Week 46 Hive Open Mic slowly lowers its curtains. Many talented musicians took the stage, congratulations to everyone. The theme was Forgiveness. So many beautiful voices and emotions were shown, a real pleasure to listen to.

For me, this has been a busy week, both in private life and here on the platform. It's so nice to meet new people, new conversations are coming, old acquaintances are deepening. You know, for a good relationship, you need to have a good attitude, work the way you feel is good for everyone around you, but sometimes it happens that a person hurts another person. Sometimes with intent and sometimes by accident. The injured person has a difficult task ahead, to forgive. It is not always easy to forgive, it can be a long healing process. But still, one should try to step over, and develop itself towards love, towards joy.

One has to be able to forgive itself, also. If we are not satisfied with ourselves and don't like our actions, we should forgive ourselves and correct our bad habits, step over and try again. Now, I have to forgive myself for being so late for this week entry for #openmic. I hope that still, it can bring joy to the listeners.

My entry is a song composed by Lewis Capaldi, a young Scottish singer and songwriter. I love this song and a few other ones composed by him, so if I will have another occasion, I will play them also. The song is called Someone You Loved. I recorded the image with my phone and the audio with an audio interface. I started to learn to use it about one week ago, so this is the first time I use it for Hive Open Mic. This is why I have my headphones on. I didn't use any extra effect, it is just how I played, and I am very happy to explore the dynamic possibilities it can bring to my playing. I play it in more rhythmically free way as use rubato as I would play a classical piece. Hope it will bring some nice musical moments to you also.

I have met many Spanish speaking users here, so for them I will translate my text to Spanish as well.

I know that it sounds like I am returning the favour because you posted a comment on my video, but I was just want to say out loud that I would have probably reblogged and voted your post the same.

Excellent. I love the changes of tempi, you could have even emphasized it more as you are playing "Live", it has a cinematic feeling to it... Can we appreciate for a second the quality of the recording guys?

Regarding these chords that you think out of place, I also felt it as a musician and I know exactly where they are, but can I tell you something?

I think you should own these mistakes and pretend it was on purpose, I very often do that and no one notice the difference hahaha. As @betrayo said, it's actually your reaction that makes us notice that there is "something wrong" (nothing is ever wrong in music though).

Anyway, great stuff!

Wow, some great words about music and those little errors. As a music fan, I do appreciate some errors here and there, makes the music feel more real. But also, as you mentioned, the listener usually don't hear the small errors, unless someone points them out. LOVE it that you add some errors in intentionally just to check if other hear them! What would live be when not folling others from time to time 🤣🤣🤣

I wish more people were like you buddy. Today, we live in a word of photoshop and autotune, people want constant perfection!

I try and help to spread the word. Autotune and Sync features. So hated by my DJ friends who learned DJing the old way, with real vinyl's without some software doing the trick for them.

Yeah and imagine in 20 years, there will be almost no musos!

In 20 yrs we have AI creating the most amazing musical experiences for us. Artists and former-DJs can lay back, relax and NJOY 🙃

and in 40 years the audience will be robots too 😁

Oh thanks @edprivat for your such a great comment. I know how much @edje appreciates you, so I was trying to gain confidence to even comment on your post 😂. The feeling you want to talk to a famous person and you are shy at the same time..

I recognized the work you did for your video as I record my videos like hundred times...ok not so much, but the time that is needed...Imagine, there were some recordings I made from the first attempt, that was a good feeling 😅

But the same good feeling is when I study for days, record hours, write hours and love comes out of everything 💙😇🎶

The mistake (I count two) would not be maybe noticed, right...but I told him (bertrayo) to find it :) The same was edje challenged once, to find a mistake 😅
But that is the way how we play in live concerts also, we are not machines or perfect players 🤷🏻‍♀️😇

Great you found your confidence.... But speaking on behalf of edprivat (not knowing him at all, just as of recent with the Talk Talk cover post and whatever came after), edprivat is a very approachable and kind person and no confidence is required to chat with him 🙃 But still, great you did! 😉

Please don't be a robot or machine. Music should sound organic and real. You may like to read my comment to edprivat early comment above as well. In a few more words why errors are allowed, or should actually be part of music 🙃

I allow you to talk on my behalf, from one Ed to another!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks soooooo much.... That little comment made my day! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, he is really kind, I am so happy we talked few times more in other posts too. Nice person, indeed.

I hope you don't really think I am a robot 🤣
But who knows...
Yes, errors will be a part of music, however it doesn't mean we should not try to do our best, or publish with an annoying mistake that can cause hearing impairment of the listeners.

I hope you don't really think I am a robot 🤣

Absolutely not! 😂😂😂

annoying mistake that can cause hearing impairment of the listeners

you are taking it too far.... but its really funny to read 😂😂😂

The feeling you want to talk to a famous person and you are shy at the same time..

