The genie says:
"You're shipwrecked on this deserted paradise island and for releasing me from that bottle I will grant you three wishes...But all my magic can do is bring three people here to the island to be cast away with you. At least one has to be a hive community-member, but all three could be if you like, it's your choice whom you bring and why."

Sometimes it's difficult to see the light at the end of a dark tunnel, but it's there and will reveal itself. The journey through that darkness will make finding that light, and emerging into it, more valuable in time.
Your dad is quite right with that one! Very honest words there, it seems challenging at the time but failures most often lead us to grow in different ways we didn't expect. If we never fail we never know what it feels like and that could be more dangerous.
I know this chap will rise from the ashes of his burned relationship, it might not seem like that to him at the moment though. Life bites sometimes and all we can do is stand up one more time than we fall.

Ah that's a really tough moment to be in, sorry that you had a relationship end! 10 years is a long time but perhaps it's good that it was 10 years instead of 40 to find out the person hated you for the last 30 years? It's absolutely difficult but keep one foot in front of the other and keep going, it will get better and I'm sure you will come out the other end of this a stronger person.
Perhaps the third person could be someone you've never known or met? That could foster a new friendship and help bring back some sanity to a challenging time!
I know that at the moment it is probably impossible to look at your situation this way but I think that you were very lucky. being together for so long is quite rare. Many people don't last that long. And some don't even get to meet with the person they like. to share a cup of coffee or a dance together. to see their smile in person or hear their laugh... Future is not guaranteed so in my opinion dreams about being together forever are not realistic( even though in the past I was guilty of that as well). I am sure that during those 10 years you shared many great moments and made awesome memories together. I think you should cherish those memories , remember a great journey you had together and focus less on how that journey ended.

When marooned on a deserted island of paradise the good times must roll and I reckon we could fix it so we had plenty of laughs and a fun atmosphere. I also ran into @jonamccallum last week and I think he's a good choice...He could teach us to surf (I surf already, but am the worst surfer on the planet) and I think we'd have a few laughs for sure.

Yes hopefully there would be a good supply of fresh water, fruit, some fishing gear and if there are some waves to surf all the better! Fun to think about what it would be like.
I reckon there'll be loads of fresh water from an underground spring so after surfing we could have a shower in the rejuvenating waters of the underground spring then adjourn to the beach to watch the sunset whilst we eat a dinner of fresh fish, pineapples and mango. No ice cream, but one can't have everything in life. 😏
That sounds amazing, my only addition would be a bunch of passion fruit vines entangling the whole island providing a steady supply of fruit.

It's a volcanic island, so we'd be able to crack obsidian to make sharp edged tools. Hopefully somebody left a few chickens and 3 piggies. So we could have bacon and eggs, of course. I wonder how palm tree wood (it's not really wood) would be for smoking? It certainly burns smoky enough.

Well there is bound to be many Palm trees on the island.
So, I am a good fisherman for sushi and I would pick one of the handy guys on the @DIY channel for raft building, we can use the trunks and rope them with strips of palm leaves that a lady like @plantstoplanks can weave together. What shall we use for a sail?
Easy, everone's clothing stiched together with strips of palm leaves. Palm tree thorns can make excellent needles to make holes for the leaf strips.
For security in case of skarks or if we land in a strange land amonst some cannibals, who would be a better option than the G-Dog @galenkp with an LMG and 2 cases of ammo. We shall become the rulers of the new land Selah.
They shall call us the gods of the ocean and load us with gold and other treasures.

I like that, also the lavish with gold and treasures part. That seems like a perfect way to make the best of a castaway situation. The DIY dude could fashion crowns from coconuts and sceptres from sticks!
Of course we'd eat like king's with you providing the fish and other seafood delights and we could all eat naked because our clothes have been made into sails. That's ok though, we could use palm leaves to maintain some degree of modesty, all woven together with vines sourced locally of course.
I'll head up security and make sure the sharks don't trouble us and I suppose I could also help with some of the heavy lifting when making our palm tree raft as long as I was able to grab an afternoon nap of course.
I think you'd be a good candidate for ambassador when dealing with visiting island nations or cannibalistic tribes as you have great wisdom or patience and, failing diplomatic endeavours, I'll just go to war with them and dominate. Seems to be the human way.
The perfect mix of skills and a good basis for a comfortable castaway existence I'd say.

It is always a challenge just to choose 3 people. This has been fun to think about and I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses.

I think @santigs would have much to bring to the table, not that there would be much of a table on the island I guess. I have had a lot of interaction with him and he is a savvy, smart and generous guy with a great sense of humor. I good choice for sure. I believe @mipano is also a great choice although we'd have to fashion a piano out of shells, vines and palm trees before she could play us some tunes. I'm pretty sure we cold make it happen though - I mean it's a piano, how hard could it be to make one? Lol.
I didn't know you're Australian mate, I'm not sure if you said it before and I missed it? Sorry. I'm sure we'd have some fun teaching the other two all of our Aussie slang and, as you know, it's always enjoyable and entertaining to hear people try to imitate the Australian accent.

