themselves! I can only imagine what a big one like this would sound like.

If it is noisy, you have to shout or signal to communicate, behind it....

I can imagine. I'd like to see it for myself.

Canaima is one of the most beautiful places in our country and I still don't know it 😭.
Excellent shot of this waterfall 😍

Several images coming in from Venezuela, thanks! Media has all those images of people starving for water and energy when the country is mentioned. This weekends engagement topic is changing my perspective.

That sounds like such a peaceful day. Never heard it called a curiora before.. canoe, boat, lots of words but I learned a new one today.

Thank you!

Curiara is the name given by the indigenous people, in this case the community of the area, the Pemones. .......

Nice!! Thank you. Only thing cooler would be in the boat. Got anything exciting planned this weekend?

This weekend is a quarantine weekend here, everything is closed and so are the parks. But always, something different is created.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. For whatever reason Covid went right around the state of Tennessee, they've never so much as required facial coverings to enter establishments here.

And then just recently they removed all recommendations. Now they have concerts to maximum capacity again on the weekends, salons and restaurants have stayed open the whole time, guns never missed a beat.

Such a strange time how different the rules are depending which street corner you're standing on.

I think everybody in Arizona knows at least one person that died or spent big hospital time. Which is probably why our face covering was so successful.

There are still a couple of businesses that request masks here but just generally we are 100% open.

Waterfalls always gives one a feeling of how insignificant we are, gushing over the edge, drowning out everything forcing one to look and take it all in @jennynas lovely piece of natural world.

Very exciting to see it in the distance and then gradually approaching that magnitude of water, and another is to see it from above from the plane. Seeing the imposing river...

Learning of different regions one can imagine through the lens of another, beauty to enjoy from a distance.

Yes we are surrounded by wonderful nature in the world and sharing it here makes us a little closer.

Now that is a SERIOUS waterfall. Amazing.

😊😊😊

Amazing.. it's seems like there are a lot of beautiful places in south America and the Caribbean.. so many beautiful place to visit but safety is still a big issue

Great shot! So powerful!

Sunrise on Awaji Island 🇯🇵

Sun ☀️ sky 🌌 and sea 🌊 all in one shot.
I love Awaji Island 🌴. It reminds me of Western Jamaica 🇯🇲. More specifically the quiet relaxing seaside tourist area of Negril. It’s a kind of getaway spot outside of the busy city life.

So peaceful, I had a similar shot 🤩

What a great sunset sunrise - I can imagine sitting there on a Friday night after a long week at work just relaxing and finding some peace. Thanks for joining in!

!ENGAGE 20

Thanks @galenkp. But this is actually a sunrise not a sunset.

Someone's sunrise is another person's sunset.

Lol. Nice

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Oh no my love for sunset eh!!😃 My eyes just got glued to this picture am loving it. My aoutmost desire is that one day I will get a house that will enable me see the sunrise 😀 its so nice

Thank you @obrisgold1 its a beautiful sunrise indeed. Having a house 🏠 in this area would be an awesome dream.

Beauty. Sun sky sea and land all at once. I'll go ahead and call it a sunrise in spite of the prevailing attitude :)

That’s right @bigtom13. Call it what it is. 😀

Wonderful view, it is a very peaceful place and the sunset is beautiful 😍

Thanks @miriannalis. Credit to the creator.

A nice looking place. having a close by get-away spot is great. Does it get a lot of people or kind of a locals only secret?

The number of visitors started increasing just before COVID. So during the downtime a number of new attractions have gone up.

How brutal, Japan is a wonderful location with beautiful natural scenery. The perfect paradise that everyone should be in sometime. Very nice sunsrise. Cheers from the other side of the world @bearmol :)

Cheers @gabrielserra. I agree with your sentiments. There are so many beautiful places on the planet. Although I’m sure each country has its own beautiful scenery, this particular picture causes me to think of the wonders or creation.

I'm looking at Awaji Island in the distance, correct? Where is the photo taken from?

@dandays The photo was taken on Awaji Island. The land in the distance may be the mainland probably (Wakayama)

👍🏿

Life is a beach, enjoying the sun, sea and scenery always something on offer @bearmol 😃

Thanks @joanstewart have to learn to take the time to appreciate nature.

Walk and keep looking, take care not to leave anything but footprints behind, save nature for future generations.

@joanstewart reminds me of words I’ve seen on signs on a hiking trail.

A sunsets are a great sight to behold! It doesn't matter the latitude, they can get anyone's attention to stare in awe to nature's beauty!

I agree with you @bertrayo beauty is everywhere. We just need to take the time to notice it all around us wherever we are.

Indeed. Nature has a lot of beautiful things to offer.

What a beautiful sunset!!!
Haha just kidding, great sunrise...
The ocean is alway so dramatic though, I can see how it triggers emotion. It's like the great beyond, kinda scary but you still wanna explore...

Picture 58 Playfulfoodie Extra Small.jpg

For me, there are many pictures I took years ago which I love a lot. This one for example. It reminds me of the beautiful place I grew up in. It was an area with lots of forest all around and I feel so lucky to have grown up in such a small town, instead of a big, dirty city! We got to play in the bushes and forests, instead of a small strech of grass inbetween houses :-)

I love the big nature I saw in Scotland, both the highlands and the lowlands, each very different. Here in the Netherlands, everything is flat. But the forests around where I grew up were great too!

Space...Elbow room...we all need it and few appreciate it. A very nice picture it can lead the imagination to stray of stories yet told, and those that remain untold.

Scotland. I can't help but think of the Scot who crossed a road with me each time I'm reminded of Scotland. I was looking for the bus time on my phone when I crossed the street, he was coming at me. We're in England, if you could imagine my American accent..

(pretend you can hear his Scottish accent) Dude said "wh'doncha watch where'da fuck'yer goin!!"

Well, you see, I pray daily God keeps my mind sharp and mouth quick cuz I've yet to be bested when it comes to a battle of words. So my reactionary response went like this...

'Looks like you're doin a good enough job for both of us.'

Him: "th'fuck you say'ta me?!"

'Oh now you don't know fuckin English?!'

He stopped... stared... speechless... he turned away and continued his life so I could continue repeating this story.

