Use your Steem Power, or lose it... so why you being so cheap authors?

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

I find it funny that a lot of my followers or passerby's mention from time to time how generous I am when it comes to up-voting their comments, unlike other authors, which I just find absurd, and here's why:

You get a recharge on your Steem Power everyday, or for as long as you don't use it, so for me, usually by the next morning, I'm back to full power again, so I use it on all the people who support me.

So if you're an author, and you're not spreading the love around via your Steem Power each and everyday, you're essentially throwing it all away at the close of business, as if it's some kind of dirty old food nobody wants.

Why not use it, because you can't save it to have an even more powerful up-vote for your own posts, so it can't be a greed or selfishness thing can it?

I'm just saying, we're here on Steemit to create and appreciate, and one shouldn't go without the other.

Now, I do understand the fact that there is a ton of spam on here, especially from the third world countrymen, but you can usually see right through those comments as I do.

I just ignore them, but if you have good followers, who appreciate and comment on your work on a daily basis, show them some love with a 100% up-vote if they deserve it... because why not?

Your Steem Power is made to be used, so start using it... ya damn dirty cheapskates!

Sort:

I totally agree with you. It just seems the really big account holders are the stingiest with their votes. May be some kind of lack mentality ;)

Hey there Lucy, and to your point, I just don't know why.

Like I said in my post, it's made to be used, and it regenerates daily, so why not make people happy with it. The happier the folks on Steemit are, the more they'll spread the word about it, and the more they'll support it.

Hell, on a lot of big whale posts I see, a bunch of them don't even reply to comments, let alone up-vote them... which is really sad actually. 😦

I think the whales think that they are not going to get much by upvoting the smaller fish so they save their votes for other whales who can give them those massive votes. I don't post that often but when I do I make sure to upvote all comments at full power as a token of appreciation :)

Wow, they must be on Steemit all day for that shit... I have like 3 jobs, so all my Steem Power has to be used up in the morning, and I love to use it all on my followers... fuck the big whales!

Ha ha ha :D Me too! I have to work so I can't spend all day on Steemit. I decide a time and upvote like a machine :)

It's the only way to fly! 😉

Ha, nice to hear somebody else also has +1 job. I don't manage anymore, i delegated all my sp a few days ago, doing 1 comment a day, you're "the victim" today :-)

Now i wonder how you manage, guess you don't have wife and children :-)

One more rant, i have upvoted you quite a bit in the last month with +5K SP, i find it strange you would not follow your donator especially when he posts max 1x/month, i would unfollow you for that reason, just a bit curious on that one...

I don't follow people based on who up-votes me mate, I follow people based on the type if content they create... so don't take offense.

Ok, i see you follow only 15 people, you are a f ego tripper mate, no offense :-)

Haha, i like that reply but then i guess you never looked :-)

Yes! We need more people like you. I am afraid that STEEMIT is going to degenerate into a soup of nonsense - curation and recognition will save it.

Steemit to me, feels like a 1 way communication tool sometimes, which really really sucks!

If you dare to question someones post you risk being downvoted. I regulalry comment on unethical or dangerous posts and it costs me.

It is more rewarding to like and share anthying regardless of the ethical content. This is wrong and dangerous.

This is a major problem on Steemit, which causes a lot of people to have 2 accounts... 1 for happy-go-lucky, and the other... the truth sayer!

I didn't think of that..
Maybe I should own a truth sayer

Well, let's face it, we can't risk our main accounts can we... hence the "Truth Sayer" account! 😉

Haha that so happened to me.
I got downvoted for a sarcastic comment and when I demanded a reason got downvoted again.
Power abuse at it's best.

I always upvote my comments on my posts, but not at full charge. I try to keep my Steem Power by 85% +.

I'm not implying they have to be full power my friend, but what I try to do everyday, is use it all to the point, where the next morning, it will be fully recharged again for my daily morning post... it's a science.

How do you adjust the steem power for upvotes?

You get a slider when you upvote that you can use to decide what percentage you want to upvote at :)

You have to have a certain amount of Steem Power first mate.

I guess I'm not there yet.

...someday when I grw up

We all start at the bottom mate, and if we work hard it... we rise to the top!

It seems to me that a lot of the big players have a big circle-jerk going on, I think they save their big upvotes for each other and then if you’re lucky cast a low powered vote to a minnow to show how virtuous they are.

It’s basically like for them if they curate something random, they get 25% return, but if they curate something in return for an equivalent upvote they get 75%.

Pathetic, and it shouldn't be an excuse, because you could make like 10 very solid 100% up-votes per day, so they shouldn't wait for that one big dick to jerk, they should be spreading the love... but oh well.

“so they shouldn't wait for that one big dick to jerk”

Same in life.
I just thought about a mortgage lender client that has lost business, even though he was made the official lender of a large development by the developer. The sales people don’t want to give him any more business because he’s a dick to them.

Sounds fair to me, which is why people should really work on their attitudes, especially in situations where negative ones aren't warranted.

So what you are saying is we should all jerk many smaller dicks as opposed to one big dick. I think this is a message for all! Resteem!!

