Born in Montreal in 1984, Dominique Fils-Aimé nevertheless carries the genes of those who came before her, all of whom struggled to survive in Haiti. This extraordinary artist has tried to document this history, her own past, with her first albums. In this way, she slides from the blues, paired with a little Hip-Hop in the R&B, with a strong addition of Jazz.
Dominique Fils-Aimé, zwar 1984 in Montreal geboren, trägt gleichwohl die Gene ihrer Vorfahren in sich, die allesamt auf Haiti ihr Überleben zu meistern versuchten. Diese Geschichte, also ihre eigene Vergangenheit, versuchte diese außergewöhnliche Künstlerin mit ihren ersten Alben zu dokumentieren. So schlittert sie vom Blues, gepaart mit etwas Hip-Hop in R&B, mit einer kräftigen Beigabe Jazz.
Basically, nothing seems to have changed with the new album "Our Roots Run Deep" if the focus is on the lyrics. But if you include everything that turns notes and lyrics into a musical experience, the listener realizes that Dominique Fils-Aimés has turned far more toward jazz than ever before in her still young career.
Grundlegend scheint sich daran, wenn das Augenmerk auf die Lyrik gerichtet wird, mit dem neuen Album »Our Roots Run Deep« nicht geändert zu haben. Aber bezieht man all das ein, was aus Noten und Text ein musikalisches Erlebnis werden lässt, dann bemerkt der Zuhörer, dass Dominique Fils-Aimés sich weit mehr dem Jazz zugewandt als je zuvor in ihrer noch so jungen Karriere.
Fears and traumas from early youth seem to be difficult to overcome for this artist. It seems as if it was made for such a subject - the wonderfully soft and nuanced voice of Dominique Fils-Aimés. Which, by the way, first came to the attention of a wider public in the context of a casting show.
Ängste und Traumata aus frühester Jugend scheint diese Künstlerin nur schwer überwinden zu können. Wie für eine solche Thematik geradezu geschaffen – die wunderbar weiche und nuancenreiche Stimme von Dominique Fils-Aimés. Die übrigens erstmals im Rahmen einer Castingshow einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit erste Aufmerksamkeit widerfuhr.
Despite the fact that she was not the winner of this media talent show, Pierre Lapointe helped her to get a record deal. This was followed by her first album "The Red (EP)" in 2015 and performances at "Montréal en Lumière", Montreux Jazz Festival in Tokyo, "MUTEK Festival" (in collaboration with Ohm Hourani) and "MUZ" & "Mundial" in 2017.

Trained as a classical pianist, the rhythms of Afro-American music, of soul and of jazz determined the daily life of Dominique Fils-Aimé in the home of her parents. Then, in 2011, she stood on a musical stage for the first time with the band "Tuff Love Groovy Therapy". Then she joined the quintet "Key Of Groove". This was followed by the next album "Nameless", which is characterized by the interpretation of the text of Maya Angelous "The Hope and the Dream of Slave".