😉

Hahaha completely baffled!
Oh gosh, I wish I was quick with a comeback like that. Mine would come to me later in the day, when there's no use for it anymore :D

I enjoy that memory, it's a good one. Glad you agree.

Can't wait til you guys ease up over there, until UK reopens we're stuck!

Mist always intriguing, allows the mind to flow into any realm you feel inclined to go. Growing up with plenty of outdoor space to explore was amazing, I too am grateful for similar opportunity.

Oehh moody shot!
In my mind this can go either way... It's either a sunrise breaking through morning dew/mist bringing lots of blessings.... Or or like a kind of horror movie where things come crawling through the mist...
I know I've watched too many movies 😂

Haha, luckily for me, it was the first one :D

Wow!! It is very beautiful this photo, I love it, when I've seen movies filmed in Scotland or images was always impressed by its beautiful scenery. Thank you for giving us this beautiful view

I grew up way out in the country and understand the feeling of security and peace that comes with space.

It's a gorgeous photo, thanks for it!

There is always beauty to be found in nature, we just need to see it. Clear day or misty and grey can be equally beautiful depending on our attitude towards it. This is a nice snap, moody...Makes me think of a cottage in the woods, wood fire, soup and crusty bread. 😁

!ENGAGE 20

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Scotland is so beautiful! Funny to hear you now live in the Netherlands, me too and I can imagine you miss the Scottish landscape :)

Scotland is beautiful indeed! It's the most beautiful landscape I've visited so far, but yeah, I never lived there. It's always been the flat Netherlands :-)

My, my, my foggy meadow looks amazing. I used to attend college in a place where fog could get so thick you couldn't see more than what was at arms lengths. Something incredible for a tropical country. I bet you get a lot of fog and interesting landscapes around in sweet Scotland. That's a country in my visit list.

Oh wow, that must be hard to navigate through such thick mist! We have that here in the Netherlands sometimes aswell, but luckily not often. Quite scary to drive through.
We found some of misty mornings while we were on vacation in Scotland, but I'm sure there are better seasons for mist there. I hope to return there some day. Hubby hasn't seen it yet, so worth another vacation :-)

It was. It looked like something out of a horror film.

Hubby hasn't seen it yet, so worth another vacation :-)

Any excuse is good to go back to a nice place :D

Just thought I'd tell you again that's a really cool photo.

Oh that's so sweet, thank you! It is one of my favorites :-)

🤣🤣🤣 a big dirty city.. thanks for reminding me of my misery 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful image though

Haha, I'm so sorry!

Nah it's alright.. I take no offense I just thought it was funny how rural is beautiful and urban is well.... Not it

I guess it depends on the person aswell. Even though I find it hard to understand, there's plenty of people who would hate the thought of living rural! People who want all the 'happening' from the city. It is convenient to have everything you need at walking distance.

Doesn't it get boring and mundane though and how do you deal with your own ambitiion

What gets boring and mundane?

Brown praying mantis
Found this critter in my veggie garden 18 Jan 2021. Was quite surprised because I'd never seen brown ones before. He seemed to like the camera a was very friendly. I love how little things make such a huge impact.

Sometimes the smaller parts of nature can provide such interest...Unless they're eating your vegetables of course!

!ENGAGE 20

😂 I don't mind them eating rhubarb leaves

We all have to eat I guess - Nice of you to share it around. :)

That we do lol

Amen. I had to tend my Grandmother's little plot at my parents house. The pressure on a 7 or 8 year old was enormous. Plus I hated the taste...

You weren't worried about whatever that brown thing is helping itself to your garden?

Haha no. It was a praying mantis, they're ok.

Hey @stevenson come look at this.. where's one of those insect pictures you have got

Pretty amazing picture. I'm no big fan of insects but always like seeing photographs of them...

Thanks, they have a role to play.

How friendly did you guys get?
Haha does he have a name? 😁😁😁

Hmmm.... maybe I'll name him Benny, like Benny and the jets.

Hahha I like it!
Cheers to Benny!

Happy weekend everyone!
The wonderful nature offers us beautiful landscapes, like the one I captured in this photograph.
To get there I had to hike up steep trails for about two hours.
I chose it because I like how imposing mountains look, majestic in perfect connection with the life of man.
The feeling of being so high makes your skin crawl.
These mountains are located in a town in the Trujillo state in Venezuela called Los Cerrillos.
IMG-20140911-WA0000.jpg

This looks like a nice verdant valley and a nice place for a little town. I think I'd like to spend some days exploring the mountains around here. Mountains and wilderness always attracts me and makes me want to escape to them.

!ENGAGE 20

It is a beautiful place with a very pleasant climate that allows you to go out to know and explore. I am sure that you would very much like to know those places if you spent a few days there.

Maybe one day I'll get there and take a look for myself and in the mean time I'll explore other places and find the same feelings I guess.

Another one in Venezuela?! Shout out to all you Venezuelans in #theweekend thread this weekend. You've got a beautiful country.

Thank you!
My country is beautiful with many beautiful landscapes and great natural resources.
Greetings!

I like the rough mountain look and the thin valley. We have some of that look up here in Alaska.

I would like to be able to meet them. I love mountains.

It is truly a blessing to live surrounded by such wonders.

It must be magical to live surrounded by mountains and breathe such rich air. It is one of the things I like the most about these Andean landscapes 😍

Having the mountains, the cold climate, the mist and the silence and peace that reigns in the environment so closely is very relaxing and pleasant. I really enjoy it.

Heights bother me some, but I always go when I have the chance. Always. This is a glorious photo of a high mountain valley. Beautiful.

Height always affects those of us who are not used to it. When I was walking to get there I was short of oxygen and tired easily. I even got a little dizzy.
However, the mountains are always beautiful.

munte.jpg

A photo from a Summer Camp and the first time I walked on a mountain from its bottom to the peak.

That haze and river put me in mind of a photo I took on the east end of the Grand Canyon. If mine weren't so hazy you could clearly see where the little Colorado runs into the main river.

image.png

Even without seeing the river, it is a splendid view!

