The Big Steem Drop, Was It Good For Your Growth Rate?

in #steem6 years ago

Easy_solologo.png

We did a test 39 days ago to see if the price of steem coming down was good Steem Coming Down Is Good (lets do an experiment to see) - Easy Experiment

In that post I asked for a snapshot of your steemd stats:

#1 Tell us how many SP you have right now

#2 Tell us how long you have been on the platform

Now we look at the results!

Please re-answer the 2 questions above!

Just getting back to this post.... New totals are:
144 SP on day 122
So that is 71 SP in 43 days which is around 1.65 SP a day. :)

That is very good... and your growth rate has definitely picked up! Good job @royaleagle!

you received an up vote from danlupi with voting power of 83.91%. Estimated dollar amount of $5.4

I have seen a big difference with the price of steem coming down, and then going back up... This account has really rocked with the move up... Yes we picked up some SP when it was lower, but we really picked up even more as it went higher! That's great as this is a membership service and it will help our members with leasing more steem power as we get bigger again!

You got a 33.33% upvote from @payforplay! Please consider delegating steem power to @payforplay. We are currently sharing 100% of our profits with our delegators. That's correct, 100%! It doesn't get better than that. It is essentially running your own bid bot without doing any of the work. Steem power can be delegated here: https://steembottracker.com/delegation.html

So I've been here 134 days and have 169 SP; before 95 days/97 SP.

Regardless of what the numbers say, and regardless of any extenuating circumstances like getting curied, I cannot believe it's only been 134 days...it feels like a lifetime...in a good way, not like in my first marriage way haha

And as an aside, I came to this post to find I'd already upvoted you, but I don't have you as a fan on steemauto so is it because of friendsofgondor? I've noticed it before but keep forgetting to ask. And if that's the case, I need to unvote and revote to give you the deserved voting percentage buddy :)

It wouldn't be friendsofgondor because that account only upvotes stewardsofgondor... My guess is it was helpie's trail or maybe qurator...

For your numbers they have grown:

from roughly 1 SP per day
to 72 SP in 39 days which is a rate of almost 2 per day... Your growth rate almost doubled.

And yes it does seem both long and short in time... sometimes it seems like I'm a newbie and other times I feel really old... The good thing is we are almost the same age so it doesn't matter to us! ;)

And yes it does seem both long and short in time... sometimes it seems like I'm a newbie and other times I feel really old... The good thing is we are almost the same age so it doesn't matter to us! ;)

haha it's exactly like real life ! Some days I feel like a newbie and others, really old :)

We are almost the same age, so it doesn't make any difference at all!

lol... yes in both steemit life and in real life, we are almost the same! Maybe that's why "great minds think alike".

I agree that it feels like it has been a lot longer. 6 months ago I didn't know what a Steemit was and know I'm almost to minnow level. It's crazy. Too bad it's not as simple as posting my account for sale to get $1,700. That would be really cool... although I wouldn't have the account anymore, so that would be a downside.

It is crazy. Four and a half months ago, I'd never heard of steemit and the idea of cryptocurrency was a grey area in my peripheral vision! There's something that says to 'become a habit', you have to do something for a month or six weeks I think, so when you 'do' something like steemit every day for 4-6 months, it really does become a part of you. Although I really do believe it's the relationships that keep us here. The guy who introduced Brian and I to steemit was really in it for the money (quick rich scheme...the big dummy;) and he hasn't been on for a few months now. Your $1,700 would be gone long before these relationships are ;) It also makes me wonder, if I started another account now, knowing what I know, would it be any different? could you duplicate this journey? I don't think so. Maybe I'd meet other people?

Just rambling now, but as I typed this, I really began to imagine re-doing it all. I won't. But I wondered what it would be like. I know that @simplymike did and funny enough, I found notes from when I first started on here, with names of people who I wanted to re-visit their posts regularly, and she was one of them, but it was her old name @mike-with-a-crazy-long-number after it. So it goes to show you that her authentic self came through with both names...even though I thought she was a guy for a long time haha

although I wouldn't have the account anymore, so that would be a downside.

...and you'd have to come up with another name ;)

I agree, it's the people that keep me here. I like the friendships I've made here, so it's fun to check in and see how people are doing. That's strange that the person who referred you was gone so quickly. I never even found out how you get referred. Yes, the money would be spent quickly. It seems that's the way of things, especially since I'm working on my silver collection. That would be 85 ounces of sweet silvery goodness before you could say, "boo!"

