How many people like to shop for food? I have to be honest. I like to stop at produce stands, selecting the yummy goodness of the fresh from the farm food, but seems like I am always making the fifty-yard dash through the grocery stores. Just to be done with it. Can I be the only one that feels this way?
Growing my own would solve it all, but, time doesn't allow such a large plot needed to cover all my needs.
Oh, the world of cheese! I spied one from the Nederlands and thought of my friend @dutchess! It has been so long since she has been here on the platform. When she decided to come back, she couldn't find the way back in. Hang on to those passwords, people. I can honestly say that when I first joined, I didn't think it was as important as it turned out to be.
Close your eyes, vegans. They have got some of that here. There was really no way to avoid it.
May I suggest that we close our eyes and run through this section!?? Hold hands now and let's make a dash for it! One, two, three... go!
I am nearing my way to the end of the line. I can almost see the checkout from here. Grocery stores this big are not the way I usually like to get my shopping done. The farmers market isn't open until today, so that is a no thank you for this week. In a short while, it will be open daily and my guy will save me all of his tomatoes that he cannot sell because they aren't perfect. I get them for a fraction of the price and make other things with them, things where they do not have to be perfect. Well, this does have a huge organic section, so all is well in the world. You just cant beat a Honeycrisp! For baking I find Galas do nice.
I rather enjoy shopping because then I can get what I want. I know that sound funny, but really it is quite a privilege!
Oh I would love to grow all my own and do the homestead life, up to a point though. I do like my appliances and internet. It is all a question of balance. Its quite a lifestyle commitment to go whole hog, pun intended!

Oh, no!! You just cannot beat a good Honeycrisp!! They are the cat's meow! Or a dog's bow-wow... you pick. I have never really loved shopping. Getting what I want? Hey! That is what God made lists for, no? It is a privilege to get what I want, but, I have found that my needs are few. I love everything, but, I also don't mind eating different salads or soups every night. I could live on soup.
You already know there are several go-to things in my refrigerator every week. It makes it all easier. And as much as I like homestead life, I want only certain aspects of it. Homesteaders do have internet, BTW. How do you think they all blog??

Yes I mean I do like being on the grid I suppose, however I am truly fascinated by wind and solar. Isnt life all about finding that balance. The longer I live, the more I believe it is so. Of course they use both on many sailboats now. So yes I agree with wanting the certain aspects of it.

I can't even remember the last time I went to a big supermarket. Nowadays I'm only buying groceries in the tiny markets from my own village. I'm done giving my money to big multinational companies, if I have alternatives!

"It's market day, time for me to ketchup." Couldn't resist, plus, I'm SO far behind on here. Be lapping myself soon. I always greatly enjoy your shopping day extravaganzas. This one was spectacular. I actually don't mind grocery shopping, because I go to a local discount place, you never know what you'll find, it's really cheap (like me, or thrifty, like OGP), and they play the GREATEST music. Older dance-to-it-good tunes. So moving around the aisleways is always a breeze. I just twirl. Much to other folks shopping chagrin.
Your store does have an amazing array of fruits and vegetables. That is amazing. And as you say, better for you. How does that saying go? Stay to the outside rim of the grocery store. That's where the good stuff is. Though a detour to cookies is always a good thing too ( :

As for the joke, my first thought was, Sylvester the Cat, with a new, more religious name. Oh well.

Oh yes! It's market time and I think I am all caught up! Finally! I lapped myself twice already so I may pass you any day now. I am finally getting to the caught up stage because I had to leave behind me when I hadn't gotten and was angsting about. I was gone for a few days and was working extra work and I just got so far behind that I had to leave the ones that were 6 days old and I hadn't answered yet and move on. I'm always trying to keep up with the current ones in work on the back ones. I finally decided that I was rolling myself up into a ball for nothing and I needed to move forward and beg for forgiveness from everybody. There weren't too many that I missed but enough. Even one comment not be answered doesn't feel good.
I I'm not with you on that grocery shopping thing. I hate to say it but I would rather be out running or walking in the park or taking pictures instead of buying food. I can tell you that if I buy food everybody is going through eyeball me at home until I prepare something out of this set food. If I don't have any oh, do you think I could get away with not cooking? Oh yes! Just twirl me right down that aisle. My girls used to pirouette down it and I let my son do it with the girls when he was little. I sure wish I had video of that so I could show it to his friends now.
I agree with you stay to the outside of the store on the rim. But what fun would that be? There's no cookies there! Yes yes! A detour to the cookies is good thing. Or the ingredients to make my own.
I want to thank you for coming along as I apologize for being so late last few comments. If it makes you feel any better I'm caught up on the others. You are always a Hoot and Holler to take a long. It's been a great time and thanks for coming!