It looks really beautiful, I love the mountains, being able to see that landscape from the top is the ultimate 😍

Yes, it is a nice feeling.

Gorgeous photo. Good thing you explained yourself cuz you look miserably unhappy.

Thank You. It is just a photo trying to be artistic, maybe I was a bit tired.

Dammit! Now that read that again it's kind of abrasive. Not my intention. 💖

Getting to places with an exceptional view, lovely green region to hike through @maylenasland

Yes, it is. I am glad you liked it 😉

What an amazing and beautiful view!

Thanks! 🙂

Greetings everyone, thank you @galenkp for this invitation, I love nature and seeing all the photos shared gives me a lot of emotion.

I chose this photo because it brought back a special memory of Christmas 2020, after being locked up at home for a year because of the Covid, we decided to spend the holidays in a camp in Yaracuy State, Venezuela.

We did not know the place and from the moment we arrived we were captivated, a very beautiful place, surrounded by nature.

IMG_20201230_162959.jpg

*In this picture is my oldest son swinging on a rope.

What I liked the most was that we had the opportunity to disconnect from everything. There was no internet signal, so we used our phones only to take pictures, so it was a time to enjoy nature and be with family.

Blessings to all ✨

Beautiful. Its great when you can enjoy nature with family.

Absolutely, it is a great blessing ✨

A rope swing over a lake or river is always a good time and especially after being locked up like we all were in 2020! This looks like a really nice spot and I can see why you chose it this week. ✅

!ENGAGE 20

My children really enjoyed the tour, I hope to return there soon 🤗

Is it far from home or close by? A drive in the car away?

It's about 4 hours by car from my city

Venezuela again?! I've said something about Venezuela is gorgeous about 4 times in 4 minutes cuz I think I just stopped by 4 in a row. Venezuela comin in hot!!

Beautiful landscape, I wanna visit a little more with each photo.

Hahahaha, this weekend some of us Venezuelans got active to show the wonders of our country, the truth is that there is something for everyone: beaches, rivers, mountains and forests.

I have yet to see many of its beauties 😊.

This is a sunset on one of the beaches in the east of the country.

IMG-20210522-WA0033.jpg

Nice shot.

Nice quiet setting to relax @miriannalis many places here don't have internet connection, actually makes one take a good break away from daily life.

I think it is necessary to take a few days of disconnection from time to time @joanstewart, it is amazing how I could appreciate longer days and every detail that surrounds us.

By not being distracted by technology we were able to appreciate the natural beauty of this place.

Good to make time even down to a local park for a picnic, being outdoors is what we need especially in this fast paced world we live in.

Absolutely! It is very relaxing to enjoy a sunny afternoon lying on the grass.

untitled.gif

Beautiful landscape of my beloved Venezuela, I would like to be there and drop into the water.
Sometimes it is necessary to disconnect from technology and connect with nature.

It is very necessary and this was a very nice trip, we even took a boat ride on that lake 🤗.

It must have been a very enjoyable experience

Absolutely! 😊🤗

What a beautiful place! Mixed foliage to be sure. Looks like two kinds of palm trees and some sort of hard wood. That makes it pretty darn exotic to me.

I love being completely out of touch. When I am 'in touch' I sort of feel an obligation to civilization. When I'm outside the loop I certainly do not.

There are many types of trees, some exotic certainly for this type of landscape, but all beautiful and make a perfect combination.

It's amazing how it makes us feel to be disconnected from all the civilization 😊, although I tell you that my 15 year old niece suffered the first 2 days because she couldn't find what to do without the cell phone 😅, then she adapted to the experience and took advantage of it, but it was difficult, her world revolves around technology 🙈

Very cool shadows 😍

😍🤗😘

Haha Venezuela is strongly represented this week! Did you guys plan this??? 👀😁.

I like the second shot the most, it's the reflection in the water that has my attention 😃

Hahaha, well, that was a happy coincidence 😅

Notice that after I posted it I noticed that reflection and I kept admiring the photo for a long time because of that detail 🤗.

I loved this week's idea. I am an animal and nature lover.

In fact, I have a vegetable garden in my house and it is a wonder when you see the tiny seeds you sowed turn into leafy plants, shrubs or trees. In my particular case I will share the following photo:

This photo is very meaningful to me, as it is the first flower of a plant that produces a fruit called royal parcha (or Badea in other places). I share this photo because sometimes we think that majesty is only attributed to exotic and amazing landscapes, but there are times when we can find the majesty of nature in one of its smallest expressions, like this flower, for example.

Particularly, this flower is very meaningful to me, as this plant takes many months, almost a year, to produce fruits. I was waiting for a long time for it to start flowering. When I came across that flower one day, I was very happy. I longed to see that flower in person, because I had only seen it in pictures. You can marvel at a photograph of something you like, but seeing it in person is another story. Seeing that flower was something that filled me with satisfaction and it was a surprise that it had such a pleasant smell. It was a gift from nature that made my day.

Royal parcha...I've not heard of this and wonder what it is used for, or how it's used more to the point.

It's an interesting looking flower, that's for sure. It almost looks like three different flowers made into one!

!ENGAGE 20

Have you ever eaten the passion fruit(Maracuyá) that @joanstewart mentioned? It is from the same family and in fact the flowers are very similar. It can be eaten raw, like a melon, in a juice or jelly.

Ah yes, passionfruit. I have eaten that and enjoy it. Thanks for clarifying.

I really liked what you wrote about the photo, I agree with you, sometimes we forget that small details also hide wonderful greatness.

What a nice experience you had with your flower, it is beautiful 😍

I tell you I waited too long to see it bloom so when I saw it it was a great joy hahaha I wanted to share this, the truth is I don't have the possibility to travel and see landscapes like others in the community have shared, so I have learned to see the wonder of nature in smaller things.

Hahahaha, I can imagine. The same happens with Bonsai trees. I thought it was wonderful that you shared that experience, plus it's very connected to nature 🌱🌸

it is a wonder when you see the tiny seeds you sowed turn into leafy plants..

I couldn't have said it better myself, I'm just as perplexed by children. They just keep growing and growing and growing and they'll let anyone create'em, doesn't take any real effort or extensive tools or anything. They're easily manufactured with a few items laying around the house.