You could probably duplicate it to a certain extent. Especially if you knew where to start. I think part of the reason people see success is that they form friendships with people and then mutually upvote each other and see those votes grow. That's how it's supposed to work. I think if you could do well to have a cryptocurrency tied to a platform like this, but the only way to get the currency would be by being on the platform, at least for a few years. That way the people there are ones who really want to see it grow. I don't really like upvoting people who are taking the money and running. It feels better to upvote someone who is investing that value back into the platform and helping others grow. Then you could release it after 3 years and see what happened. The incipient demand might cause the price to skyrocket... provided there was enough usage of the coin and platform.

I would have to come up with another non-name if I started a new account. Ha!

As a big fan of experiments, I'm sad I missed this! Looking forward to the responses from the folks listed above and thanks to @davemccoy for running this!

Don't worry, I will be doing it again in about a week... Keep a lookout for it! ;)

Good copy! I'm likely to be traveling, but will look for it!

When did this happen? I'm so sorry I'm not part of the experiment.

It was 39 days ago @melvadg... But don't worry, we will be doing another one in a week... Keep your eyes open! ;)

I'm sure I'll be looking forward to the new round. Happy day.

I still have a little SP on this platform.
but I promise myself to keep making interesting posts to survive here.
I hope someday anyone can help solve my SP problem

what is your SP problem @munirahayati? I will be glad to help you if I can. Let me know what you mean by that statement and I will find you a solution ;)

I did not enter the first part of this contest.
My wallet stands right now at:
2 Steem (donation)
61.654 Steem power (-10 delegated to another)
and 16.852 SBD,
The past month has been my biggest organic growth since I have entered the Steemit platform, I have also reached a level where a reward from my vote is now over the 0.01 milestone, That in itself shows possibilities for growth, There have been many positive influences which have contributed to this growth, The key influence on this growth I would put down to communication, Talking with others in both the Discord groups and commenting on the platform to others posts. (A comment does not equal, "hi I like your post" "I agree with you"), Showing you have read the post and commenting on different parts of the post and showing a conclusion you have about the post, Will gain a more favourable reward. One other thing I have started to do, Which maybe many of us plankton should do, Is I do not vote on the comments in my posts any more, In an effort to reward those who do comment, I have now began to find a post they have done, and I will vote my penny on their post to ensure they gain something from the vote I return,

That is a very good idea at the end @jan23com... And I'm glad you put the numbers down and we will do another experiment in a week ;)... Also you have already figured out my point, that the last month when prices went down, we actually grew the fastest pace. So in reality, low price = faster growth. That's my premise! ;)

I am unsure as to the value of the coin being reflective of the growth in Steemit, I was more placing that growth with my expansion of interactions. Showing appreciation for the efforts of others, Some of my chat in the discord groups, to let my name be seen. There might be no wrong way or right way, But an adaption of various methods to suit the individual to grow. I remember saying to you when I had first met, that you are one who I will be following, Where I am now is the reasoning behind that thought way back then. I still find the posts you place up rewarding and inviting to new users, I will be continuing to follow you for more useful insights.

Thank you for those nice words @jan23com! And I agree with you the #1 determinant of growth will be what effort you put into it... The more effort = the more reward... I am talking about how the amount of steem you earn accumulates faster at a lower steem price. But you are completely right that in order to earn, you have to put in effort! And you are doing good, in my opinion.. I like to see your development!

I wasn't aware of this experiment either @davemccoy one of the many things that has slipped past my notice recently. Anyway, your analysis indicates that steem coming down generated more SP for you. You've realized in 39 days, almost twice the amount that you amassed in 94 days. I think that is simply fascinating!

That is exactly the point @ossyjay! The price drop had a very important multiplying effect as we have discussed before. I'm trying to teach people so that they understand, lower prices are good for the newbies and minnows. If you keep your eyes open, I will be doing this again in about a week. I think it helps to also set goals too! (something I know you are aware of!) ;)

I am forever hoping that steem stays down for the time being to enable me amass a significant amount of SP in order to increase my vote value. I will make sure that i do not miss out on the next one. Speaking of goals, I'll be dropping a post of the goalsetter progress report pretty soon. I'll do my best to make sure you are the first to see it.

awesome @ossyjay! I'm so glad you get it! :)

One day we will look back and see what a great opportunity we had and how it was cool we were able to be involved early!