Thank you for leaving the link on my post - that really helps! As for needing a lot of space to grow your own: you don't really. I must see if I can find photos of our old vegetable patch and share that. We had great tomatoes, herbs and leafy vegetables. Couldn't grow much in winter - not enough sun.

I know I don't need much land, but, the land I have is the worst with the clay soil and it suffocates some of the plants before they mature, especially when there is a flash flood, although truth be told, the little bit of rain is just as bad.
Winter is that dormant stage that Mother Nature needs to regenerate anyway, so thank goodness.

We have clay soil, too. Seven years of working it, later, with compost and generally not giving up, it's getting easier. Not that the drought helped much. As for winter: because by comparison, our winters are mild, we grow quite a bit - peas, broad beans, carrots, garlic are all in/up and others in the planning.

It is a military commissary and most are pretty big in this area, but, that is because there are a plethora of people in the area. They have an abundance of always great looking veggies and fruit, along with the 30% or more savings on other products.

I never was a fan of grocery stores either. They are just so cold hearted feeling. Too much market research spent into where something should be placed and how it should look to maximize profits. I’m never quite sure what is on display the products on the shelves or my wallet as I walk it down their carefully orchestrated paths trying lure me in.

They use a lot of psychobabble to suck us into the fray. I have a list and I stick to it. I really do, just to avoid unnecessary purchases. Such a bad habit I used to have... I would buy it , in case... In case of what?? Anywho, yes... it is so carefully orchestrated, we never even notice some days.

They bring your bags to the car for you...love that and a whole aisle just for peanut butter...this is my kind of place. All the beautiful vegetable photos reminded me of one of the first posts I read of yours where you took an exceptional photo of your stocked refrigerator. I thought who is this lady...there is something exceptional about her and I hit "follow" and have not been disappointed.

They do bring the bags to the car for you. No matter what age or gender. Just part of the deal. Military commissaries are the best, in so many ways. I like the one in the Springs too. It was one of my favorites. I am so sad to see so many powering down, but, yet, here I am sitting, not wanting to move a bit of it, hoping that it will be saved and keep on going.
I feel the same and love to come over and listen to the sound of the drums. Are you going to be taking it up again???

I like the Commissary for it is convenient and it is a one-stop kind of shopping. But, I still like the farmer's markets better. Fresher, right off the vine and you are helping a family, raisetheir kids. Or their families. Yes, there are small problems, but I am surprised that there are not many, Steemit works well.
I also prefer to buy from farmers and stay as far away as possible to robots (probably the future of the world that fortunately, I will not know).

I love to grocery shop as long as I'm not in a hurry.
I usually have a list of things I need, but I love browsing through the isles, looking for new items and old items I haven't thought about in a long time.
Sometimes I'm doing it on the way home from work and I have sat all day, so the slow browsing gives me a chance to walk around for a while.
I think I have a market friday coming. I'll come back and drop a link if it gets finished.
I'm almost never in a hurry. Well, not true. I try not to be in a hurry. If you do, you will get punished 9 times out of 10. There will be a busload in front of you or a slow clerk or whatever... So, I just mosey and don't worry.
I used to do every shelf check kind of shopping, but, the stores are too big now! OMG! I might be there all day long if that happened. I just cannot afford that kind of time!
It might be nice on the way home from work, but, then I would buy something to eat on the way home because it would be too late for me to want to cook. I'm lazy like that. :) Or, I could just eat dessert... Yeah, that would work too. A Dairy Queen Mud Slide...

They haven't made those in years, but, once in a while, you can hit up a DQ that has an elder working in there that remembers how to make them. (by an elder, I mean someone who has worked there more than a minute!) I had one not too long ago and was tickled pink!!! :) She did it from memory!

I'm taking my lunch. Not sure what all, but some chicken salad I bought at the deli with cranberries and pecans. Oh yummy.... I think I have some Dill, Sea Salt & Olive Oil Triscuits to go with them. I am making myself hungry for some now. I also have fresh local strawberries and cantalope.... it's going to be a good day for eating. LOL !

Nice and interactive post, I felt I was there, pushing the cart with you. 🛒Nowadays I shop at local stores, I don’t like the supermarkets any more, unless I need a lot of stuff. I am fortunate to have many little stores around me, especially Asian produce stores, so I can get my fresh stuff within walking distance. I shopped this morning but I didn’t think to take some pics for your challenge. I just took pics of trees and flowers, as usual. Next time I will. 😊

