A prime example of the attempt to define neo-classical music is Hania Rani (Hanna Raniszewska). Born in Gdansk on 5th September 1980, the pianist, composer, and arranger demonstrates in her work how classical music can be enjoyed while still providing a thrilling experience with the infusion of modern influences.
Hania Rani (Hanna Raniszewska) ist wohl ein liebend gerne hergenommenes und damit klassisches Beispiel für den Versuch einer Erklärung, was eigentlich Neoklassik in der Musik bedeutet. Die am 5. September 1980 in Danzig geborene Pianistin, Komponistin und Arrangeurin zeigt mit ihrer Arbeit, wie die Klassik wertgeschätzt werden kann, aber auch mit den Einflüssen neuzeitlicher Strömungen noch immer spannend bleibt.
Whatever the Gondwana Records team were thinking in 2018 when they signed a young pianist and gave her a lot of artistic freedom for her debut album, they made all the right decisions. The album "Esja" is scheduled for release in 2019. It is a compilation of solo piano pieces, taking inspiration from jazz improvisation to elevate classical music to new heights. The outcome has secured the awards for best debut, the best alternative album, and best new arrangement.

Despite the triumph of her debut album, Hania Rani went on to completely revolutionise the concept with her sophomore release "Home", released in 2020. She adeptly integrates vocals, electronics and live instrumentation like bass (Ziemowit Klimek) and drums (Wojtek Warmijak) in her pieces. The accolades came flooding in – she was named the best female composer and her album was deemed the must-have of the year.

What is the first impression?
This album is a prime example of neoclassical music at its best. A piano, tuned classically, joyfully interacts with modernity. This album is not a farewell to classical music, but rather a warm embrace of jazz. It is unafraid to draw inspiration from the great role models. Be it Chopin, Bach, Stravinsky, or Beethoven: None of them was a stranger to improvisation.

Bei der Entscheidung (beim Blick auf meine Warteliste), wer in dieser Woche die Bühne betreten sollte, gesellte sich das Gefühl an meine Seite, dass diese Art der musikalischen Verarbeitung deine Ohren nicht vor eine weitere Belastungsprobe stellen wird.