Congratulations on your progress @davemccoy! Interesting experiment, thanks for sharing!
/FF

Thank you @friendly-fenix... I did the experiment because the premise that we grow at a faster rate with steem prices lower. My account is only one account of the group, but I do believe that the others will experience the same thing (if they were on about as much and stayed consistent)

Cool, I am guessing people did some STEEM shopping during the sale?
=)

Yes I know quite a few in fact.... They were smart... They picked up some decent prices too

I don’t think I grew much @davemccoy. A lot of my upvotes went to comments. I guess I wouldn’t mind finding out where I stand now...if someone would like to pull my stats for me again. 🤩😁

j/k - will pull my own this time. Told ya it didn’t grew much!

Then: 305 SP 72 Days
Now: 379 SP 111 Days

you have to factor out the SP you bought from the beginning... otherwise

you can't get a realistic view.

Yes but you’re only looking at growth from the 305 SP til today right? That’s a growth of 74 SP in 39 days. I didn’t buy any Steem in this time period.

Not very good growth. I should use my upvotes more on posts than comments.

omgosh... that is 74 SP in 39 days.... in order to compare it to your other months, you need to back out what you invested... just tell me how much of the 305 is bought and how much was organic, then I can show you how they compare.

and as far as curation, yes... you will never earn much if you are just voting comments... especially if you are voting 0.02 or less.

I wrote a post to NOT upvote 0.02 or less! 😝

I have to dig around for the numbers. Maybe I’ll get that to you..one day at the rate I’m taking to reply back. Plus you know I hate math.

you are right... only $0.03 or higher works to get them paid... Now if you would just tell us how much steem you bought then you will be a perfect example of someone whos growth rate took off. I already have an idea, but you need to divulge that info! And fyi, you will just subtract that to find out how much you organically grew in your first 72 days

You’re lucky the data was around. 279 STEEM invested, all bought prior to 3/19. So...

26 SP only in 72 days vs.
74 SP in 36 days

Yeah... I'd say 79 SP in 39 days is pretty good, seeing as I only have 82 SP, and I've been here over 100 days!! So.. Yeah lol

My point exactly @gjones15 and on top of that it grew a ton compared to her own rate of growth.

2 posts a week girl, Commit yourself to 2 posts a week at least, You can write them up over a couple of days in a notebook or other recording method, and assemble them over a shorter period of time when you find a spare hour,

If only I have spare time @jan23com! I’m lucky to write one post a week.

280SP & 17 🌛s

thanks for the updated number @amariespeaks... would you say in the last 39 days you spent the same amount of time on the platform (or more/less).. Also did you give away many of your sbd's or steem at an increasing rate that before?

@amariespeaks is always giving away her SBDs. She is too too sweet.

I know... that's why I asked... It kinda hurts her growth rate ;)

LOL yesss but I can't help it when I see a good cause :-D plus I haven't been posting as much as usual

@davemccoy I have definitely spent less time than usual on Steemit over the last month and I did give away steem and sbd.. I've lost count lol but maybe around 15sbd or more...? I think, but only like 2 steem. LOL so yes, I'm definitely behind on the growth and retaining curve ;-)

Yes we need to throw out your scores because you have been tied up and giving it away.... Once you settle in though, I would like to show you on the next dip how to get it higher!

I wouldn't say you are behind on growth though, that is just a function of being able to be here... Everyday you get a little bigger (whether here or not) because your friends keep growing... That's how it works! :)

lol yeah maybe another time I can be a better example 👌 I'm trying to get back on my daily posting habit.

This sounds like an interesting experiment. Let us know how the price of STEEM +/- impacts performance!

yes exactly @dominicbasulto! We will be starting up a new contest in about a week, so keep your eyes open and you can be a part of that one as well! :)

13.67 SP
and Im really wishing i had bought some at $2 - #procrastinator

haha... I understand... :)

ok you went from 15 SP 113 Days to 13.67 SP ... something must be a mistake. It shows you lost SP. The only way for that to happen is if you sold any or "powered down"... Did you do either of those?

actually it says 13.627 SP (+1.388 SP)
i have not sold or powered down that i now of! but i know very little!

You're doing good! And if you have any questions, feel free to ask... We will all help if we can! :)

Thanks! Im here for the long haul. Two questions now: 1) why is staying at 15 doing good? and 2) what is the best MOO for acquiring Steem now? The process with the least friction? And which Steem? there seems to be more than one currency.

  1. because you have whittled down the amount of SP you were loaned in the beginning to only 1.388... that means that you have earned the 13.627.... after the earn that other 1.388, then all the SP will be yours... The first time you told me, you didn't factor in the SP that was loaned to you. So I know it grew, I am not sure how much... but from now on I will.

