The story of how Les Yeux D'La Tête came about:
As is so often the case when chance takes over the direction of everyday life, there are encounters between people who have previously been drifting through their lives on completely different paths. The meeting between Benoît Savard and Guillaume Jousselin in a world-famous school in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, Pigalle, where they worked together on a musical project (ATLA), remains an example for me today.

Wie meist, wenn der Zufall die Regie im Alltag übernimmt, kommt es zu Begegnungen von Menschen, die zuvor auf gänzlich unterschiedlichen Bahnen durch ihr Leben drifteten. Als hörbares Beispiel dient mir heute das Zusammentreffen zwischen Benoît Savard und Guillaume Jousselin an einer Schule im 9. Pariser Arrondissement mit dem weltbekannten Namen - Pigalle, an der sie gemeinsam an einem Musikprojekt (ATLA) arbeiteten.
Benoît, who until then had been under the musical spell of brass band music with a strong influence of Balkan and gypsy rhythms, met Guillaume, who seemed to be looking for his salvation in rock 'n' roll. All this happened in 2006, and despite their (seemingly) different paths, they decided to form a quartet with two other musicians and test their new compositions on the streets of Montmartre.
Benoît, bis dahin musikalisch ganz im Bann der Blasmusik, mit einem starken Einfluss vom Balkan und den Gypsy-Rhythmen, traf auf Guillaume, der sein Heil im Rock ‘n’ Roll zu suchen schien. All das passierte übrigens 2006. Obwohl (mit dem oberflächlichen Blick) so unterschiedlich unterwegs, beschlossen die beiden, mit noch zwei Musikern, ein Quartett zu gründen und auf den Straßen rund um den Montmartre die neuen Kompositionen hatnah am Publikum zu testen.
It appears that this went so well that in 2008 they decided to go into the studio to record their first album under the name of 'Les Yeux D'La Tête'. It was called 'Danser sur les toits' (Dancing on the roofs). It was produced entirely by themselves, from the first chord to the last. In the band's own words, they wanted to be in control at all costs and avoid record company bosses getting between the band and the audience.
Offenbar lief das so gut, dass man sich 2008 dazu entschloss, unter dem Namen 'Les Yeux D'La Tête', im Studio die erste Platte aufzunehmen. Das Werk trug den Titel ‘Danser sur les toits’ (Tanzen auf den Dächern) und wurde vom ersten bis zum letzten Akkord selbst produziert. Wie das Ensemble selbst sagt, wollten sie damit unbedingt die Kontrolle behalten und vermeiden, dass sich überhaupt Plattenbosse zwischen die Band und das Publikum zu drängen versuchen.
As is not uncommon, the boys from Les Yeux D'La Tête first had to come to terms with the fact that the album was not particularly well reviewed by critics, but the Parisian city newspapers were full of praise for the street musicians. All the more reason to increase the number of musicians. The basic formation is still composed as follows: Benoît Savard (vocals & guitar), Guillaume Jousselin (guitar), Eddy Lopez (saxophone), Émilien Pottier (bass), Xavier Hamon (drums), Rodrigue Fernandes (accordion).
Wie es nicht selten vorkommt, mussten die Jungs von Les Yeux D'La Tête erst einmal damit zurechtkommen, dass das Album von der Kritik zwar nicht sonderlich gut rezensiert wurde, andererseits die Pariser Stadtzeitungen voll des Lobes über die Straßenmusiker waren. Ein Grund mehr, die Anzahl der Musiker aufzustocken. Die Grundformation setzt sich bis heute so zusammen: Benoît Savard (Gesang & Gitarre), Guillaume Jousselin (Gitarre), Eddy Lopez (Saxofon), Émilien Pottier (Bass), Xavier Hamon (Schlagzeug), Rodrigue Fernandes (Akkordeon).
Have you ever heard of a booking agency called the Patchanka Booking Agency? Probably not. But these are the kind of idealists who are always on the look-out for new talent and who want to bring it to a wider audience. This agency has already helped bands such as Syrano, Karpatt, Les Ogres de Barback and Mass Hysteria to perform outside France.
As soon as they arrived on German stages, the tide turned and the Paris-based band was suddenly talked about.
Hat jemand jemals von der Patchanka Booking Agency gehört? Wahrscheinlich nicht. Aber das sind genau diese Idealisten, die ständig auf der Suche nach neuen Talenten sind, um sie einem größeren Publikum näherzubringen. Diese Agentur hatte im Vorfeld bereits Bands wie Syrano, Karpatt, Les Ogres de Barback und Mass Hysteria außerhalb Frankreichs zu Auftritten verholfen.
Kaum auf deutschen Bühnen angekommen, wendete sich das Blatt und die Band aus Paris war plötzlich in aller Munde.
In 2012 the second album "Madones" was published. From that year until 2015, the line-up of the band underwent a major change. Despite this, Benoît and Guillaume continued to write new songs, convinced that Les Yeux D'La Tête were just about to take off.
And their success would prove them right. The albums followed: I don't speak English (2014), Liberté Chérie (2016), Murcielago (2019) and Bonne nouvelle (2021).

2012 erscheint mit ‘Madones’ das zweite Album. Von diesem Jahr bis 2015 wird auch personell die Formation kräftig umgestaltet. Gleichwohl komponierten Benoît und Guillaume weiter neue Songs, weil sie sich ganz sicher waren, dass es mit Les Yeux D'La Tête jetzt erst so richtig losgeht.
Und der Erfolg sollte ihnen recht geben. Denn im Anschluss folgten die Alben: I don't speak English (2014), Liberté Chérie (2016), Murcielago (2019) und Bonne nouvelle (2021).

The rest is perfect European urban classics.