There IS one instrument, kalimba, also called thumb piano that can be made of a coconut shell.

You've got the muscle and guns, aka Galen, the meme-artist, Ladybug who also doubles as the cook and comic, Bertrayo's poetic skills and yourself who writes the stories and books of it all! What a classic!
The first choice Mr Genie is clear to me, if I am to be here for any amount of time I would like for you to transport my wife @shasta here, of course you will have to transport out beloved pets also for I know you would not want the lives of them on your hands as the die of loneliness at home from missing her, you can view them as part and parcel of her.
Now the other two choices are going to be a bit hard Mr Genie. So since everyone knows on Paradise Island all who fall here revert or grow to the age of 37, while this may be a shock to people in their early 20's, for those of us well beyond that age it is what makes Paradise Island...well a paradise.
So hard to pick and choose who the other two would be. Thor Heyerdahl I think would be right up there in picks especially if it is just a smallish Island. Like Hawaii size. After all who wants to take a chance on an island that is small and might blow up and sink itself back into the sea. My wife and I could have him build us a boat out of the available materials that would be ocean safe.
In the event I did choose Thor, I think the other person would be Jacques Cousteau, he could navigate and sail us to one of the mainlands if we were indeed on a smallish Island.
If Paradise Island was half the size of Australia then I would have two different choices. Half the size of Australia is the only size of Island I would want to be stranded on. England would be to small of an Island. So I'm getting tired and will just speculate to myself who I would pick if i was on a Paradise island that I could finish my life out on.
You always make me think. I wonder what the minimum size Island would be that I'd wake up every day thankful for the rescue rather than pissed about the lack of diversity to see...
I'm thinking any decent God fearin' 'merican Genie would know that Sam needs to go with me as part and parcel of me, not part of the negotiations. Otherwise screw the bugger and his bottle.
Thor Heyerdahl would be a really great choice. I don't know about his navigational skills, but his can do this with these historic parts would be gold I'm thinking. Plus all his stories!
That was the why of my second smallish Island choice, I think he knows his way around the oceans. Diversity for me counts a lot, and small islands just do not have enough room.
Good old Sam would certainly be free to come, as close to a human as they sometimes act and make us feel, he's a free companion so three more plus him is great!

I did the Island thing for awhile, and well they get small pretty fast, still it was Paradise Island, and some time may be want to be spent there, and if it was a big Island choices would be different. (well second two would be, first choice would always be the same).
If it was a big island I think my second pick would be the first person that ever put a Genie in a bottle.
Well, as far as big islands go they don't get any bigger than Australia so maybe that's where you need to bring that lady of yours as I think you'd like it here. You'll need some time though, I've lived here for all of my (almost) 51 years and haven't seen it all. Far from it.

I will have to look up the Thor you're referring to, not sure if that's the Norse god or not. After a quick search it is indeed not the one I was thinking of. That guy sounds like a solid guy to have! He will certainly get you off the island, with his success of sailing in a homemade raft.

Yes, she is bigger than me with 3 years. She has 2 kids and sometimes I am terrified seing that while I grew up into my 30's her kids are already 10 and 11.
I would not die and I would not go hungry with ya on the island. So it was a no brainer.
My sister remained in my native town far away from me. So everytime I go and visit I try to recuperate lost time. I see how much kids grow in a year...

We are in summer in this area of the world, when temperatures rise a lot, the use of air conditioners increases, this causes the electrical service to collapse, the provider company has never made an investment maintaining the electrical lines, it is the reason for having a service deficient and on many occasions we run out of power and power supply, this usually affects my stay on our platform

Without a doubt, I would take my best friend @heypuch, with her I can talk about anything and I have a lot of fun. Sure the days would be more pleasant. Since we're both going to be there, I'd ask the genie to bring us Zac Efron and Brandon Flowers. (We weren't necessarily supposed to meet our guests, did we?).
That these two men are really attractive to us has nothing to do with the invitation, of course not. Just that I would like to have the opportunity to talk with them, even though my English is terrible and I depend a lot on the google translator. Even so, I would make the effort to understand them and that they understand me so that I can talk with them and know about their lives.
That's right, these are the three people I would take. And if we are going to be on an island I hope it is a paradise and that my guests wear swimming suits! 😚

I can see the logic in your all male or all female scenario...History is full of examples of what the injection of the other sex to a scenario can do. So, so a logical approach isn't a bad way to go.