Similar to our Passion fruit or Guavadilla, slightly bigger to the little round ones we have, very similar flower. Also waiting over a year for mine to fruit again @gaboamc2393 super delicious!

Finally some flowers

Absolutely exotic to me. I've never heard of either name. If the fruit is anything like the flower it'll be incredibly interesting.

Very much meaningful 💚

Nature gives us beautiful landscapes in all corners of the world, I took this photo a few years ago, on a tourist walk in the Sierra Nevada de Mérida, one of the Andean States of Venezuela. I like this photo because it shows the harmony of a small town called "Apartaderos", with nature, in the middle of mountains and sunsets with thick fog.

A nice looking spot. I'd like to explore those mountains a little, do some hikes. Did you stay here for long?

!ENGAGE 20

If this place has some very beautiful places, and some incredible walking routes, I only stayed a few hours, but I hope to return ... I hope you get to know it ... it's worth it!

It looks like an interesting place, although a long way from Australia. Maybe I'll get to visit someday.

Australia one of the countries that I would like to visit one day ... For now it is only a dream

I hope you make it someday. I'm lucky enough to be born here and I love it very much. Best country in the world.

if I don't lose hope.

Great .. thank you very much for the opportunity

Oh, it's beautiful! We have the Sierra Nevada here in the US, too. The border between California and Nevada. Glorious mountains and alpine lakes.

I don't have to travel very far to be able to see the Sierra Madre in Mexico...

What a privilege that you don't have to travel to enjoy those majestic mountains.

I have to go east about 100 miles or so. They are in the main body of Mexico and I'm just north of Baja. But I have a couple of pictures (I think) I'm either getting better at knowing where my photos are or luckier :)

image.png

Merida, wonderful land with spectacular landscapes. I love spending time in these cold and natural places.

If Mérida has great places that are worth visiting

It is one of my favorite states in Venezuela, there are many beautiful places to photograph, especially the mountains 😍

Yes ... it is wonderful, I am happy to know that my land is one of your favorite States

DSCN1071.JPG

This is one of my favorite photos. It was taken in the canals of Rio Chico, Miranda State, Venezuela.

It was taken at 6 pm, it was already a little dark but nature gave us a beautiful sunset full of vibrant colors.

The mixture of blue, white and orange were reflected in the calm waters, making it look like a mirror. That image has always been dear to me, as above so below.

Every time I see it, it brings to mind the calm, peaceful, silence of that afternoon. I could only hear the splashing of the water against the small dingui I was in and in the distance a bird or two.

This is a great photo, a nice sunset image and a great reflection image also. You should think about posting this in the SHADOW HUNTERS community as a reflection (The take reflection posts also of course) Make sure you write 250 words or more though or it won't be possible to curate it for OCD.

Wow! I loved this photo! Too beautiful, very colorful and conveys so much peace, I have not been to Rio Chico but just passing through, after seeing this photo I definitely have to go to meet him.

Thank you very much for this photo 😍🥰😘

You need to meet there. Rio Chico has a beautiful Places. Very calm and Nice. Es un paraíso escondido. Looking in Google hearth, you can see the canals.

Oh this is beautiful. I went to Venezuela in 2013 and was stunned by it, amazing landscape and wonderful people!

Thank you for your kind words

That's a gorgeous shot, I love natural images. You didn't apply any filters to that?

Filtered images have their place too, I just think too many people rely on them. I'd rather have to ask 'is that filtered' than know without thinking of that makes sense.

What is up with Venezuela and all these beautiful places

Venezuela has beautiful places to visit

I would love to visit one day

Saw I accidentaly wrote my reply to the post as a reply to someone else's story... (must be getting slower because it's weekend! So here my real try!
What a great topic and I am seeing beautiful pictures here!
I've decided to share this picture from a trip I did two years ago to Oman. I hardly knew anything of Oman and assumed it was pretty deserty and maybe therefore not so interesting. Boy was I wrong! My partner got a temporary job there and I decided to visit him. I can definitely recommend everyone to go, what a beautiful country that holds a surprising amount of water, caves, canyons, mountains and lovely people as well.

img_20181101_140123.jpg

This picture was taken on Jebel Shams, also knows as the Grand Canyon of Oman and it has a great climbing route going up! Hope to go there again when travel is back on the menu!

Whoa - those are some serious canyons and mountains. So, rugged and really beautiful in its own way.

I've spent time in places like this, not quite alone, but at times alone, and they can be wondrous places to connect with oneself, I guess through the lack of anything else to stimulate ones mind - No pretty lakes, waterfalls, forests etc. You know? It's devoid of that, and so has a beauty all of its own.

Exactly! You'd feel so very, very small and humble, right? Just looking at those ridges, I'm like - whoa - nature is amazing and I am just one small, little human, trying to make do, you know?
I feel like this a lot of times when I look at nature's wonders. Or, for that matter, even at men's creations, they can (!) be pretty awesome, too.
I guess it is a case of know your place in the (food) chain, but be open to options, possibilities, and wonders - I love it all.

p.s. some of this may or may not be fueled by a recent dry martini - LOL - it is Saturday night here - I hope you're having a good weekend!
untitled.gif

I couldn't say it better myself, unless I had a massive martini twice the size of yours in that gif. Lol.

Sadly I don't think that I'd be able to say anything remotely coherent after a martini THAT size, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it nonetheless. Martinis are wonderful creations.

 3 years ago (edited)

Lol, yeah but it would be funny seeing you try!

Oh really? I actually hadn't noticed but thanks for dropping it again - Scenery like this must be seen more than once. :)

Not a competition, but here it is a great picture that will kick most picture's assess. Not overdoing it one bit, G-Dog. Let me see if I have something:

primavera.jpg

This is a very old and bad picture of Venezuelan landscape during this time of the year. The National Tree blooms twice a year. This was taking during April-May days in 2013 when I came back from Colombia. The long story made short is that I saw a lot of Araguaney trees blooming and giving their yellow blossom to adorn the highways and places. That why poet and namesake Andrés Eloy said once that this represents Venezuela's golden spring. In other countries the wood of this tree is used in woodworking. Here it is a protect species. A quite beautiful tree and one that you can see painting the green of the road with their bight yellow.