OMG how did I missed that!!! I am also very shy, and hide it under quirks and terrible jokes, so I second that!

I recognized the work you did for your video as I record my videos like hundred times...ok not so much, but the time that is needed...Imagine, there were some recordings I made from the first attempt, that was a good feeling 😅

I know what you mean, before starting the recording there's always a sense of "how am i gonna do this?" and once it's recorded, I almost forget how long it took. It's known that women forget about the pain of labour, I see it a bit the same way...

But that is the way how we play in live concerts also, we are not machines or perfect players

For the last 4 years, everything i recorded on video was always live, only to realise that I did not get any traction, my YouTube channel still has only 90 subs, meanwhile the people that fake it have much more traction, because it's easier to the eye and ear. I've made the conscious decision to take it to the next level, with a special attention to detail. I still prefer a live performance at the end of the day.!

OMG how did I missed that

It's ok :) I suppose there were a lot of other comments in various posts at the same time (yours) so it is just normal.

I will jump right to the end. So, now you have 91 subscribed people on your channel.

I never wanted to build my youtube channel, 18 subscribers? To much, I don't want lot of people watch my videos, I put on private the previous ones and just left the recent, even I put to private when some weeks passes. However, I am not that same feeling on lbry (odysee) platform. 1,964 followers in 11 motnhs 😱 🤣

A beautiful piece of music that for some reason reminded me of the flow of the ocean waves.
Well played of course and I have learned to forgive mysel and others a long time ago my friend.

Blessings and you deserve a glass of !WINE

Thank you @papilloncharity for your comment :) yes, that accompaniment in the left hand can remind us of waves, first calm ones, than a bit of storm maybe and calming down again ☺️

Forgiving ourselves, yes, I think no true happiness can be achieved without that 🤗

As I have heard a really nice phrase today : "I was born happy"
Than things happen, we just mess up everything in our head, but when self-forgiveness happen, we are back to that innocent joy, right?

Good morning and yes, I saw an ocean wave calmy rising, then came a crescendo and the wave came crashing down, to only return to a final calm flow. The music was great and congrats.

Sadly when we become adults and do many things that we know that we shouldn't do our minds become cluttered with guilt and the innocense disappears my friend.

Blessings and !BEER
Forgiving oneself and correcting our ways is the only way to go. It is called "repentance"

Forgiving oneself and correcting our ways is the only way to go. It is called "repentance"

Yes, no other way! Thank you for your wise words and time @papilloncharity , much appreciated. Blessings to you too and thank you for being a light in this world 💙

Thank you for the kind message my friend.

I hope that I still have one !BEER left to give you. If you don't receive it let me know, then I will give you one tomorrow.

Thank you @papilloncharity , I think I received, but please please don't worry about that, no need of beer :-) . I like the engagement and chit-chat, you really don't need to share with me beer on the top of it 🤗

Strange how we are as people my friend.
Some wants beer tokens and others don't as they value the chit-chat as you call it more.
In my mind I am in agreement with you, as in chit chat we can get to know others better and we can also grow together. Engagement is the way to enjoy Hive and I see that you are doing well.

Btw. My name is Zac.
Blessings!

Beautiful piece and played in a superb way! I like how you let free of conventions from classical music but keep the elegance in technique and poise. You told me about certain chords that were slightly out of place. I think I saw them, but it was more of a visual cue. Your body reacts to that kind of mistake, however there's merit in going on with the performance as professional players do when something like that happens.

Hope to listen to other songs by this composer played by those magical hands soon enough.

Wait, I have to watch my video again. I didn't realize I reacted visually to the chord where my finger slipped off the key.

Edit: I just noticed that I looked down at the keys in that millisecond, like "mirada asesina" 🤣

Ha, ha, ha. That's how I knew what happened. But it's ok. I think we can't help being expressive while we play. I made a lot of faces when I sang in the choir and when I conducted. It was hilarious. 🤣

You conucted a choir? Cool!
Yes, conductors have to be like that. They have to tell with the expression on their face.
I know a choir conductor, to be exact, I hold piano lessons with his wife in the same center. He is so expressive while conducting, when someone does something wrong in the choir, he kills with his look hahaha

I was Assistant Conductor of the University's Choir for some time. I think a year or a bit more. The Conductor had this thing of throwing me in the fray from time to time, so I had to learn the job on the fly. It's a funny thing to do, but my legs where always shaking. I know the killing looks. It's needed!

but my legs where always shaking

Oh, I can imagine, mine would shake also :)

It's quite an experience!

Have never heard of this Scottish guy and no clue what and how he sings, but am ok with that. Your piece I do like very much and I'll leave it like that, ie will not check this Scottish guy. You say you play more rhythmically with the headphones. I suppose I need to hear the same piece with headphones to tell the difference :) BTW, why do you have to forgive yourself for the 'late' entry? Is the deadline over? And even so? Anyways, you are forgiven! :)

 3 years ago (edited)

You say you play more rhythmically with the headphones

Ok, I think I didn't write down well...Oh my English. So, I played with the headphones to hear what I play at the same time, as the piano is connected with the interface so I can not hear the sound of the piano otherwise. I have to have headphones to hear what I play.