I think the Hive community is full of right-choices people for a lot of possible tasks. No need to look for help from some Bear Grylls or Chuck Norris elsewhere. A Deus Ex Machina would spoil the story.
There's a lot of hype made about the made for TV Bear Grylls. He likes to blow his own horn. Just saying. Modesty isn't his strong suit.
I do! Can we go tomorrow? The first problem is that I'd need to embrace naturalism and let the ding-dong free. The second is that I'd never want to go back home. I'm willing to help the others escape though. Then I'd explore the island in search for natives, where a marriage would result from the months living among them. Then you all can come and visit our family, hopefully in a better-constructed boat.

Of course there are people I like so it'd be cool to have a few with me. I'm most comfortable in the wilderness, the outback, and value my time there. Seems you're the same.

I've realized that people add tons of useless noise after spending so much time traveling alone. I'm no longer used to receiving such a load of information. Sometimes I feel dizzy among friends--mostly old friends who do not follow the same interests as myself anymore--, so I avoid big meetings. Solidute is addictive; we get used to the silence.
I believe that many will never experience true solitude but am fortunate to have the chance to find it myself as I often travel to remote and unpopulated areas...It helps keep me sane. Mostly sane.. 😀
@lyubo19 would certainly be a good companion to have, I think! Wonder if he will partake in any of the fun weekend stuff here :P

I'm surprised to only see one other response for this but I would absolutely have my wife @ssiena on the island with me! One of the reasons is that if I were stranded on an island, I would want a beautiful woman. Who better than my wife by my side? I would enjoy our time fornicating as often as we could! Yeah, not going to lie that's one of my primary motives for that one. Besides that though, it would be such an awesome experience to have her with me and we could do all kinds of things outdoors and have quality family time together. Purely being outdoors on a beautiful desert island, unlike when we are stuck here in New England in our condo with little outdoor space, sounds like a wonderful time to me.
Which brings me to the next occupant, the little man! I think it would be awesome to have him there with us, getting up to all kinds of shenanigans, and learning alongside Siena and I on how to survive on a desert island would be right up his alley. In fact, his favorite shows on YouTube are a family that spends a lot of time surviving and living in Hawaii (real struggle, doesn't it sound like?) and other places like Washington. Really remarkable stuff that I think we could certainly get behind! The little man would certainly be not around for the fornication, of course.
For my third member besides those two, hmm.. I think it would definitely be my dad. He's great at building things, though I wouldn't enjoy his bitching and moaning about being on an island (he does like to complain about things), when you get him into doing something you can be damn sure that it's going to be done right! The added benefit for me is to get him away from the shitty scenario he's stuck in at home and he benefits because he gets to bring his guns. We would certainly need an ample supply of ammo but I think we could have some good times and my dad would get to spend as much time as possible with our son!

We've been watching Alone, and we are up to Series 5, so we definitely have the shelter thing sorted and probably have already got a line or ten out, and have foraged the beach for what we can use to set traps for fish, maybe have even made a net. Actually - maybe we don't need any HIVE folk, so long as we have each other. To be honest, that's all we ever need, against the world.

Ok, so it's Sunday and the weekend is nearly over and I've been stuck on this topic all weekend. I honestly have no idea who I would bring. It's one of the most challenging questions I've been asked for I don't know..typically this question is "What objects would you bring? a relatively easy question. One interviews ask at low level jobs to see where your logic is and your critical thought process.
Asking me what people, now that's a hard one.
I've sat long and hard for this and I hope you enjoy my answer.
The two people I would bring are my kids. They'd have a ball but mainly to give my wife a break. Plus, after a few days she'd probably go insane and track us down and get to us. She knows I have epic fun with the kids, always telling me to take them out to give her a break than complains that she has missed out on all the fun.
Lil Miss 4 is quite the talker these days and I always tell her "don't tell mum we just went rock climbing she will lose her shit literally we go on some hard core tracks that aren't amateurish. Then I end up having to piggy back her alot of the way. Great resistance training for me.
I have stopped taking pictures of us walking cliff faces to waterfalls because mum, well she's a mum.
The hive user, now this is a hard one as there are soooo many people I thought about. But I landed on one.
@galenkp why? Well the man has a real estate background. If we're stranded on a deserted Island it means real estate! The man would have some serious knowledge and connections in the market to be able to survey the area and turn our down fall into a windfall.
I'm sure there would be some form of laws around the place about claiming. But we're there and no one else is. Survival stories are great at peaking public interest and everyone's going to want to see how the survivors well, survived.
I'm going to need a man that can turn a desolated tropical island into a paradise location to host weddings and escape the world. So @galenkp it is.

Yes!!! See totally. I told the Mrs and she said I wasn't allowed to go without her. So unfortunately I am unable to get stranded on a deserted Island.
Hypothetically speaking it would be good to set base camp up high to give a good 360degree view. You'd want a straight run to a bay so you can launch boats away from big waves and a nice flat level ground for a run way.
If we can get a 5km runway in, we'd be able to get some major flights and also tender out to military for potential income.