Ha ha, not exactly, I say up-vote whoever you believe deserves it, not matter their dick size. 😉

You motive is worth appreciating, you use all of your steem power, who does it, I don't think there will be enough people on this platform who do so, and you are one of them, keep doing such work, also you don't flag spammers, you let them go, you really have a golden heart, my words cant describe yourself, I dont get what did you meant by third world people, whome are you referring here?

I don't flag them, because it takes away Steem Power that I could be giving to someone who actually posts something beneficial.

I always though it is a common courtesy response to upvote those that comment on one’s post. Unfortunately I noticed that even on the posts where I have comments, there are no upvotes. Also, the bigger the players the less they seem to upvote.

the bigger the players the less they seem to upvote.

This will never make any sense to me... what the fuck are they going to do with there Steem Power if not use it... what a waste!

I didn't knew it, you are really doing a nice work mate.

Seriously it's absolutely true. I don't know what do they want to do with their steem power ,maybe shove it up their asses and save for later. Anyways it's so generous of you to help those people who are having difficulties making a mark here on steemit. I really appreciate your generous behavior. Thank you. Blessings

I don't know what do they want to do with their steem power ,maybe shove it up their asses and save for later.

That totally deserved a full power vote my friend!

Thanks mate. Cheers

Totally true..
Even the top players here who have a LOT of SP don't want to upvote anything other than their own posts and comments.
That just sucks. How can steemit grow if you are not upvoting new users. You can see that all over the trending page, where thousands are dollars are earned by the authors and not a single upvote to the curators.
It sets a bad example.

I'm not sure what they do with it all, and it's just counterproductive not to use it for the betterment of Steemit.

If they think long term, they would benefit more. That way more people will join steemit and it will be better for us all.

Oh this is the post i have been waiting .
you speak my mind , i have been frustrated with this selfish thing that the whales have got going on here

Humans suck, give them heaven and they will turn it into hell.
There fraudesters use bots to go up in the trending zone and have made the trending page shit.At least there are some who even though dont have reputation but are worth following and have the guts to stand up against nonsense @berniesander #hatsOff

Hang in there bud, it will get better a the community grows... it's the way of things.

I wish every whale or dolphin thinks like you do. Generosity is lost these days, or may be hiding from me. Lol

No worries my friend, because we could be the change we want to see.

I don't mind authors not upvoting all the time. however, I have a rant.

I recently commented on somebody else's post and I got a 0,05 upvote. I was quite happy with that until I saw him replying to me with 'thank you for the feedback!' and upvoted himself with, 60$

I will never ever upvote my own reply to somebody else's comment for more than I voted for his. I realize I don't have a lot of SP but that really pissed me off.

it's also a sure way to make sure I will never follow or interact with you.

Ha ha, as you know, I always up-vote my posts and comments, because what would be the point of buying Steem Power if I didn't, but I always give the commentator the same percentage as my reply, and theirs is always higher, since I vote theirs first... so that guy is just despicable!

yep, also one of the reasons i interact as much as i do with you and upvote your posts. you do share to the followers as well.

Like I said brother, I don't understand why the whales hoard their Steem Power, because it's not like they can save that shit... so why not fucking use it on their following?

exactly my point. fair enough i can see why you would not upvote with 10$ to each comment for a whale. but then do multiple at 0,20 or so it's still enough to keep your community engaged.

Wow never seen anyone think like you since I joined steemit. Honestly I wonder same thing mist times but sometimes I feel there are some other reasons I no nothing about why people would choose not to upvote anyone but themselves . I don't have much steem power and even the little I have was delegated to me by @tarazkp. To be sincere I have been using mine on myself more than I use on others coz it isn't much and all I do is use it to make my comments in most posts visible as most of the times comments are being buried especially when you come late to the party and for the author to see your comment , you have to list it to the top. Heaven knows that if I have so much steem power I would use only a little percentage to boost my comment and 100% would go to other people like you do.

I really love the way you think and reason ...I wish we could have more people like you around here who could be more generous than greedy.

More people like me will come, so hang in there mate, and always do the best you can!

I've never even considered my use of steempower/upvoting. I check out Steemit a couple of times a day, and upvote the stuff I like, comments I agree with etc. and hope others do the same.

Yeah, using it was the point, which you are, and I appreciate that, and so does the Steemit community as a whole.

Yeah the misconception that prevails here at steemit is that the upvote we provide comes mostly from there own savings. But its not true. All the authors should read this blog and then they also will for sure spread love...

Yep, it gets recharged everyday, so I have no idea why they're so stingy.

Many of them the big fishes know that atleast. But being stingy is the nature of men... Thats where humanity looses to ego.

It's very sad, but hopefully someday, less stingy men shall join Steemit.

Lets hope for the best to come

The whales and many others here already know all this.
The reason they're not upvoting is that they don't want to.
Human beings are very selfish creatures.

Yes, we are indeed, and a lot of them are in the business of 1 way communication, which I personally do not subscribe to.