Any nature is good nature, so a tree that blooms twice a year is doubly good! Thanks for sharing the national tree of Venezuela!

!ENGAGE 20

It also has the particular thing of changing its leaves for flowers, so the tree gets naked to put of its spring dress.

All those naked trees and then they get dressed again. 😁

They just want to dress something fresher. 😂

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Definitely an ass kicker, I felt it. It wasn't that bad either, it was kinda nice. Thanks for that.

How cool is it that last week I posted a screen grab photo of one of the coolest Videos my Dashcam has ever recorded. And now this week G-Dog has a photo #weekend-engagement where it can be seen again.

Let me tell you, over 20+ years of recording my travels, I have had some good screen shots. (and bad)

The power of Nature is amazing, and a Lightning Strike is one of those powers. We have all seen them. But I have also felt them. Several times I have been within a stones throw, a hundred feet of a Strike. It takes your breath away. Leaves your ears ringing, and your eyes temporary blinded.

This photo was taken on I-20 west of Dallas / Ft. Worth TX. 2017.

Love the smell that hangs in the sky after thunder bolt hits, more so the mushrooms that pop up next day.... yummy!

I smelled something funny... But maybe it was cuz I almost pooped my pants. Those close calls are scary.

@galenkp ain't skeerd... Just a knucklhead. But then I thinks G-Dog could ride the lightning. He is kinda my hero and all...

Ride The Lightning...

Thor perhaps has an axe to grind, perhaps Thor speaks Groot or is it @krazzytrukker

Thoughts with you during time of not having Mom, loss of someone close always bites deep...

I don't know what to say other than amazing shot.

Nothing like getting good mileage on a photo I guess. Lol.

I remember as a kid a lightning bolt struck within meters, or so, of me and hit the ground which was pretty scary. Although, in truth it could have actually hit me and maybe that's why my noggin is a little messed up, you know, knucklehead-style. Lol.

Next week I'll do a topic for which you will not be able to use this image. Or maybe I won't...

Forgive Me for not engaging more. Not feeling very Typ-ee chatty...

My Mom, (stepmom) the one who raised me, the on who did the heavy lifting and set me on a good path in life, my friend, passed away Friday morning.

I have been out in the woods, brush hogging, clearing and burning.

Therapy, just being alone with Nature,

And of course, sharp blades, mowers, chainsaws, hydraulics, 12ga. shotgun (for snakes)

I'm sorry to hear that Randy, condolences.

Sometimes keeping occupied can help in those moments so a little hard work is a good thing I guess. On the other hand one could choose to make like a beaver and chew some branches. Either way would be legit.

If I didn't know any better I'd think the majority of your life is viewed from behind the transparency of fine granules of sand particles.

Anyone tuned in who doesn't know how glass is made likely has no clue wtf the above sentence means

Do you, @krazzytrukker? Know what it means, I mean? I mean without the use of phone a friend or google or anything, or did everything I just said go over your head like a pair'0 stacks.

Hell Yeah Bro...

I watched that TV show "How it's Made" for 20+ years

Being a tourist in my own garden, watching change photographing life on the move, one can never be bored.

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. – John Muir

Just yesterday I noticed this tiny, what I thought to be a butterfly, on researching this morning quite the contrary...

This butterfly-like in shape (not quite a butterfly or moth once enlarged slightly), wing span: approx 2 cm, surfing the web I reached conclusion this could be the Ricaniidae planthopper. Nature offers us such variety, never heard of this type of insect let alone finding one in the garden on a Croton shrub.

IMG_2016.JPG

Nurture Nature She Knows Best What purpose it fills, I have no clue, pretty for sure and tiny. (Photo is cropped and sized to upload.)

It's so easy to pass over the smaller things of nature for the larger, expansive vistas, elephants and the like...But there's a whole world just out of sight and when delved into can be just as interesting.

Funny that you quote John Muir in this comment as I did the same in my last post: https://hive.blog/hive-166408/@galenkp/what-lies-at-the-end

Great minds and all Joan. Lol.

So tiny it was a miracle I saw it at all @miriannalis

That Ricanbutterflyshapedplanthopper thing looks like a clown fish and you know it's true!

Was not sure what to make of it so your description fits the bill....

Ahhh so lively butterfly 😍

Damn oh dear. I have a picture I really like that really doesn't fit into any good mold, and then I went right to it to put it here.

Then I got to looking at some other photos and thought I really needed to put a picture of the Gunnison River at the bottom of the Black Canyon. I had the image copied when I saw this.

Badlands National Park, South Dakota. I was there on a day when some wild sunflowers were blooming and took some pictures of some, but this one was sort of an accident. I was actually photographing the breaks that are behind the flower.

image.png

Sunflower sure planted itself into a most unusual spot it steals the limelight!

Nice hiking region with stunning view @bigtom13

There are little gems like this all over the NP. You can see the edge of the grassy plains that surround the 'badlands'. This is on the eastern edge of the park. Another happy accident photograph for me...

From unusual grass plains to fascinating geographical zebra lines in rocks absolutely stunning!

I did go see more, so much in this region, fossil walk must be interesting, bison, big horn sheep, few rattlers and coyote 😁 bliss!

All that rock and then a flower popping up out of nowhere seemingly defying he odds. Pretty cool!

!ENGAGE 20

Cute lil sunflower...it made me smile 🌻 😁 It's a sunflower photo bomb 😂

Shout out to Galen for the topic this weekend Cuz that photo is special. Very nice Tom. Happy Friday! Got anything goin on this weekend? We've been in so many surrounding states lately a 3 hour drive to Nashville and back today's a cinch.

Is it too warm to ride yet? Shit!! Scratch that. Sounds like something a Californian would say. 👍🏿

I"m seriously considering a run to the White Mountains in the near future. Makes it about 6 hours in and out in the real heat, but it's not really hot yet. So, no. Not too hot to ride yet :)

Nice thing about that ride is lots of really great roads above 8000 feet of elevation so wonderful cool.

Sounds like it.

You have a wonderful photo. While wandering in the comments, I came to a screeching halt with your photo. It immediately caught my eye. The sunflower looks beautiful.