I do NOT love grocery shopping! I usually have a fairly short list, and many, many other things to get on with, and I get deeply annoyed that I can't just run in, grab my five things and get out. I think it's a character flaw, my impatience with shopping. I always feel overstimulated, and the people swarming the aisles don't help! I can't wait until the farmers market opens next month. There's nothing like shopping outside for produce that was picked within twelve hours of purchase, rather than flown halfway around the world! I agree with you about the Honeycrisp! Delicious!
Ha!! I do not blame you! Can we please get someone to do this for us? I try to have a short list, but, actually decide what I am eating and then pick up those ingredients. I try not to keep a bunch of extra food in the house unless I have plans for it. Less waste I have found.
I love the farmer's markets or my own, but, when that is not possible, I buy the organic.
I don't mind the crowds and I am pretty patient with them, it is not a character flaw in you, many people cannot tolerate crowds. They just have never bothered me. I just have never really liked grocery shopping. LOL

Thank you so much! I didn't used to mind crowds, but the longer I live in the country the less patience I have with human chaos. The animal chaos is plenty. I will post some pictures for Market Friday when our farmers market opens in a couple of weeks!

Thank you for dropping the link here! The military commissaries are usually pretty big as they are servicing a lot of people. There are days a scooter would be nice. Although, my farmer's markets are now open and so I will buy from there!

You must have been there early its so quiet in there, I love shopping early before it gets busy, and I always start at the Fresh Fruit and veggies market, whether its busy or not I guess this is one place where I am a creature of habit
The peanut Aisle I can always race by I have never been into it, unless I am shopping witht he kids and grandkids then we have to stop there they go through it

Oh, yes!!! Seriously! I get there so early, I help them open the doors. None of the commissaries are open 24/7 except for perhaps the 7-11 type stores.
I used to start at the produce, but, if you go when they first open, everyone is bogging the section down, crowd overload! So I start at the end where there is nobody and end there. It makes the whole process faster, especially if you have an aversion to it.
I usually go up every aisle and I cannot even tell you why, I don't need much ever! LOL Creature of habit is my guess. I love the almost #MarketFridays best! LOL You know that. They could almost be a market, so by golly! They are! :)
That is my story and I'm sticking to it! Thank you for always making the effort and always succeeding to make the challenge! The weekend is upon us - almost!

Maybe f I helped open the doors like you do I would start at the other end, but most times when I go its early enough o be not to busy and late enough that the initial rush has been and gone :)
I used to do the every aisle thing looking for new things but nowadays I normally go tow or three times a week to have fresh, and just go tot he aisles where i need things
That is exactly right!!! I don't eat the junk I used to and it makes it easier to make a dash in and buy fresh unless it is one of those I need everything kind of shopping weeks.
Yes, it is rare nowadays to help open the doors, but, it does happen and yes! I am a creature of late so the crowds have dispersed. I also am patient, so I am never in a real rush when I am there.
You know... slow down, you move too fast. You gotta make the shopping last ! Ha! Oh, yeah, it's going to be one of those days.
Me to I hate the feeling of rushing so I generally always allow myself much more time thanks ever needed so I can just go as quick or s slow as my mood takes me

Oooooh! i remember @dutchess ! before leaving, she wrote that she had some problems and since then I have not heard anything about her. what a pity! It is really a very cozy shop, nice and clean. you are right: vegetables of ideal condition are needed for salads. but if you bake them or stew them or make sauce, adjika and something like that, then there is no difference how they look, if they are fresh and tasty :))) you made me laugh with your riddle :)))) I thought it was the owner because curious robbers should see who says it :)))) for the robber it would be better if it was the owner :))))) beautiful flowers!!!! wonderful weekend !!!!

Yes!! She has some health issues, but, now she is so much better. She is still riding the waves of Facebook and tried several times to come back. She may find the password somewhere. I hope so. She is really a lot of fun, our Queen of Scent!

I'm on a mission when I'm in the Grocery. At least until I get to the vegetables...
I have an app on my phone, I put EVERY item on my list and buy only that. Until I get to the vegetables.
Our farm stands and farmer's markets are shuttered for the season now. There is still one (organic even) farm that has a year round stand, but it's 15 miles so I don't go often. But in the winter we have two farmer's markets in the near neighborhood. Life is good then.

Oh, yes! A mission is best when at the Grocery Store. The vegetable aisle is always the hardest to go through quickly like that. I want to touch and feel each piece so that there is no disappointments when I get home. It is my fault if I rush and select produce that is not the best.
I would rather have none.
Our farm stands will be open today. We must be opposite seasons. I have an organic one minutes down the road and I am so grateful because I don't have to have a garden because of him. And he has the best!

The floors at that market are so clean and shiny. Wow and so many types of apples! I used to live near a market where the floors were not clean or shiny, now the markets in my area are nothing special. I did share about a Korean market recntly though if you want a peak in the mean time. You can find it here

I am glad that you found the shopping to be fun. :) I am not a huge fan of grocery shopping but, it needs to be done, right?
I usually ask if it is okay to take pictures and it is rare to be turned down, so that makes it easier to snap away. When I take them incognito, it is a little bit conspicuous!