On the other hand, incredibly the ocean terrifies me a lot hahaha. My recurring nightmares are usually about the sea. So I can't imagine being in that situation.
I'd want to take my cat too, Cleo is a major part of my life and I'd not feel very good if she wasn't there so I understand you wanting Bruno there!
What is it about the ocean that terrifies you so much? Is it that it's uncontrollable? Or is it that it's so deep. I think many are uncomfortable with it though, so I wouldn't feel bad if I were you.

Well, I think it has to do with the fact that the ocean is so big and deep that I feel so small, you know. It makes me get anxious. Also, I cannot watch any movie that has tsunamis and big waves because it gets me nervous.
For instance, I was watching this Sci- Fi movie "Underwater", and it was about these underwater bases that exploited oil in the Marianas trench, and then strange creatures appeared. But the whole underwater theme made me jump with fright.

Yep, I get it...The ocean can be scary...Loads of things down there that'll kill a person too I guess. It's a common fear I think.
When I travel to Margarita Island (here in Venezuela), I have tons of negative thoughts on my mind. But I try to relax with music and pray to the universe to reach land soon.
The ocean, as you said before, can be very scary.
Pushing negative thought out with positive action is always something that has worked for me.
I try that. I write a lot and talk to my friends and family and that makes me happy.

He might probably think that I'm annoying because I'm always hugging him hahaha. But he's my friend, I brought him from my grandmother's house when he was only a month old. It was a three hour trip in a car and he was uncomfortable in the box, so he just went out and looked at the landscapes through the window.

I can relate, even though I have the sea close. So many beaches around, but I'm not so fond of them.
I am not sure if having my dog on the island would be a good idea.I would be worried if she is not in some kind of danger. Also with a lot of open space and various different smells she would probably be lost most of the time.
Clearly, I can see why you wouldn't want to take your dog and if I had one I wouldn't take him either. Although cats are more independent, or so they say hahaha.

If I had any cuts or bruises from the shipwreck, I'd want her comforting me with aloe salves and the like to make me feel better. I've met many local Hivers actually, we have a meet up monthly here, or did prior to covid. Some 13-23 in attendance each time. It was good. We've had BBQ's and stuff too. It's good to meet people in person, chat properly, share ideas. So, I'm not surprised you're hoping to manifest a meet up yourself!
Oh that's fun! It would take about a full day of flying for me to sit down for a cup with River, and maybe slightly less for Fiona. Traci lives quite close to an old client and friend I was hoping to visit again soon, so I'm determined to get at least one out of the three sooner than later! 😜

That sounds like a lot of fun to organize! I think one of these days we will be able to organize a #newengland meetup since it's only about 12 hours to travel from top to bottom, 8 hours if you don't count the northeastern sticks of Maine. Not too bad for some of the folks!
Meet ups can be good, I think one just needs to understand that online and offline persona's can differ so lowering ones expectations of others is best. Brings better results. Getting a whole pile of people in a room who are afraid of putting the smallest amount of personality into a blog online can be a bit odd. I think rewarding though.
People are just people and if there's some hive and take, some understanding, meet ups like this can work well.

First of all I would bring my best friend Luismary, she always has ideas to have a great day anywhere.
I would also ask them to bring my mom @eimy7, she always knows how to solve everything, she manages and directs like a great manager.
Finally, I would like you to bring my friend Jose, funny and always makes me laugh. Makes everything simpler.

It's a for fun topic, but in a real world situation, a shipwreck the people that happen to be there on the island with you would make a difference. I mean the mix of people could make or break the survival-factor for one, and if people were not the types to get a long, to bend around the others and make it all work...Human nature can be a fickle thing after all.
So, if one has the choice it can be engineered to some degree...But if one is on there with random people not of one's choosing? There could be problems.

yeah if he could not finish winds of winter now when the world is closed he is not finishing it at all. During my last years in school and studies I tried writing a few books. Among them continuation of Lord of the rings and my own fantasy. But I saw that I will most likely never finish them. Every time I thought that I am getting closer to the ending it escaped. To another page...to another notebook... So at some point I just stopped. Maybe that was a good decision because when I was posting it here people were not really interested. Also I find visual art to be a bit easier- at some point I run out of space and have to admit to myself that the piece is done.
I find writing relaxing and enjoy it a lot. I actually wrote a book in the year 2000/2001, over 440,000 words, and had it hard-bound then gave it to Faith as a birthday/anniversary gift. She loved it and treasured it. It was just enjoyment and I have no intention of attempting to get it published. I find a lot of reward from writing and I know few people actually read what I write here but the enjoyment for me is in the act of writing not so much knowing people read it or not.
I'm still gonna try to get to it this week but in case I don't, I do have my three picks.
