I found myself unexpectedly in Newport, Rhode Island yesterday, having a spur-of-the-moment lunch with three friends of mine. So, the rest of the afternoon was spent meandering the seaside beauty of Aquidneck Island, where it is located, its yacht-filled harbor legendary. America’s Cup, the renowned annual sailing regatta has been hosted here in Newport. Sailing is a way of life.
Let's walk down these docks for a minute or two and go to town, to shop, to eat... to explore this beautiful little place called Newport.
Bowen's Wharf is a great way to see Newport, with the Marina right at the doorstep, you can hire a yacht or grab a lobster roll at one of the many restaurants located there. The shopping is plentiful. Indeed.

Sleeping arrangements
Shopping
All under one roof. Just like the Inns of 'Yore
If you want to catch the local action, pull up a chair on the dock on Bowen's Wharf. I personally like to go to the Coffee Grinder. I am pretty sure that @coff33a would approve of this place! The beans are brewing right now and hello! The aroma is downright alluring to the senses.
If you feel the urge, you can charter one
I personally spent a little time checking out the different boats and found a couple that would fit me nicely. Okay, seriously, I would love any one of them!
I walked up and down the docks and caressed this beauty. Oh, I was in love, all over again. And the sails! The most magnificent sails!
And this one! What a unique history it has! It raced in the America's Cup.

Oh my, you want a big one! Well it all depends what you want to do with it. A smaller one is good for a quick in and out. A larger one is more work, but doesnt feel as big when your used to it for a while. To me big or small doesnt matter, the point is you are out doing it and having fun...I LOVE boats of all sizes! :)

What I really appreciate your posts is ... diversity. Change the subject every time, and I think this is also a good example to follow. For who can! Newport, as you put it, is a very nice place to sit or visit as often as you can. Discover another face of yours, the navigator! Congratulations, most women are more brave than men ... I must admit that I would not feel comfortable if I do not feel the ground under my feet.

Of course! I do remember how much you love water! I had the best childhood, honestly, my father had a boat that all 11 of us could fit in nicely and we spent countless time out there on the Atlantic. It actually had beds for 8, so we frequently stayed out for days. We thought everyone lived this way, being part of the water and eating seafood 5 out of 7 days. We ate our catch. :)

And your post is showing me a lovely spot I have actually been! I had a trip there for a conference when I was a contractor for the Navy and remember it to be just that beautiful. I did not go out on the water though. I just ate seafood!
My mom was raised in Rhode Island so I have spent a fair amount of time there, but, funny enough, most people forget it is even there. The Navy has their Air/War College there also, that big beautiful building on a little piece of land. It is gorgeous! I had no idea you were a Navy contractor. Is that who you are working for now?

I wish I was! I worked at Port Ops in SD as a financial analyst for about 5 years. They civilianized my position in 2008 and I was laid off. After that, I lost the weight and went off on this poorly paying social media and book-writing jaunt.
You will love it here if you visit or come to stay. Bangkok is a wonderful place. I have had 3 trips to Malaysia so far and I and I am so hopeful for this to work out.

What a charming place Denise. I have heard of Rhode island but didn't realize it was so beautiful. I'd be visiting that Lobster bar for sure but if lobsters are priced like they are here in Australia, I'd be walking away hungry. I am just looking at the front of this cabinet and I love how they weathered it and painted on top of it. Well, it looks like it was just that way, it is such an art to be able to accomplish that and make it looks so authentic. It was my pleasure to share this very interesting and absorbing Antique and Collectable shop in Market Friday @dswigle I was in town for a festival and had no intention of wasting time window shopping. BUT...….for this place, I made an exception when I walked past.
Yes, it did take up valuable festival time but it was well worth it and I know I will make a bee line for it when we are in Coolangatta again. I love the weathered look too. My clever daughter in law uses this look for her 'Beach House' and she and my son have worked on many pieces of furniture to complete that theme throughout their house and it looks so cool.

It's so enchanting...under the blue sky and the deep blue sea...the adrenalin rush...that roaring sound of water ( in the amazing video) and the time spent, truly worthwhile, in the company of lovely friends or just alone, on a super jumbo yacht...worth remembering every single micro-second spent.!!!