That is a great picture, I love the complete contrast in it. The only real color the flower. Next time monochromes or someone else has a color splash contest you should enter this, make it black and white, crop all the sky out and leave the flower color intact, that I think would be a real winner.

Thanks. I really love the photo, for more than the flower. You can see the edge of the grass and how the badlands begin, too. It's an amazing place.

What an awesome shot. It has an awesome message. You can bloom or shine wherever you are.

When I saw the image I thought the flower was like a montage 😅, because it didn't seem to fit in that place. Then I looked at it closely and I found it magical that in that land that seems very arid such a beautiful flower grows (which by the way is one of my favorites) 😍.

Very nice your photo 🤗

Thank you! The sunflowers are relatively common in the northern plains, where ever there is a little place that will hold the winter moisture a bit longer in the spring...

I really liked seeing that flower there 🤗

And what a happy accident it was. The contrast of the flower's color and the badlands is amazing. One day I have to make it out west and check it out.

The Badlands NP is just one of my favorite places. It's way more than just the tortured canyons, it's a humongous place and has huge grassland plains and a big herd of Buffalo. It's home to the first reintroduction site for the Black Footed Ferret (successful reintroduction I might add) and, amazingly, one of the best fossil exhibits and walks I've ever seen.

And wild sheep. I seem to see them every time I go through.

That really sounds amazing. One day, when we can travel again and I can make the time, I want to visit this. Thank you for the info!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I think this is my favorite picture of them all... There is the harsh surrounding and rocky steep then there is a sunny beautiful but lonesome flower that adds the life to the picture.. it's perfect.. I love this one

Look how strong the 🌻 is! Same as the the name, it's shining 🌟

Good thing there's no rule against commenting multiple times cuz this bloke right here already sees multiple comments headed your way.

Great way to go to make me drool over the first thing I see in the comments here. Amazing nature...

way to go to make me drool..

Happens everywhere I go.

I could go me some pancakes right now...But had to make do with grilled cheese and a coffee.

Grilled cheese! I just had a Caprese sandwich less than an hour ago and they grilled the thing in a waffle maker, how cool is that?! First time I saw that one.

You know, cheese melted onto toast under the griller thing. Caprese sandwich sounds good. I'm all full up on 3x grilled cheeses though. Lol. Got me some workshop cleaning today, some tidying up and organising and then want to fit my TPMS to my Landcruiser and do a post about it for later in the week. Lazy Saturday. I know yours hasn't started yet but I hope you have a good weekend.

uhmmmm! that looks delicious 😋

It's so good you don't wanna over pour the syrup. Not one of those things you can spread heavily and layer the plate in syrup. Every drop is priceless.

I can imagine! It's a precious liquid 😊😅

Oh those pancakes look awful, I mean, awfully good. I think you need to design a label for the syrup bottle, although, that golden color looks pretty good naked, don't ya think @dandays.

Only one time did I accidentally pour a few more drops than was necessary. Still my biggest regret when enjoying this syrup, that one time I mighta let a few priceless drops get away. I still beat myself up about that one time, can you tell?

Label. I don't think I could come up with something as natural as the naked look.

Tapping this nectar must be so amazing to see, well the taste makes up for it, just a pity it is so expensive where I live.... You making everyone hungry now @dandays

Let's spill the sap shall we?

I had no idea why maple syrup was so expensive. It never made sense so I'd typically use agave as sweetener. After seeing the process Sweed goes through it's a lot clearer to me now.

What isn't clear, however, is the taste. I can't consume store syrup anymore Joan because it tastes nothing like he stuff in the photo. I don't know what that stuff is on the shelves.... 🤔

That sap is liquid gold, watching how Sweed and Wifey get to tap it off makes one appreciate how much work is entailed.

Sweet pleasures come at a cost when imported, so one bottle a year has to go a long way....

Hello Galen. It's a pleasure to be back to your dynamic after many failed attempts. But, this is what life is all about, trying until you make it and I am really happy to start participating again.

I love your photography and what you express about it. Certainly, I imagine it was a unique moment of inner reflection and movement of feelings. We are really so small and it has been demonstrated in the last year and, unfortunately, many have not yet realized this great reality. That landscape you show and the aerial view, besides beautiful, is majestic. Thank you for sharing it.

I consider myself a sunset hunter. I have much photography of fabulous evening skies (well, I think so hahaha). However, I wanted to share this photography captured at a location in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, the city where I live.
Before the quarantine, when returning home, I would stop at this beach in the same city, where I would stay for a while contemplating the wonderful scenery and the colors that the sky gave me. Certainly, those are the moments in which we reaffirm that life is a great gift and does not show them in each of these daily gifts of nature. I have many months without being able to go for the reasons that we already know. However, I long to be in contact with that environment again and I hope that sooner rather than later I will be able to do it again.

The immensity of the sky and its colors, the flight of the seagulls in perfect formation, the water of the deep sea but at the same time so calm, breathing pure air in the middle of a hectic and polluted city, is priceless.

I love today to share it with you and all the wonderful people of this incredible dynamic. I am happy to be here again. A big hug for you.

Hi Mary, I like the effects in the clouds here and the birds flying along also enjoying the view add a nice touch also. I am also one who likes sunsets and always appreciate a good one like you have shared here.

It's nice to have you along this week, thanks for joining in!

From one angle they look like mini dragons in the sky

Wow @marybellrg what a beautiful sunset, I love how you captured the seagulls flying and the wonderful colors 😍,the accompanying message is sublime 🥰😘

Sound of song "go home" in my mind 🥰

degantis dangus 2019.jpg
few years ago I was driving with a bus and then I saw this. I like how the sky almost seems burning, I think that colors are beautiful. And I am happy that I was able to take this photo in time. Soon the bus crossed the bridge and the skyporn was much less visible.

This is a pretty nice sunset...I love sunsets to be honest as they feel like a free show courtesy of nature.

!ENGAGE 20

Cloudy.. clear.. rainy.. Each make for a great sunset.

Yeah, something to do with how the light refracts through particles in the air and the atmosphere itself I guess.

