Splinterlands | River Nymph Challenge

in Splinterlandslast year

Another fun and educative Share Your Battle Challenge for Splinterlands again this week where the Rare Water River Nymph Card was Highlighted...

This for sure is an interesting card that I have had at level 4 for a long time in my collection, yet I never had the urge to actually use or fit it into one of my decks. This challenge for sure was an opportunity to actually try it out. With a cost of 4 Mana for 4 Health, 1 Magic Damage and 3 speed, the card fully needs to have it from its abilities. The fact that it has Magic damage also makes it better suited for Wild Leagues as it can benefit from the +1 magic attack that comes from Arlic StormBringer. The Cleanse ability usually gets more useful the higher the level cards you play against as these have way more abilities on them that potentially can be cleansed. It also should be suited for game rules where all monsters get poisoned but I would argue that the 2 mana Kelp Initiat is better for that as it has higher speed and much more health? The River Nymph in those matches just won't stay alive long enough. The Amplify ability also has limited use I would say in most cases even though it can be put to work with a Lord Arianthus. I guess the most effective way to use it is with the Kraken avoiding that to get hit with Affliction or Stun. The problem there, however, is wether you are able to actually do enough damage yourself given that 4 out if the 6 cards are designed to heal and cleanse the main tank leaving only 2 to do damage.

Overall I would that say this card needs more in order to actually be used in gold league or lower. a 3 mana cost would be more suited which likely won't even make that much of a difference. It having 1 Health more so it has more survivability probably is what is missing to really make this into a card that can be used more often.

I did try this card in multiple battles where it somewhat could be if into a suiting deck for the game rules. Having game rules where all monsters got the return fire ability kind of made it stronger but not really as generally you just don't play Ranged monsters in that situation. The Kraken remains an absolute powerhouse in Wild Mode as the go-to tank in 1st place, I followed that up by 3 magic attack monsters that all got a +1 from the Arlic Stormbringer Summoner, The really powerful Djinn Oshanus and the Rule Of The Seas which are both cards that my opponent also played. And the River Nymph inbetween which in this case was actually better than the Venari Wavesmith. I did play the double leag + repair combo Crustean King & Merdaail Guardian in the backline.

It turned out in a clean sweep voctory where the Kraken and the Main tank combined with the cleanse of the River Nymph showed to be a crucial part. I for sure grew some love for this card thanks to this challenge and now feel I have some extra knowledge on the game that in very rare occasions will come in handy to put to the use. That being said, I don't see this card as a must have or something that I will play very often.
