Introduction

I started compiling these lists in December 2020 to continue something @pennsif used to do as I think it helps bring the community together. Since then I have found lots more people to include. @HiveSQL has been really useful for this and I use Python for my scripts. Some of the post is manual as I like to include some commentary and I will keep tweaking it. I am open to suggestions for improvements. I aim to do a fresh list on the first Saturday of each month.

I also rely on the community to let me know of more people to include who may not have obvious account metadata. You can find me in the @teamuksupport Discord to discuss it or drop me a comment.

The #teamuk tag has been used to show you are in the UK and was earning extra votes from a bot, but that has not been active lately. Using the tag may still help me to find you, but please contact me if you think you should be on the list.

The list will include anyone living in the UK as well as Brits who have moved abroad. Inclusion on this list does not mean I recommend people, but I will remove accounts if they are known to be abusing Hive or are falsely reporting their location. I can also remove anyone who asks me to. If you have lost control of your account through phishing or other means then let me know so that I can update your entry. There is the option to be counted without being tagged on these posts if you want that.

The code to produce this post is on Github. People are welcome to use it for their own regional version. I can help you with that if necessary.

Previous editions

What it means

The numbers above are for those who had posted or commented in the previous month. In the lists below I break each region into three lists:

Active as above.
Just voting. I will guess that a lot of these use automatic votes, e.g. HiveVote. Previously there were some that appear to have been compromised as they vote for known abusers. Those are now excluded until I hear that they have recovered control.
Inactive in the last month, but most have done something since Hive started. We can hope to bring them back.

I want to count people rather than accounts as some have several. I can include those in brackets if you want. Let me know if you want me to update your listing. You can be as specific as you like about your location. Otherwise I will use what is on your profile or what I am told or can deduce from your posts.

Other Countries

I have produced similar lists for the following countries. Active numbers are from the last time I ran them. These have used simpler queries than what I use for the UK, so they are likely to miss people. What it needs is for local communities to take up this work. The data and scripts are all on my Github for anyone to make use of. I can do other lists on demand.

Commentary

Despite the low $HIVE price the number of people posting or commenting stayed the same this time. I did notice that a few people have moved up to a higher level so I expect that they are just powering up given that it may not be worth cashing out.

What we always need is new people. I am sure many are fed up with how the corporate platforms are going. They try to force ads on you whilst promoting content that you may not be interested in. Hive is more organic and you have choices in how you access it. We have lots of different front ends. SlothBuzz and Liketu are created by Brits.

I included an extra statistic of the total of those posting and voting. A lot of the accounts that just vote will be automated, so I am reluctant to count them as really active. I would also be happy to see some of them at least commenting now and then. There are plenty of cool people to follow. I feature those from all over the world in my #FollowFriday posts.

I added the ten year column on the age chart a while ago, but nobody has reached it as of today. I should hit that milestone tomorrow and will do a big post then.

I am not aware of any confirmed meetups, but I know some people are looking to run them. Having organised some myself I know that it can be fairly simple. You just need a time and a place where people can get together to talk. If you want to hire a venue to do presentations then it gets more complex, but given the number of active people we should just do what we can. If you do want to run an event then please let me know and I will promote it.

Looks like the buzz is falling off in Scotland, we need to do something to bring back those Scots! No Scotland, No party!

@tengolotodo, can we create an app where we change Hive to Tennents or something? Earn Hive for drinking Beer? Surely we can get a pub/club to sign up for that, and we get HBD funding to buy in the beers?

Oh, @steevc #Slothbuzz has levelled up too! No longer are we reliant on the Hive-engine outpost Sloth.Buzz (Although it's still live, so we can check Slothbuzz earnings more easily). We have a new website, which much better highlights the delights of Hive in full! Slothbuzz.com. I think this much better shows British brilliance! Although it was created mainly by a Swiss guy, it's the Scottish sloths' idea!