The best way in my opinion is through comments on authors post... The more the better. Make them genuine and just be yourself and show your personality. Like this comment to me, it is a good comment because you are asking me for help and everyone always wants to help you here, plus I can tell you are trying too.

As for the difference between Steem and steem dollars and SP.... yes there are 3 different terms... The main way to look at it is this:

SP is steem (but invested in the system so it is locked up for 13 weeks)

so really there is just steem and steem dollars (SBD)... each trade separately. But both are worth money. You get both as an author. Usually more SBD that SP....

What most people do early is to convert their sbds to steem and then "power them up" to SP... it has the benefit of growing your account a bit faster. Later, you will use your SBDs to buy votes through the bots or join memberships services. Try to get to 30 SP and then let me know and I will go over the other options for you.

Thanks so much for taking the time here to explain it that way. I think I just got a lot closer to understanding! If you get the chance to answer (2) I am ready to buy into Steem as an investment and would just like to have the least amount of memberships and hops to make to do that!

:) Yes, so that's 15 SP total. The SP in parenthesis stands for SP "delegated" to you (which was done by steemit itself when you opened your account) .

thanks for the assist @gjones15 :)

No prob, Dave ;) I know you said @beeyou likes to give you a hard time, so... ;)))

haha... yes... she definitely does :P

I should have broken my down from what was still delegated. Still at 15 SP but I went from 2.xx undelegated to 4.9 so my undelegated. So I doubled and I am now at 136 days. So now at 136 days according to steemd 4.9/10.2 delegated (learning curve :D )

If I am understand you correctly, let me ask you this:

you have 15 sp before (but 10.2 was delegated to you)? That means you owned 4.8 SP outright

then you have 15 sp now (but only 4.9 is delgated to you)? That would mean you owned 10.1 SP outright

if this is the case, then you doubled in the last 39 days... Or put another way you earned the same amount in the last 39 days as it took you 97 days to do before. Which means your growth rate jumped a lot ;)

Let me know if I have it right.

Ack my post didn't post. But yes!!! you're right.

ok cool... so your rate of accumulation did pick up quite a bit! Cool :)

It did and I finally had a couple of posts that paid out more than .50 LOL I see progression so that's all I care about. I think your theory is correct though. Since prices have almost double since the first post this will be a good test to see it performs the way we're thinking it will.

yes, more than half the battle is with our minds... If we can understand what happens in each scenario, then it keeps us motivated. Good job on focusing on your progression @tryskele! :)

Considered I joined only 59 days ago:

From 0.1 SP to 8.619 SP
0.441 STEEM
0.083 SBD

I actually transferred out 3.251 STEEM out as well. So, I suppose I earned like 12-13 SP in the first 2 months here.

Nice so you grew nicely too in the last month! Thanks for sharing and we will do another one of these in about a week!

Not counting delegated SP:
469 SP 233 Days - REP: 56.069 - - - Last Month
526 SP 273 Days - REP: 56.549 - - - This Month

so up 57 in 40 days... or 1.425 per day ... Yours will be interesting to view over time... You were around in the really cheap days of steem, so monitoring the monthly flow based on the price of steem. It will be interesting to watch it because you are very steady!

I couldn't play, because I profited from the low Steem prices to buy me some extra Steem... :0)

lol... I know... you are a wizard in crytpo! ... very nice purchase! :)

You can someone who buys based on a gut feeling hardly call a wizard, @davemccoy

shsss don't tell anyone, being a wizard of anything requires a leap of faith! So take it while you got it ;)

I am now at 6.3SP and 189 days.
Yes, my SP almost doubled in 1/4 of the time.

very cool... that is awesome and I'm happy you could notice it! :)

62 SP....
137 days....😢

you were getting .388 SP per day.

In the last 39 days you picked up .453 SP per day

So your rate of growth is picking up! Don't be sad sweetcha! You are doing good!

thanks for the cheer Dave😊

434SP - 123 Days

306 in 84 = 3.64 sp per day

434 in 123 days = 3.53 sp per day

You slowed your rate of accumulation... 2 questions 1) did you buy any of your steem in your first 84 days? 2) did you slow down what you were doing relative the the first 84 days?

I did the math myself. I was surprised that there was that much accumulation per day.

  1. I haven't bought any Steem ever. This was all organic. I considered buying some when the price was lower, but I had gotten into silver and all my spare money has been going there.