In LA, with all the smog and pollution which sounds gross, I know, welcome to the Pacific, sunsets are lavender's and green's and all kinda trippy colors unlike anywhere else I've been.

Thank goodness for human hubris, smog and overuse of the planet...Creates the best sunsets.

Gorgeous shot. Where were you driving with the bus to?

thank you. I was driving home.

The colors of the sunset always surprise me. They are so harmonious and beautiful. Nice photography.

Your photo looks spectacular. I love watching sunsets and the colors that form in the sky.

thank you.

You are welcome

This is a great photo! From a magazine
I love the colors and how the water looks 😍

Brutal sunset, it looks like one of those photos traced. Very nice 👏

Tapestry of light, brushed delight in flaming colours, awesome photo from the window @fieryfootprints

City sunrise

A sunrise in the middle of the city, loaded with many expectations, which defines me as a warrior and fighter woman and without the desire to give up, simply beautiful, and brave. San Fernando, a town founded as a tribute to King Ferdinand of Bourbon, then undoubtedly a beautiful municipality, which has the heart of warriors, heroes and heroines, men and women workers, fighters, independence fighters, poets and singers.
This dawn fills you with hope, new challenges that you will have to start again and again without giving up, a dawn full of new energy, necessary to start our day.
Proud to belong to this llanero soil and enjoy every morning this majestic sunrise.

Ok here is an image taking just at the beginning of the week at about 2pm but hey! Look well and observe the cloud is that how it should be at 2pm? Well that's nature for you.

I was on my way to get soft drinks from a nearby mall all of a sudden the weather changed immediately, the burning sun was pressed down and everything and everywhere was cool.

Trust me I liked this weather so much, it will look as if it was gonna rain but hell no it didn't, the weather was like that till at about 4:14pm, strange right😃

Immediately I thought I was in the Westhern part of the world. Because the place was so cool at that time.
The sky was dark but somehow I don't know down here was bright I don't know how it happened 🙆🤷🤔🤔. Nature nature.

That's a pretty stormy looking sky...I like storms, rain, thunder and lightning...But not wind.

!ENGAGE 20

wow that's nice, I do love storms exception of thunders and lightning they scare the living day light out of me haha... most especially lightning, I got electrocuted some years ago from lightning from that day I hated it 😁 😆

Getting struck by lightning never makes for a good day.

It doesn't at all, Gosh! That stuff got a lot of power I never knew not on till it struck me

A got struck by lightning post would be cool I think.

Really 😀!! Wow ok gonna write about that, thanks

can i post it here in the weekend community?

You should love it since you survived ;). Also play the lottery, chances are higher to win than to get struck by lightning ;).

Really I should have like it but I can't, and I can't do anything about it🤣
Lottery? Ok nice idea I would try doing that😎 thanks 👍

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

thanks I do appreciate

Did it rain or just get cold and dark?

It didn't rain, just got cold. And dark sky😃

That is interesting. Anytime I've seen a sky do that it brings buckets of water along with it.

Great photo. 👍🏿

great i do love that weather, thanks for engaging

Fantastic natural world, amazing places to explore where you've been. I have chosen also a world of snow, ice and glaciers, the world famous Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe at 3454 m above sea level in the middle of imposing mountain peaks. Arrived at the top a spectacular, Alpine dream panorama, it was also a cozy quiet trip since the tourists were not traveling at this time.

IMG_20201031.jpg

This is cool, a nice snowy vista. When did you go to this location and how did you get there?

!ENGAGE 20

By train from Interlaken first to Lauterbrunnen. Then with two rack railroads and then with the Jungfrau Railway up to the Jungfraujoch, with a helicopter would also be possible as below in video.

Is like to take a helicopter there...I think it would be spectacular.

We were there last year so in November after that was closed for a while

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Ops! Snow is also my thing, I love snow though never seen one before or knows how it looked like😀 I would love to see one some day😎

One of my unfulfilled wishes is to be able to touch the snow. Here in Venezuela, there are very few places where there is. Only in the state of Merida, there is a mountain high enough for it to fall. Beautiful photography, I love it.

Beautiful photo, it evokes a lot of peace.

I have not had the opportunity to visit a place like this, beyond what I can see in movies and pictures, and in my own mind when I travel. I fell in love with this photo 😍

Birds-eye view what a glorious day at the altitude with clear skies @almi now that is something to be desired.

Hah - I was contemplating choosing one of my Alpine photos, Jungfraujoch, Schynige Platte, winter or summer - and I failed. Too many photos to choose from. But it is so beautiful up there, I can only imagine how it is without so many tourists...

I converted the measurement and dayum!! 3454 meters is way up there, gorgeous shot.

That is fantastic 👏

I have so many pictures from the things we’ve done but I’m going to stick with something recent!

E11BBAD9-74CE-4D7F-98A2-7A02F225AB13.jpeg

Fishing has been one of my favorite things to do for a long time. I’ve been doing it since I was a kid when my dad showed me how to fish and what to do. It’s a great way to relax and pass time but what I enjoy the most about it is the memories of spending time with my dad. Some of my earliest memories are fishing which I really enjoy. I’m hoping that by doing this same thing with our son he will be able to look back when he’s my age fondly on the memories of fishing with me. It’s a fun way to also connect back with nature, something that is becoming less popular to do by many people. It’s one of the things that I want to try my best to change, through our son and other kids if I can get them to come with us. Fishing is also a way to teach someone patience and appreciation of nature, the fish are the first ones to die and show signs of bad things with water.

I bet you haven't taught him the how to hold your mouth trick yet.

Nature-fish!

It's good that you're teaching the little guy stuff like this, so many let kids play on a device and lie to themselves that it's to help them develop, an educational game when it's really about giving the parent time to be on Facebook.

!ENGAGE 20

Hahah sorry I was trying to hammer out a comment while Siena and the little man were in the store. We went to the beach today, a definite runner up to my choice of where I would love to be with the natural world but that’s a given for us. Being on a lake or a river fishing is my spot for sure. It’s relaxing, very quiet usually and you can connect back with nature and the plants and animals around you.

All good mate, we do what we do when we can right?