I've been here for 6 weeks and this is the best discussion I've had. That just proves the point

There's always a beacon of hope in any place you roam... you just gotta look for it mate.

I agree there is hope and I've seen it. That's why I'm still here :)

Hey @tolkatore! Thanks for another great article. I totally agree with you and try to follow the same principle. Unfortunately, a lot of authors don't spend that much time interacting with their followers or even upvoting valuable comments. That's also why I felt like I owe you a "Thank you" for the great conversation we had on an older post of yours. I really appreciate the fact, that you get involved in the discussions and questions of your followers in the comments. Keep up the good work and thanks again!
Cheers - @sblue

The pleasure is all mine my good Sir, and how have your experiments here on Steemit been going?

So far so good, thanks for asking. Except for the fact, that I was too generous with upvotes and drained my power a bit. I need to recharge now :D. I really like Steemit and hope that all the things will fall into place for it to be successful in the long term. Also, I hope to find time to write another blog post myself, probably on the weekend.

It's definitely not easy, especially if you need to be accurate. It's easier for me, because almost all of my posts are just based on my own personal opinions.

I have just come to this post via @appone and it makes a good point. I'm not very Steemit-savvy but I do try and read, reply, upvote posts and always reply to (valid) comments on mine. TBH I'm in it for the fun not the money/power but still, we all like to be rewarded for effort. Thank you for the added encouragement.

Oh yeah, @appone is a good dude, and I appreciate the support. Steemit ain't too hard to get a handle on, so I think you'll be just fine.

Use it when ever you can you get it from a reason

Amazing man ...@tolkatore ...you are such a kind person...especially the lines you have quoted.."So if you're an author, and you're not spreading the love around via your Steem Power each and everyday, you're essentially throwing it all away at the close of business, as if it's some kind of dirty old food nobody wants or something."...
Yeah thats actually true, spreading love and kindness through rewards here on steemit is a powerful factor of all the authors...thanks man

Add a profile image to your account mate,, you look like a certified spammer without one.

Haha...sure man..

I totally liked that part as well. Let’s re-steem this post everyone. It, should go viral here.

Yes ..you are right..@appone ....lets resteem this post so that it can reach to maximum users and authors too.

I re-steemed it.

Hey thanks brother, I appreciate it!

Resteem done.....i hope this will reach to maximum steemit users ....thankyou

That's the way to go man @tolkatore... Why not, if someone appreciate your work u should show something in return besides when you aren't getting any powers omitted... Like the way said, "we're here on Steemit to create and appreciate, and one shouldn't go without the other"..

@tolkatore
For a start there are the people who give relevant comments. Sure there are a lot of people say "nice post" or "good stuff", thnx for sharing etc etc.. Lot of here are just to get an upvote or a follow from content creator. But there are also dteemians who do read ur blog and give a good feedback,or at least try to. I think this ppl deserve an upvote.atleast that is way to reward reader who read the whole stuff.

Another thing is i believe the ppl who have been writing ass off for several months but do not get noticed they should. These steemians also deserve some help as otherwise they may loose faith in steemit.(this may b optional for large SP holder)
I totalky agree with you, in order yo get Steemit to a higher lvl you will have to use your voting power in a tactical way...

I think the folks who aren't getting attention need to just consider the fact that their posts will be indexed in Google, so it isn't all for naught.

With that being said, I've been saying since the beginning that Steemit is a pay-to-win platform, so in order to succeed, you need to buy some Steem Power to get noticed as an author.

Yup pay-to-win i totally agree with.. But what abt the steemins who r students or who cannot afford to buy Steems?
I think there must b a record on resp profile where it shows the contribution of perticular steemians to the platform
No doubt buying steem, writing blogs, rewarding comments is a part of contribution. But we need to think beyond this as Steemit is progressing speedy

It will only get better, but they need to make a bunch of fixed going forward.

Your worthy word in this post about steem power really appreciable for all steemians. If i use my steem power it will be good to increase followers. Thank you for your good suggestion.

I like your thinking.
Authors spreading the love have a greater bond with the fans.
I must say you are very generous, I know you might have heard it many times :)

Well, it doesn't hurt to hear it one more time I suppose.

What ever you said is totally true by all means...i dont understand it myself that why dont they try to share some love with the curators ....they act as if they havent been in the situation where we stand now....it is as simple as that....i think the whole thing they do is making them skyscrappers egoistic people.. It is obvious we will try to comment in that section where we know we will be appriciated ....it is really a problem that stands here ....here alone only small no. Of people appriciate the commenteniars ......

I think it may get better, as more and more people join Steemit.

That is true but the people who already have become whales being true to my heart they suck....
i have so much hatred for them..

Not all of them are bad, some just live in an a big tower, and cannot see us peons.

I really liked this post. That's why the thumb up. You are very right. Few people appreciate their followers.

Well maybe not now, or tomorrow... but someday they shall regret it.

i sometimes wonder what they do with all their voting power ,atleast one should upvote genuine comments
if not all still some of them

You are absolutely right @tolkatore

you have a pretty good sense of humour working for humanity is great work, keep up