I chose to play rhythmically free, not so in time as in original song. Hear here , check it out!!! Don't stay with my interpretation :)

I was in love with this song about one year ago, and there are two more I want to play

Before you go

Bruises

Thank you for listening to me 🤗 (and the dynamics can be heard better with the headphones)

I have to forgive myself as yesterday was the last day to publish. I listened to everyone in the last 3-4 days, and my entry didn't have to time to be prepared before haha

Hahaha you become so dedicated to HIVE you have the forgive yourself! Have been there, but left that behind :) Nothing is mandatory at HIVE, so nothing to forgive when not entering in some challenge, or not attending to HIVE for some time. But, I leave you to what you feel you need to :)

Owww, this scottish guy I recognise. Not sure of this song is the one, or some other that is very similar. Can it be, this guy was used for a Volve advertisement? Have the feeling with another song, but very similar to this one. Your version I like better btw :)

Piano: so your piano is not 100% mechanic, but its electric of some sort? Like my neighbours one? His version has mechanics behind the keys but sensors where the strings usually are. Headphones and other electronic equipment can be connected to his piano. He calls it some name, but don't remeber anymore. What I do remember he played the Cheers series tune the other day and I asked him: "CHEERS, where where when when?"... He answered: "I Don't Know"... turned out, he didn;'t realise he played that title song of this series :)

Yes, kinda went a bit too much with the feeling of doing the things at time, organized, well, etc. Can not be handled always, I know. It is not mandatory, I know :D
However, Hive Open Mic IS a weekly event, so today a new topic will be announced.

Ok, you recognized him, great :-) The time I discovered him I listened to this song and Bruises song xy times....you know, when you know where the singer will breath, how the voice will vibrate, or the piano string s' vibrations are anticipated in your mind already. I made arrangement for violin and piano, and played with my son at home for days....we wanted to record, but then time just passed and he now doesn't like anymore this song 😔

You like better my version? You just say this as you know me, right? 😜🤩😂

Last paragraph: Oh, I see that the music community will receive a detailed post of the piano history, mechanism, types and connected stuff to this... Although it would need some time. When I cut back on engagement 😂

You like better my version? You just say this as you know me, right? 😜🤩😂

Absolutely! .... NOPE, not at all.... That 'absolutely' was a lie :) ... By now you know, I'm more into instrumentals than in vocals. That's one reason I like you version more. In many music genres and styles, I like the more minimalistic approaches to music more than anything else. As you can hear from my set recording I shared with my previous Spread the Vibes post and compare them for instance with music Uwe posts. I can show you albums that are so miimalistic, many people will not call it music. Sometimes I use the word: Soundscaping for these albums. Anyway, that's a topic for another post, and I'm digressing too much already 😉

Spoiler alert 😁

Ok, waiting for a post of minimalistic music 🎵 :)

Ok, does this mean I'm on an assignment? 😉

Bellissima interpretazione, cara Gabriella!

Ho condiviso questo tuo post con mia figlia, che ama Lewis Capaldi (si è pure comprata una maglietta con la sua foto e l'ha attesa con trepidazione per un mese e mezzo!)

Thank you Matteo,

And did she like how I play it? Not the same, it is just piano hehehe :)

Love accepted 🤗 💙 but you know that wine is not anymore available? One has to have staked at least 25 wine tokens to be able to share, but your intention counts :) Thank you :)

¡felicidades!.
Hehehe muchas gracias me esforzare en mejorar @mipiano

Gracias @franciscodesousa por tus palabras :)

I liked your reasoning about forgiveness.
I can forgive a person, but I can not forgive.

I'm not a vindictive person - I just have a good memory :-)

I have good memory also, but I don't think anymore about the wounds happened in the past. It is just futile. But I know what you think :)

I completely agree with you, and you are right - I think.
I want to get rid of it, but I still can't :-(

Yes! I recognize this song from the Pop radio station, and from some recent weddings. Yet, it never sounded quite as good as your rendition here. Almost feels like this song was really meant for solo piano, and maybe it was meant your you right in this moment. And maybe it was meant for my ears, and my happy heart. I just love it. Love the way you play it so tenderly, at times lifting the energy and at times holding back, just like a hug.

Thank you for joining in and enjoying Hive Open Mic

How nice comparison, like a hug 🤗

Almost feels like this song was really meant for solo piano

So you like piano version too... Some relaxing music without words is good sometimes. In the past, more precisily in romanticism, there were composers who wrote pieces in song form (like melody and accompaniment) without words. For example Mendelssohn, I played here in openmic one of his Songs without words.

Song without words happened here with Lewis Capaldi 😁
