How Do You Protect Your Coins?

Protect your investment

An important part of your coin collection is protecting your investment or savings.

The value of the coin does not come only from the silver and gold content but also comes from the images that are struck on the coin. Protecting the design of the coins give them a little more value than just the silver and gold content.

In order to protect these amazing pieces, some people use cardboard holders with a plastic window, and some will even put them in slab holders.

Most people put them in Air-Tites.

Air-Tites

Air-Tite coin capsules are PVC free, archival safe, and are made from an acrylic plastic with a non-yellowing agent. This process results in a product that is hard, crystal clear, and smooth to the touch.

One thing to consider is the cost of air-tites. And you got to factor that into your cost when you are buying your gold or silver.

Except for a select type of coins, most coins come in flips. Flips are okay, but if you want to keep them for a long time, you need something sturdier. Like an air-tite. And you can even out then in tubes or some container such as a box.

How I protect my coins

My silver coins that are one-piece-each are in air-tites and in a box. I have some silver that is part of an ongoing collection and these and in air-tites and then kept in coin capsule tubes.

The majority of my silver are in coin tubes without any air-tite, such as the American Siver Eagles and 1/10 oz American Gold Eagles.

It is how and if you are going to protect your coins.

Protecting gold coins

For me (and I have not sold any of my coins yet), I will definitely want to protect my gold coins.

I protect them with air-tites and placed them in coin capsule tubes.

These air-tites are 22 mm with black rings and it is for 1/4 ounce gold coins.

Beside it is my 1/10 ounce Gold I showed recently. It is amazing how 6 mm makes a whole lot of difference in size!

You can get air-tites from just about anywhere.

Protect your investment. Air-tite capsules snap together firmly to form a tight seal securing your coin for long term storage.

My larger gold have the Air-tite capsules complimentary by the Seller, my smaller quarters and tenths are still in the Royal Mint's plastic film. I will be getting some Capsules come my summer vacation or if I have to be in the area of my LCS before than.

Always, with love 🤗 🌺 💖

Gold that is encapsulated is the proof version, like my American Buffalos. Even the gold Sovereign and the Libertads aren't. So you are lucky that the seller gave you a capsule. All the silver and gold of Perth Mint have their own capsules,, but they make it up in price, lol!

Hugs and kisses, sis 🥰🌺🤙!

While you can handle gold without concerns of damaging it, pure .999 gold is soft and scratches easily. Air tites are a must for them. The ASG aren’t as fragile and can be kept in tubes instead of Air tites, but the very few I have are in them anyway. 1/10 get lost easily.

Hehehe... the 1/10 oz gold AGE are not in air-tites becuase I have the tube for it. But it prevents me from playing with them without my gloves on. This time, I got a tube and air-tites for the 1/4 oz.

Wow, these coins are lovely and worth protecting! Now I understand your username better 😄. You are a collector of gold and silver coins.

I don't know much about coins but I understand they are valuable. Every means to protect your investment should be taken. 🙂

I save in silver and gold, thus the name Silver Saver, hehehe 😄!
These coins cost so much, especially the gold ones.

Thank you for checking it out, @kemmyb!

I never really considered that you need to store them with air-tites. I personally would of just tossed them in a tube or box somewhere so it's nice information to know.

You may use a tube or a box, I just like the gold in air-tites!'

Enjoy the weekend, @jfang003!

I like the air tight capsules especially for gold even if it cost a little more, I like to play with my collectible coins sometimes so having them stored individually, I don't have to worry about gloves, body oils and oxygen...whatever else ever. I like to collect different designs rather than get one large tube of one thing. If I do then I just leave them in the tube un-opened. Not a fan of the cheap cardboard holders thingy unless it's for old coinage that already has some wear, they can still get beat up in storage. I never sold any so I don't know if it makes a difference on the resale market, I tend to prefer like new looking coins.

Yeah! Keep them in capsules and you are sure they'd be looking brand new!
I haven't sold a single piece either, and I don't see selling anytime soon, lol!

Neither do I. My LCS was looking for sellers and offering $4 over spot for silver cause he has a hard time to find stock but still want to save it for retirement days. Some of these coins gain good collectible value over time especially the gold ones.

My favorite @stokjockey!

Air-tites are definitely the thing, especially for those special pieces that you want nothing to happen to or to be physically touched. No better protection, indeed!

I don't have much to spare, and a purchase for me is unrepeatable.
Indeed!

Hugs and Kisses 🥰🌺🤙!!!!

😎👍💕🤗😘🌸

That's the best way to protect your coins, both in an air-tite and a tube @silversaver888. We all value our investments, and we need to take care of them for the future😍😍😀

I don't understand how others put so much money into their coins and toss them around, @silvertop 😀

So very true @silversaver888, and as they age and tarnish they show it my friend😍😍😀

I'm at the beginning, you know. So my silver coins are in the capsules and I want to make case for it. And of course, all are locked in the safe, like guns and other stuff I want to make safe ;)

Good for you!
I do the same for mine!
Thanks for sharing that, @tazi!