I'm not much of a fisher to be honest, more a hunter, but I don't mind having a fish now and then...Even if I don't catch anything. Lol.

When I saw your post pop up on Friday I really thought this would be an easy one for me. You know photographer, travelled a lot, love sunrises, sunsets, clouds, pretty little things on nature walks etc. etc. etc. - and exactly there lies the problem: I have sooooo many effin' photos that I just couldn't pick just one. There is not just one special one in my collection. Depending on time and mood this changes quite radically. So, what to do?
Hubby to the rescue: Hey, hubby, there's this thing on that weird blockchain place that I am blogging on. And somebody challenged us to post a photo of a special natural something and I just cannot decide on one. You know my photos, which one would you pick?
Without hesitation, he said: The one in Greece, with the turquoise water and the tree. And I knew exactly which one he meant, immediately. This one.

PortoKatsiki.jpg
This is Porto Katsiki on Lefkada, Greece. No filters used, no nothing. The water is really that beautiful and intense color. When living in Germany we used to spend summer vacations on Lefkada to go windsurfing. On non-windy days we'd go explore e.g. to Porto Katsiki. It is a well-known beach, for obvious reasons, so there can be quite a crowd, but as you can see, we went quite far down the beach and were alone at that point. Those Lefkada days were good times and one day we'll go back and re-visit.
Here is a photo of the beach and surf - so crystal clear... and again - no filters used.

PortoKatsiki1.jpg

Hubby's know best it seems...Or in this case at least. 🤣

Great picture, the first I mean, and a super-good choice. I can picture myself there, a picnic and a special person with me...Drinking in the view. Nice!

That beach too, so nice, and smart to get away from people...People ruin nature mostly. 😁

Tell your husband that weirdo from weird blockchain place approves of his choice.

!ENGAGE 20

You would like that place, you know why? Not sure if you can tell from the photo, but it's a pebble beach, no sand!

Well, hubby has been with me to many of the places visited, so he knows them all - and sometimes dreaded all the time I spent taking photos, getting the right angle, etc. Of course, his experience of each place is somewhat different from mine, however, we are happily married for a reason 💓.

I showed him your comment and he chuckled 😋. I actually made him an account yesterday. He has seen me play Splinterlands and wants to give it a go, he's a writer (two self-published novels are out, more are in the works) and gamer among (many) other things.

Pebble beaches are preferable yes, I'm sure I'd like it.

It's cool your husband has made an account, well you did for him, I'm not sure what Splinterlands actually is to be honest but I hope he enjoys himself in between book writing.

OMG! It is such a beautiful blue! I loved it, it looks unreal that color 😍
Amazing!!

It is, right? That blue is really pretty amazingly unreal, but - it is real. As I said no filters or such necessary.

Totally amazing! 😍

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

iheart Greece, "guilty." If my wife had her way we'd be there now. And we didn't even get to the turquoise water yet! We stayed between Thessaloniki and Meteora and just loved everything about it.

Greece is beautiful. We have been to several of the islands, but strangely enough never to the mainland (though there is a landbridge Lefkada is an island). Not for lack of wanting to go there, but our main goal has always been to go windsurfing, and Vassiliki on Lefkada is a great spot for it.

I hope you get to go soon! For us it will be a while before we are going to make it.

The blue of this sea left me eclipsed. I close my eyes and imagine myself in that warm, sky-blue water. Fabulous photo! I loved it!

Thank you for your kind words @marybellrg!

I really hate to give you one additional piece of information. But the water did not feel warm at all, not like the Caribbean. Granted it was early summer, pre-season, and the air-temps were very warm, so it could have just been the difference in temperatures.

Apart from that - I'm right there with you, I can still see it very lively in my head.

Old gnarled tree framing intense blue sea and sky, fantastic photography @oceanbee no wonder this popped up as "The One" to share!

You're right on - I'm always in search of the right angle to frame a shot, none of this 'just point and shoot' nonsense.

Thank you, Joan, really appreciate your kind words.

What a beautiful blue, what a beautiful beach. An earthly paradise.

Indeed, it is an amazing place to be. Wish I was there right now 🙂.

Thanks for your comment.

Such gorgeous shots! So stunning 💙

Thank you very much.

Oh, I've been looking for that natural condition that you shared. My attempts are not that...exemplary of it. Anyway. No time now but I shall try and post some photo on the topic these days...I hope.

Cheers!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. ✅

Aye...

I shall call this one...

Nature selected to leave no trees on this slope. Only a single fir (or something something pine) decided it should move before the lava reached it. Still hiding. Imagine the memories it keeps of the event. A single survivor of a catastrophe. The Robinson Tree. It Is A Legend.

Great @galenkp thanks for sharing, the image you shared just looked like painting it took me a while to fully understand what it was, it so lovely. I should definitely go to Zealand some day I have heard quiet interesting things about the place. Thanks for sharing. Am glad I found a community like this. Sure I will😀 thanks am loving this🤣🤣

New Zealand is a very beautiful place full of great natural wonders. If you get the chance you should go there.

Sure I will one day go there, it's on my list already 😀

Cool. Maybe I'll bump into you there if I happen to be around the place at the same time.

Ok. Noted👍

Fascinante este post , la naturaleza siempre ha sido una conexión entre lo sobrenatural y el hombre

Beautiful the phrase you quoted and the image is wonderful, imposing and beautiful mountains!!!! I loved it 😍

I love this week's invitation, I'm going to look for my photo to participate while I'm enjoying all the nature you will be sharing here 😊

I look forward to seeing it.

A region of intrigue, one I would enjoy getting to, rough, rugged with plenty to explore @plint. Friends managed to go there a couple of years ago, came back with nothing but a very positive experience.

I read the rules again and it specifically says one so this photo captioned: Nature In Nature is a terribly example.

img_3363.heic

I notice you're coming from the direction of lovers walk so hope that was a tantalising area for you to have explored. :)

Nice!!

Can't get to Chimney Field without a tantalizing stroll.

Chimney Field VA?

Beautiful place, I have not had the joy of visiting it, but without a doubt it is very beautiful and impotent.

Yes, very beautiful indeed.

reminds me of my travels in the Philippines. Travelling and trekking reduces my stress at work :-)
