Blooming cactus - Turbinicarpus Viereckii + 3 year anniversary!

in Succulent growers4 years ago

A few days ago I mentioned that I think this one is preparing to bloom. There was something that started to look like a flower bud, but was hidden in the fluff in the center. Exactly 7 days has passed and I got not one, but two flowers!

Turbinicarpus Viereckii

This tiny cactus is native to Mexico to a nearly desertous areas. It will grow between rocks and cracks with very low nutrients level. It is used to and likes plenty of sun and not too much water.
It will stay small and most likely as a single stem plant. I am wondering if the flowers will self pollinate to produce seeds. There should be an easy way to reproduce since they will most likely not grow any offshoots.

My plant is about 3 years old now and it is the first time it blooms for me. The flowers are small, bright pink and remind me of the standard Mammillaria blooms.
But don't you be tempted touching them! They are well protected by the very long black spines.
I thought the flowers will not be able to open though the spines, but nop... all worked well :)

Flowers with their private protection.
The cactus itself is very cute too with the pale green colour and white spines that are almost flat. Only the center one is pointy and sharp.

Looks like this little fell knew exactly when to bloom.
As I was going though my notifications today I saw a comment about by Steem Hive anniversary!

Yep... I joined 3 whole years ago! And I could probably count just a few days that I was not active here. I met lots of amazing pepople, made few good friends (probably some enemies too) and got to know people with amazing knowlege!
It is a very peculiar place with a lot to change still and iprove. But it has been very interesting 3 years!

Now lets all drink for another year full of dramas, action, new friends, moons and lambos!

Congratulations!
You waited :-)))
Beautiful cactus and its flowering.
His flowers are not self-pollinating, you need at least 1 more of the same.

Yes I did! I was checking every day and then they opened :D

Oh pity.. I have only one of those.

Szczęśliwej rocznicy! Hope to have you around for as many years as possible.

Thank you! :)
I am not going anywhere :D

what a cute cactus...Espcially when they bloom they look cuter than ones without blooms...Anyway great pictures. However it is really hard thing to grow plants and flowers...

Have a nice day...

Indeed!! I had a cactus like that once, it died about two weeks. Apparently, I watered it down too much.

The easiest way to kill a cactus is through over watering :) They hate it!
Other than that they are quite easy plants.

Lesson learned :D I am thinking to buy one too, still looking for a vendor that sells it online in Indonesia.

Sometimes you can find nice and easy to grow ones in supermarkets :)
They are cute too.

Thanks :)
Cacti are actually quite simple plants. They like sun, rocks and little water. Thats all :)

Absolutely beautiful ... 😄

Thank you :)

Wow! I'm really amazed. We must never lose hope because cacti are always unpredictable and this is also why I love them. Thanks for sharing with us this beautiful success! :) have a nice day, greetings

PS: Happy anniversary! Another good thing to celebrate to

Thank you! I still have so many that never bloomed for me. It is always so exciting to see the first flowers.

Oh yea :D

Those are beautiful photographs, specially Picture 3 ❤
I had never seen a cactus thorns which are so long that they r covering the flower. A special protection 😁

And Congrats on completing 3 beautiful years. Keep going 😊

This is still nothing! Some are so big that they flower cannot fully open :)

Thanks! I am planning to :)
