Who are Beat Funktion? The Swedish band is made up of the following members:
Karl Olandersson - trumpet, Olle Thunström - tenor sax, Johan Öijen - guitar, Daniel Lantz - keyboards, Pal Johnson - bass, Jon Eriksson - drums and Ola Bothzén - percussion.
What style of music do they represent? Jazz-funk!

Beat Funktion, who in the meantime have also enjoyed going into the studio with guests, strings and choirs, return to exactly what the title says with the album “Roots”. Recorded live in the studio with only their own instruments. It was worth it all the way.
Beat Funktion, die sich zwischenzeitlich auch mal gerne mit Gästen, Streichern und Chören ins Studio begeben haben, kehren mit dem Album „Roots” wieder genau dorthin zurück, wie es der Titel bereits besagt. Live im Studio eingespielt und ausschließlich die eigenen Instrumente einsetzend. Es hat sich rundum gelohnt.
Six of the seven albums released by the band have made it to the international charts. In 2014, the album “Voodoolan” established itself as the most played jazz album in the USA. Whether in Canada or Japan, Beat Funktion was always at the top.
Der Band gelang es, mit sechs von sieben veröffentlichten Alben in den internationalen Charts Einzug zu halten. 2014 etablierte sich das Album “Voodoolan“ als meistgespieltes Jazz-Album in den USA. Ob in Kanada oder in Japan, Beat Funktion war immer ganz vorn vertreten.
The fourth album, "Mandy's Secret", produced by Mats Björke (responsible for the recordings of rock band Mando Diao), saw a change in musical direction, with guest musicians from all over the world. Sani Gamedze, Rebecca Laasko and Damon Elliot. The album was a smash hit (also in terms of sales). As strange as it may sound, it was this album that won them the award for best newcomer band.
Mit dem vierten Album „Mandy`s Secret“, das von Mats Björke (verantwortlich für die Aufnahmen der Rockband Mando Diao) produziert wurde, kam es zur musikalischen Richtungsänderung, indem Gastmusiker aus allen Teilen der Welt eingebunden wurden. Sani Gamedze, Rebecca Laasko und Damon Elliot. Das Album übertraf (auch was die Verkaufszahlen betraf) alle Rekorde. So komisch es auch klingen mag, wurden sie mit diesem Album zur besten Newcomer-Band gekürt.
With their sixth album, “Green Man”, they have remained true to their recipe for success and have once again relied on well-known guest musicians. Such as: Viktoria Tolstoy, Jasmine Kara, Cleas Janson, Matilde Grattel, Adée and Alicia Olatuja. But the really exciting part, the instrumental tracks, unfortunately found no place on the album.
So now the big cut. No guests and only the instruments.
Mit dem sechsten Album “Green Man” blieb man dem Erfolgsrezept treu und setzte erneut auf bekannte Gastmusiker. Als da wären: Viktoria Tolstoy, Jasmine Kara, Cleas Janson, Matilde Grattel, Adée oder Alicia Olatuja. Aber das wirklich Spannende, die instrumental eingespielten Titel, die fanden leider keinen Platz auf dem Album.

Ist übrigens ein echt spezielles Stück... ist Dir auch aufgefallen, das die im Refrain einen Beat "verschleppen"? Ich dachte erst, das Video hat eine Macke, aber das ist wirklich so gewollt. Na ja, Jazzer dürfen sowas... :)
Jazzer genießen in meinem Umfeld eine Art Narrenfreiheit. Wenn sie mir allerdings die Nackenhaare in die Höhe treiben oder den Funken der Langeweile zünden, dann ist Schluss mit lustig. Wenn ich es unbedingt anstrengend haben möchte, besuche ich unseren Ortsvorsteher oder versuche es mit der Hotline meines Telefonanbieters. Ein nervender Jazzer in der Gemengelage, wäre des Guten entschieden zu viel.😯😮😛
Ist ja immer noch ganz funky, das Stück, noch nicht im "nervig" Bereich. Ohne den Aussetzer wäre es ein ganz normales Funk-Jazz Stück, gut gemacht aber unauffällig. So aber denkt man darüber nach.
Es gibt halt ein paar Sachen in der Musik die man am besten nicht anrührt, oder wenn doch nur wenn man genau weis was man tut. Eins davon ist so eine Verzögerung einbauen. Oder ein Tempowechsel.
Wir hatten ja letztens mal die Diskussion hier, was in der Musik geht und was nicht, im Bezug auf moderne Klassik. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Kunstformen, wie Malerei, Bildhauerei oder Schriftstellerei, kann man in der Musik nicht einfach irgendwas machen. Da gibt es ganz feste Regeln, die auf Mathematik beruhen. Wenn man die ignoriert hört es sich einfach ätzend an. Das mag sich jemand schön labern, aber in Wirklichkeit ist es nur nervig.
Überall dort, wo es klarer Strukturen (bei aller erlaubten Individualität) bedarf, leistet wahrlich die Mathematik beste Dienste. Nicht nur in der Komposition, sondern auch in der Lyrik. Ohne das Versmaß zu verstehen, wird da nie was draus! 😉
Schon wahr, auch in Lyrik und Malerei gibt es Regeln, zT. auch auf Mathematik beruhend. Ich meine nur, es ist viel nerviger wenn in der Musik gegen die Regeln verstoßen wird. Du kannst ein Bild malen, das nur rumgekleckse ist mit Farben die sich beißen. Trotzdem kann man sich das ansehen ohne Bluthochdruck zu kriegen. Bei Musik ist das anders.... siehe, bzw. höre mal dieses Experiment, das ich vor Jahren produziert habe. Aber auf eigene Gefahr. :)

Ich hab aber noch härtere - wenn auch nicht so wie das in dem Video:
Mit dem Titel ausgestattet, selbst auf dem Land lebend und im „Kommen und Gehen“ von sogenanntem Nutzvieh durchaus mit Erfahrung ausgestattet, darf ich dir versichern, das Werk vom ersten bis zum letzten Takt mit Bebilderung im Hinterkopf genossen zu haben.
In den letzten Momenten im Leben einer Kuh geht es nun mal nicht sonderlich harmonisch zu.
Wer einen solchen Prozess live und in Farbe miterlebt, der tut es auf eigene Gefahr.
Dein Schlachthof kann dagegen (ohne auf das Grauen vorbereitet zu sein) betreten werden.
Pleasant, rhythmic and melodic. It seems that radios like the one in the first video were standard everywhere. We had one of these at home too :)
Matilda Gratte's vocals are excellent. The organ reminds me of Joe Zawinul.