  2. Yes, I have slowed down. I think it would be interesting to look at it again in another 39 days. I took a little over a week off, and then these last two weeks I've slowed down a lot from the crazy pace I was on. I think there's a better balance in my life, but I need to be more intentional about writing posts. I think that would help my overall growth.

I agree with you about the balance, in the long run it is better to be steady and enjoy it, rather than trying to force things and then burning out! Its very impressive what you've done though, great job Blondie :)

At the start of the experiment I did have:
56 SP was 92 days on the Blockchain.
Now, things have evolved a little bit.
The steem power increased to 141 and still have 11 steem at hand. So 152 would be a more accurate figure. 131 active on the Steem blockchain!
For me it was good to continue being active here. My SP almost tripled. And my followers base grew also exponentially.

You are doing fantastic and as you've stated, your rate of growth is awesome!!! Keep it up and great job :)

I was thinking about this and so what I had was
330 SP - 165 Days
552 SP - 204 Days

So I had 222 SP in 39 days which is not bad with most of it coming from post payouts and a few power ups when I liked the ratio between Steem and Steem Backed dollars

I powered up about 30 SBD which gave me about 36 Steem I think so 186 SP from posts is not bad. I also tracked my curation rewards which was at 0.250 - high of 0.800 a day but that was once so I average most days at 0.500. Not enough for me to get myself at the League 1 of Asher but helping me grow.

I could do better in terms of curation if I do front running bog votes and bid bots but that is not why I want SP. I want SP in order to spread my vote especially to those not earning much.

You did great Mav! Its good to see your growth is just over a month... It is almost a double over that time which is awesome! I know you will continue to grow as well and I have no doubt that you will always be helping people! You're just that kind of guy, its in your nature!

I am at 411 now plus I rented 795 SP on a 90 day delegation when it was super low for $150 of fiat. I have already doubled that investment plus some so I was pretty happy with the dip. I wish i would have rented more or just bought more period. My account is 101 days old now so I gained 166 SP in 39 days. So 4.25 SP per day gain. Not good enough. I think I need to do 10 Sp a day. Gotta sit down and figure that one out.

Its really good and a great rate of growth... I think you are tops in fact (with well over a double)... And I like that you aren't satisfied, that is an awesome trait to have! I have no doubt you will be banging on 1000 by the next time our next test is finished!

Just trying to make this thing work. Started the old curation trail and that is bringing in between 5 to 9 steem power a week pretty reliably. Messing with Dmania just a little bit. About ready to sit down and write up my comedy open mic thing. I have decided I will need to turn off the steem auto upvote for that one because it is going to be all out. :)
lol
The anything goes channel in the comedy open mic discord room is pretty raunchy and I don't think it fair to put anyones auto vote on what that is going to be. If that one flies out good I might even make a mock video for the next round after that one and try to put it on Dtube.

I have been around for less then 100 days and wasn't involved in your first post but it's interesting to see the growth of others so I can compare to how I am doing.
.
.
I currently only have 10.6 steem power of my own and 4.4 borrowed. I never purchased any ( as you can tell by my low amount ). My first couple months I stumbled around making newbie mistakes but have since found my footing and expect a much larger growth margin in my next 100 days. I look forward to coming back to this topic once weeks .. months pass.

exactly why I am doing this @rentmoney! By having markers so we can measure our progress it will give us a chance to self-motivate ourselves! Good job and thanks for posting your numbers ;)

Here is my stats:

-SPDays
Current162102
Previous7562
Difference8740

Growth rate: 2.175SP/Day (Increased significantly)

That is perfect analysis @reazuliqbal! Exactly what I thought we would see with the drop in steem price. That's why I am pointing this out so that people can be cheerful if the price dips... Its not so bad if you ask me ;)

I love low STEEM price and bit higher SBD price so that I can purchase more STEEM and power up. I am going to purchase STEEM when current price level gets a bit lower. I am planning on creating, supporting, and curating Bangladeshi community here on Steem.

I'm now 103.30 SP 113 days. Previously 18.6 SP 73 Days.

Can't believe it's only been around 40days. I'm now full of hope, thank you for this "time capsule". If I'm not mistaken, back then I was trying to find a way to double my SP in 30 days. Which seemed like an "impossible" task. Now I have a target of 500 SP, which also seems like an impossible task right now. Can't wait for the next 30 days. :D

awesome job @liberviarum... That is an incredible growth rate... I know the price will fluctuate and slow down/speed up the amount of SP we accumulate, but the point of the experiment is to show people that we actually benefit when the price drops! Again, terrific job and I like your goal of getting to 500sp! Keep it up :)
